We'd like to thank Detroit's own charming rock duo Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. for lifting our spirits this morning. It's not just their infinitely likable Ep "Patterns" that's got us in a good mood, but a new remix and video for one of their singles that appeals to the nostalgic nerd in all of us.
"If You Didn't See Me (Then You Weren't On The Dancefloor)" was already getting heavy play on our stereo (well, our Spotify playlists), but an alternate version translates it into 8-bit video game music -- you know, like the soundtrack to a super old Nintendo game with graphics that now seem more Stone Age than '80s. According to Gizmodo, the band used a simple plugin to turn the original song into the Midi version.
But there's more to the music than meets the ear, explained Daniel Zott, one half of the band.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.'s "We Almost Lost Detroit" is already an unofficial city anthem heard in bars all over town. Now, the band takes the song to the city's streets in a new music video released Tuesday.
"We Almost Lost Detroit" comes from Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.'s full-length debut, It's a Corporate World, released last year. A cover of a song by the late Gil Scott-Heron, the Detroit duo's version brings up the energy with an infectious hook.
While the Jr. Jr.s, Daniel Zott and Joshua Epstein, seem to be on their way up in the music world, signing with Warner Bros. and recently playing on "Conan," the two are all about their hometown. In a blog post introducing the new video, the Zott and Epstein talk about the personal impact Gil Scott-Heron's song has had on them and what it means for Detroit:

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. first broke onto the scene at SXSW in 2011, where they did about eight shows -- the festival serving as a sort of mini, trial tour for those on the cusp of being discovered. This year, the band is eyeing about half as many shows, which they kicked off with a private party Saturday night, hosted by Tito's Vodka. The band, made up of Daniel Zott and Joshua Epstein (not earnestly named race car driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and by extension, Dale Earnhardt Sr.) is known for their radio-friendly song "Simple Girl," but their sound is more rock-heavy than their single would let on. Zott, the band's lead vocalist, took a few minutes aside while packing up equipment to chat with HuffPost about their rock-meets-dance sound, how things have changed since SXSW last year and their signature, neon checkered race-car sports coats.

Detroit's Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr, aka Josh Epstein and Daniel Zott, went to a remote village in Iceland, and after touring the environs in cozy sweaters shot this video in nostalgic hues within the community church. An hour outside of Reykjavík, the village of Sólheimar was founded by a woman in 1930, to be a self-sustainable community. Perhaps the most brilliant aspect of this place, and it's eco-buildings nestled harmoniously with the natural landscape, is that people of all backgrounds, including the "so-called able and disabled," are given an opportunity to thrive there, together.
They make what they need within the village at six workshops including a candle maker, potter, weaver, and an herbal workshop that makes all their soaps, and shampoos. Take a gander at this incredible village, through the lens of director Claire Marie Vogel, it's immense wood chimes, and it's people amid their organic greenhouses, cafes, and craft...

For a duo whose electronic indie-pop is as unassuming as the genre often portends, Daniel Zott and Josh Epstein of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. have definitely given themselves a head start by deciding on clever presentation. In line with their moniker, Zott and Epstein often arrive onstage zipped up in Nascar apparel, a sartorial choice that could be read as a comment on blog-era personal branding. But It’s A Corporate World, the duo’s debut full-length, is far less subversive or colorful than its title and accompanying wave of online hoopla might suggest. Instead, the Detroit-based outfit has pieced ...

A year ago, MTV News production assistants Rya Backer and Steven Roberts realized that their devotion to chasing stories was seriously getting in the way of their love lives. That's why they dreamed up "First Date," a regular feature that allows them to get up close and personal to some of our favorite hot new artists.
Hello, again! The last time you all saw me, I was being wooed by Lil B the Based God at Joe's Shanghai. And while that was a magical (or rather, #rare) time, I realized I had to move on. So when I found out that one of my favorite acts from last year's Cmj, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. would be in town, I knew we'd have to go out classy.
Josh Epstein and Daniel Zott are two very sweet, very married men who are the main forces behind the Detroit act.
