Dolly Parton has revealed her reimagined rendition of Tom Petty’s song “Southern Accents” for the forthcoming compilation, Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty.
The song features a prologue delivered by the late Tom Petty himself describing how the moment of inspiration that led to “Southern Accents.” Dolly Parton then provides an emotional, stirring rendition of the song, kept at the same balladeer tempo as Petty’s original. She retains much of the song, though she adds a crucial change to the song’s latter third when belting “Yes I’m proud to be what I am/ A southern girl from a southern town/ I ain’t ashamed, I ain’t ashamed, I ain’t ashamed.”

There’s a lyric in “The Overthrow” on Will Hoge’s new album Tiny Little Movies in which the unwavering singer-songwriter spits out a perfect pop-culture description of our clown-painted, misogynistic Dear Leader: he’s “Darth Vader with a spray tan/and a girly magazine.”
“That one’s not getting played on country radio,” Hoge deadpans.

Brothers Osborne, Maren Morris, Miranda Lambert and the Zac Brown Band are tied for the most nominations each, three, for this year’s Cmt Music Awards, set to air live on the country music network June 5.
The list of artists with two nods in the network’s eight categories is an exceptionally long one: Brandi Carlile, Carrie Underwood, Cole Swindell, Dan + Shay, Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Julia Michaels, Kacey Musgraves, Kane Brown, Keith Urban, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town, Luke Bryan, Luke Combs, Sugarland and Taylor Swift.
The number of non-country artists up for CMTs is plentiful — starting with Swift, who self-deported from the genre some years back, but is up for collaborative video of the year and duo of the year for appearing with Sugarland in “Babe,” which she wrote and gave to the Nashville duo to record before making her video cameo.

It comes with little surprise that last night's (November 5) broadcast of the 48th Annual Cma Awards was packed full of hilarious antics and amazing performances. In addition, plenty of excited winners celebrated together inside Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.
Hosted by dynamic duo Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, the night went off without a hitch as the pair joked about former country babe Taylor Swift, the Ebola panic and the gender of Carrie's bun in the oven (she's having a boy!).
As for the lucky victors, Luke Bryan scored Entertainer of the year, while husband and wife Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton took home Female and Male vocalists of the year, respectively. Kacey Musgraves didn't go home empty handed either! She scored Song of the Year for her tune "Follow Your Arrow," which is a big upgrade from her newbie status just last year!

Thankfully, Luke did not fall off stage on Saturday night.
Los Angeles broke out its cowboy hats and boots on Saturday night, descending on the Hollywood Bowl for Luke Bryan's latest sold-out stop on his That's My Kinda Night tour.
Donning a tight black tee and his signature booty-hugging jeans, Luke shook his way through hit after hit, including "Do I," "Country Girl (Shake it For Me)," "Crash My Party," "Roller Coaster" and his Florida Georgia Line collab "This Is How We Roll," joined onstage by the song's co-writer Cole Swindell.

The American Music Awards -- one of the biggest fan-voted music awards shows -- has revealed its 2014 ballot. Iggy Azalea, John Legend, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams lead the nominations, with the Aussie rapper picking six nods and the latter three sweeping up five. The Artist of the Year category -- predictably -- is the most cut-throat as it expands from five to 10 competing artists that include best-sellers like Azalea, Beyonce, Eminem and One Direction. Dick Clark Productions, who will stage the three-hour show on Nov. 23 show on ABC, announced the first of the performers, too: Charli Xcx is slated to play the show for the very first time. The nominees are determined by a number of factors, culled from data via Billboard, Nielsen SoundScan and Next Big Sound, like number of sales, radio plays, streams and socials. Votes are tallied from the AMAs site and through Twitter; read more...
