With each new month comes a strong desire to let go of some things in order to make room for what is new. And it seems that even the biggest streaming platforms feel the same way.
That's why they update their libraries every month. There are a lot of different movies leaving Netflix in May, but these 5 are a must watch (or rewatch) if you are a fan of quality cinema.
1. Uncut Gems (2019) – May 9
Many of you may not think much of Adam Sandler, at least that's what a lot of people say out loud, even though there's a good chance they fall asleep watching Sandler's best rom-coms. But every once in a while he stars in a movie that ends up proving how brilliant of an actor he really is.
Uncut Gems has a 91% on Tomatometer and features the actor in a serious role, portraying a man named Howard Ratner.

Nearly a year ago, Dreamworks Animation released Puss In Boots: The Last Wish. The sequel to the somewhat successful mostly forgotten movie Puss In Boots. ‘Puss In Boots: The Last Wish’, also known as just Puss In Boots 2, follows Puss as he reaches the last of his nine lives. When gaining knowledge about a wishing star, he goes on an ambitious quest to find the star and wish for more lives. Encountering friends and foes along the way.
Upon its release, existing as a sequel to a spinoff of a popular franchise, the public’s expectations of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish weren’t high at all. When the film was released in America on the eleventh of December, 2022 (then elsewhere in other countries and territories), it surprisingly came with positive reviews. Surprising audiences away with its rich storytelling, great characters, and quite shockingly dark moments, Puss In Boots...

The swashbuckling cat with the silky voice of Antonio Banderas was so beloved by fans of Shrek 2 and its sequels that he got his own spin-off film, a franchise that also now continues to expand with this year’s Puss In Boots: The Last Wish. This first instalment is an origin story that's every bit as enjoyable as Shrek was - a rip-roaring adventure that includes all round bad egg Humpty Dumpty (voiced by Zach Galifianakis), cat burglar Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek) and a magic beans quest. Packed with visual humour and cat-inflected comedy, with the double-act between Humpty and Puss a real family treat.
Baby Done, 10.45pm, BBC3, Monday, August 28
If you're in the mood for something light and frothy then this New Zealand romcom is well worth a watch. Its likeable, realistic characters go a long way to making.

Just two years ago, it seemed like the summer blockbuster might be a thing of the past. After Covid kept cinemas closed across the United States for the majority of 2020, the box office reopened in 2021 on uncertain footing, with many high profile flops and a soft performance for the movies overall. That summer seemed like the harbinger of the end for the seasonal release strategy that “Jaws” perfected all the way back in 1975, wherein the hottest months hosts the biggest titles — marketed aggressively to theatergoers. It seemed like those days were behind us, and the streaming age had finally overtaken the days when movies could be events. So thank goodness for “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.”
Things aren’t entirely rosy at cinemas again (and Hollywood writ large is a mess), but things are improving at the box office with those July 21 releases helping to massively goose theatrical business, picking up where...

Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for adventure has taken its toll when he learns that he has burnt through eight of his nine lives. Puss sets out on an epic journey to find the mythical Last Wish and restore his nine lives.
The first Puss in Boots movie is one that I deeply enjoyed, which is something that I’m in the vast minority of. The decade-spanning Shrek franchise is quite possibly my favourite kids/family franchise of all time. Each movie in the series (except for the colossally disappointing Shrek the Third) holds a place near and dear to my heart.
So many kid’s movies get a bad reputation for being, well, only for kids. But, the Shrek movies prove that animated movies can be hugely enjoyable for adults too.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament took a hiatus during the pandemic as movie theaters closed for the majority of 2020-2021 and theatrical day-and-date titles on both the big screen and studios’ respective streaming platforms became more prevalent. Coming back from that brink, the studios have largely returned to their theatrical release models and the downstream monies they can bring. Not to mention their power in launching IPs around the world with big global marketing campaigns. When it comes to evaluating the financial performance of top movies, it isn’t about what a film grosses at the box office. The true tale is told when production budgets, P&a, talent participations and other costs collide with box office grosses, and ancillary revenues from VOD to DVD and TV. To get close to that mysterious end of the equation, Deadline is repeating our Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament for 2022, using data culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Thanks to "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" and its remarkable box office run, the "Shrek"-verse is suddenly looking more alive than it has in more than a decade. Rest assured, this hasn't gone unnoticed by DreamWorks Animation, which is already well into development on "Shrek 5" -- a project we've been hearing rumblings about since at least 2017, back when the sequel's then-writer Michael McMullers ("The Boss Baby") referred to it as a "pretty big reinvention" of what's come before.
During an interview with Variety, Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri -- who's also a creative partner at DreamWorks Animation -- confirmed the intention is to bring back Mike Myers as the voice of the titular lovable, smelly ogre for the as-yet-untitled new "Shrek" movie, along with his co-stars Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy as Fiona and Donkey, respectively. Now that Chris Meledandri has taken a cruise down Rainbow Road, his next stop is Far, Far Away. The Super Mario Bros. producer and Illumination CEO is eyeing Shrek 5 with original cast members Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy, as he explained in a recent interview with Variety.
“We anticipate the cast coming back,” Meledandri said of the proper follow-up to 2010’s Shrek Forever After. “Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return.”
A fifth Shrek film has been in the works since at least 2016, when DreamWorks parent company NBCUniversal first announced they were aiming for a 2019 release date. Despite years in delay, the success of the 2022 spinoff Puss in Boots: The Last Wish proves the fairytale franchise is still quite lucrative. And although no deals have been inket yet, Meledandri seems optimistic about a cast reunion.

When “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” opened in theaters last December, the spinoff sequel in the “Shrek” universe began its box office run with an unremarkable $12 million. But the animated adventure, about a swashbuckling cat voiced by Antonio Banderas, has enjoyed nine lives on the big screen.
After nearly two months, ticket sales have climbed to $177 million in North America and $454 million globally — and counting. That’s an impressive haul, particularly given the commercial struggles of other recent animated fare such as “Lightyear” and “Strange World.”
“It is certainly rare to see a film leg out to a 15 lifetime multiple from its three-day debut,” says Universal’s president of domestic distribution Jim Orr. “The film is exciting, heartwarming and immensely satisfying for a broad audience.”
Much of “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’s” slow-and-steady box office success is attributed to positive reviews, enthusiastic word-of-mouth and minimal competition from family films.

When “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” director Joel Crawford was 5 years old, a wall fell on him.
He describes himself as a “hyper kid” and, at the time of the accident, he was scaling a crumbly outdoor cinderblock wall at his grandmother’s house. When it toppled over, he landed far enough back that he wasn’t seriously injured, although two of his toes had to be partially amputated. Crawford, a young boy so full of energy that he tried to climb a wall and was nearly crushed, was forced to spend time in a hospital bed. His grandmother brought him a ream of old copy paper and Crawford started drawing.
One day Crawford’s mom left to get lunch. When she came back, the nurses and doctors were huddled around Crawford’s bed. His mom was panic-stricken – did something happen? Had he gotten worse? But no. The medical staff was watching Crawford draw.

"Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" is one of the most inexplicable movies in recent memory. It's a sequel to a much-maligned movie that came out over a decade ago. It's subtitled "The Last Wish" and billed as the end of an era despite only being the second movie to star Antonio Banderas' swashbuckling kitty. Its star-studded cast includes the likes of not only Banderas, but also Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, John Mulaney, Harvey Guillén, and Salma Hayek Pinault.
The movie has also gained a tremendous amount of acclaim since its release in theaters in December, picking up an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film and earning glowing reviews, including one for IGN in which /Film writer Rafael Motamayor compared it favorably to The X-Men franchise high point "Logan," a comparison that caught on in a big way throughout the movie's theatrical run. /Film's own review, from Josh Spiegel,...

We have a very eclectic mix of Blu-rays for you in this latest Blu-ray column. In fact, I can't remember a time when I've rounded up such an odd assortment of films. Not only do we have the new 4K release of "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre," but we also have the animated "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish," the beautiful drama "The Remains of the Day," and Dario Argento's "Phenomena" just to cap things off. Like I said: eclectic.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 4K
Often copied, never duplicated, there will never be anything like "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" again. Even after all these years, Tobe Hooper's tale of some travelers who run afoul of a cannibal family is terrifying. Why? Because it feels like something we shouldn't be seeing. When director Joel Crawford considered including a realistic panic attack in “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” he knew it would be an important moment for kids and adults alike.
“We know so many people who struggle with anxiety or we struggle with it and have panic attacks ourselves,” Crawford says. “Children can handle these scenes, maybe sometimes better than adults, and it can help everyone to feel seen if we create a scene that feels like it’s drawn from something that really happens.”
In the scene, Puss is overwhelmed by fear as he considers that he’s used up eight of his nine lives. Though the character’s signature state of mind is that of a daring, playful and extroverted cat, this new film takes him in a more vulnerable direction.

Since Puss in Boots’ first appearance in Shrek 2 in 2004, Antonio Banderas has been voicing the fairy tale character and growing alongside him. A sequel to the 2011 Puss in Boots film, DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish takes place after Shrek Forever After, when Puss in Boots (Banderas) is accidentally killed by a bell and discovers he is down to his ninth, and final, life. After a brush with a mysterious wolf who is determined to take his last life, Puss decides to live the rest of his life in hiding. However, he soon learns about a wishing star that could help them get his lives back. Banderas was excited to take Puss in a different direction for this film, taking him from a sidekick character to something more vulnerable and “human.”

There are defining roles that come along once or maybe twice a lifetime, and I have to say that voicing the glorious gato Puss in Boots for almost two decades has made a huge impact in my life. Of course, when I was first asked to play this beautifully imagined and animated character, I had no idea that it would have such a phenomenal global appeal and lasting power.
Coming back to voice the memorable hero for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has been a remarkable experience. I felt like I was visiting a very dear, clever friend that I hadn’t heard from in a few years. We both have grayer whiskers and are no longer the brash, young players we used to be. But we’re now wiser and more introspective — or at least I hope so!

For helmer Joel Crawford, the story told in “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” needed something new and distinct from what had been done in DreamWorks Animation’s “Puss in Boots” film, released in 2011. It had been more than a decade since the first film delighted audiences with the story of a cat who was often too big for his boots. Puss, who was walking onto the screen this time would be humbled, even frightened, by coming down to the last of his precious nine lives. ¶ Crawford and his team decided to lean into the amount of time that had passed between the two films. They embraced the opportunity to create a fresh take on the animation in the second film and let themselves be inspired by favorite films and treasured fairy tales.

Continuing its unprecedented run, Marvel was able to capture first place for the 31st film in a row as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opened to 104 million, which comes in ahead of where tracking saw it on Thursday That opening includes a 46 million Friday haul, which makes it the third highest opening day in February after 2018’s Black Panther with 75.9 million and 2016’s Deadpool with 47.3 million.
The good news for this release is that despite it getting some of the worst reviews of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (with the notable exception of our own JimmyO who gave it a solid 8/10 in his review), the audience seems to be enjoying it, as it currently has an audience score of 84 with many people saying how impressed they were with Jonathan Majors’ Kang The Conquerer. At the publication of this interview, director Joel Crawford is likely on his way across the Atlantic to attend the 2023 BAFTA Awards. Crawford, a 17-year DreamWorks Animation veteran, is up for Best Animated Film for “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.” A word of mouth wonder that surprised many not only critically, but at the box office.

The original “Shrek” franchise spin-off, 2011’s “Puss in Boots,” was directed by Chris Miller, was a hit in theaters ($555 million global) and lost the Best Animated Film Oscar in a very competitive race to Gore Verbinski’s “Rango.” A second installment seemed like a given and, like clockwork, the feline’s human voice, Antonio Banderas, was asked when Puss would return at least once or twice during whatever publicity tour he was enduring.

Refresh for latest…: The latest rerelease of James Cameron’s Titanic 3D has buoyed the big boat movie to 2.217B globally, meaning it still stands as the No. 3 worldwide release of all time. Right in its wake, Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water has now reached 2,213.5M, still the fourth biggest movie ever and less than 4M from Titanic through Sunday. It will overtake Titanic, it’s just a matter of when.
Last session, Way of Water had cruised past Titanic internationally for the No. 3 spot of all time overseas, and holds onto that crown after this weekend with 1.567B through Sunday.
Either way, Cameron was indeed king of the (box office) world this frame, with 22.3M from the Titanic reissue (Paramount has domestic and Disney overseas) as well as 25.8M for 20th Century Studios/Disney’s Way of Water.

To celebrate the long-awaited UK release of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, which arrives this week, we sat down with the cat himself and the director of the film to find out more about this new animated treat.
For the first time in more than a decade, DreamWorks Animation presents a new adventure in the Shrek universe as daring outlaw Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Puss has burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count along the way. Getting those lives back will send Puss in Boots on his grandest quest yet. We loved the film – you can read our review here.

Until this year, my only Puss in Boots-related wish was that I would never have to sit through another film from the Shrek franchise as long as I lived. I must confess, the unexpectedly entertaining Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has entirely changed my mind!
Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) squandered eight of his nine lives with a devil-may-care panache. He sang, danced and swashbuckled his way through a legendary series of adventures but his melodious pursuit of a giant may have seen the bell toll for the last time on those carefree days. Then a standoff with a foe who cannot be quipped into submission shakes the marmalade marauder to his core.
What happens when the charismatic poster puss of living for tomorrow suddenly fears he will not make it through today? Mortality is a mighty foe.

Kids will get a kick out of the sprightly and silly Puss in Boots: The Last Wish – but really, this one is for the millennials. Antonio Banderas’s pint-sized feline rogue, with his thigh-high boots and eyes as big as saucers, became an instant hit when he was introduced in 2004’s Shrek 2. But his follow-up appearances, in the later Shrek sequels and a 2011 spin-off, have played as either wrung out or purely cynical. The Last Wish offers something different and unexpected: Puss has grown up with his audience.
He is now, in exquisitely millennial fashion, suffering from feline burnout. Having already torn through eight of his nine lives (reminder to never go running with the bulls in Pamplona if you’re 15in tall), Puss must now face his mortality. And so, he slinks into his crisis era, complete with a sizable beard and an unshakeable malaise. His end-of-life stupor is interrupted,...

Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Puss In Boots: The Last Wish is a bonafide puss in loot, as it will cross the 300M mark globally with today’s grosses included.
The highly reviewed sequel and Shrek spinoff is at 297.8M with Sunday’s worldwide actuals included. Directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the adventure has surpassed Croods: The New Age and Encanto to become the third-biggest studio animation title of the pandemic era, both overseas and globally.
Puss 2 currently sits behind two other Universal animated films (Minions: The Rise of Gru and Sing 2) across the pandemic years. In the near-view rear-view, 2022 has now become the first year since 2008 where every DreamWorks animated release outgrossed every Pixar and Disney Animation release during the same year.

This story about “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” first appeared in the Awards Preview issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
DreamWorks Animation’s “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” is, ostensibly, part of the “Shrek” universe. It’s a sequel to 2011’s “Puss in Boots,” which itself was a spin-off of a character who was first introduced in “Shrek 2” and subsequently appeared in “Shrek the Third” and “Shrek Forever After.” And as such, there’s a certain vibe you expect from the film.
But the movie handily discards that expectation early on, when Puss (voiced once again by Antonio Banderas) finds himself in a bar. He’s just learned that of his nine lives, he’s used all but one, and so he’s facing down his own mortality. The mood is desperate, funereal. And then a giant evil wolf (Wagner Moura), a bounty hunter later revealed to be the personification of Death,...

It’s 18 years since Antonio Banderas’ dashing animated Puss in Boots first appeared on our screens in Shrek 2 – which is 88 cat years. After such a span, one might not expect the fabulous feline to come crashing onto the screen with quite the panache he exhibits here – but then again, cats are said to have nine lives. The problem for puss, as he discovers after his latest bit of derring-do lands him in the mortuary, is that eight of his have already been used up.
The opening is overdone, Wonder Woman 1984-style, but is swiftly followed by a magnificently entertaining scene in which we find out what happened to those other eight lives, setting the bar for the rest of the film. The only thing for Puss to do now, the doctor advises, is go into retirement and try to eke out that last life for as long...

Though he was making a sequel to a film that was already spun off from a franchise, “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” director Joel Crawford wasn’t terribly concerned with following up on a larger legacy. He knew he wanted to maintain the “elevated comedy” — especially the adult “jokes that would go over kids’ heads” — from the “Shrek” movies and 2011’s “Puss in Boots.” Visually, however, Crawford felt that this tale was ready to move beyond computer animation “that looked photoreal.”
“It’s crazy, telling the next chapter after so long, but we wanted to free ourselves,” he says. “We had the opportunity to go into new territory: this idea of being dropped into a fairy tale. You can see the brushstrokes and it looks as if you’re in a moving painting.”
But the new art style of “The Last Wish” is about more than just intensifying the...

The influence and the impact of 2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” reverberates far beyond the Oscar-winning superhero adventure’s upcoming sequel: Both of DreamWorks Animation’s current Best Animated Feature contenders traffic in the type of 2D experimentation that was ushered into the mainstream by Miles Morales and his fellow web slingers. For the heist comedy “The Bad Guys,” the studio went with the look of an illustrated book. Meanwhile, “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” — which finds the fearless feline from the “Shrek” franchise (Antonio Banderas) battling mortality after burning through the first eight of his nine lives — sports a painterly vibe in keeping with its fairy tale trappings.

French and Belgian comics inspired the characters in Disney Animation’s Strange World, which follows three generations of explorers, including teen Ethan. “He’s designed to have more realistic proportions, in contrast to other, wiry Disney teens like Hiro Hamada or Mowgli,” explains director Don Hall. “He’s biracial, and we wanted his skin tone to reflect both his mother, Meridian, and father, Searcher, and our team worked with Black hair experts to get his locks just right.” Textiles, he adds, took a cue from woven fabrics from environments like the Himalayas, with buttons and ties instead of zippers. “Given Ethan’s journey from unsettled teen to conservationist, we opted for a kind of laid-back, ‘granola’ vibe, with his green cutoff farm pants being the only subtle clue as to his internal conflict with his father’s expectations for him.” His vest is deep blue with red trim.

“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” is an astounding animated triumph, a movie that looks (and more importantly feels) much different than 2011’s “Puss in Boots” (a spin-off from the “Shrek” franchise). It’s gorgeously animated too, employing a unique visual style that director Joel Crawford described as a “fairy tale painting look.” And if you’re wondering just how they pulled it off, we’ve got some exclusive videos on the making of the movie.

Coming into a franchise as storied as the Shrek series, director Joel Crawford was thrilled at the opportunity to show a new side of the iconic Puss in Boots. A sequel to the 2011 Puss in Boots film, DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish takes place after Shrek Forever After, when Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) is accidentally killed by a bell and discovers he is down to his ninth, and final, life. After a brush with a mysterious wolf who is determined to take his last life, Puss decides to live the rest of his life in hiding. However, he soon learns about a wishing star that could help them get his lives back. Crawford wanted to take the story of Puss in Boots into a darker direction than the other films in the Shrek franchise, using inspiration from Grimm’s Fairy Tales.

Post heart attack, Antonio Banderas is relishing “Being Alive.”
Banderas, currently starring in a production of the Stephen Sondheim musical “Company” in Madrid, is making the press rounds in support of his new film “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” and he’s discussing his 2017 heart attack in-depth for the first time.
“I realized that it probably was one of the best things that ever happened in my life because the things that were not important and I was worried every day about them, meaningless,” he told Page Six.
“I was like, why am I worried about that if I’m going to die?” he said. “I knew always [that I was going to die], but now I know. I’ve seen it right here.”
“Puss in Boots” also deals with mortality, as Banderas’ titular character discovers he’s down to one of his nine lives and embarks upon a quest to discover the Last Wish and restore all nine.

“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” is out in theaters now, and it calls back to its famous feline’s first screen appearances with Shrek, Fiona and Donkey in more ways than one.
It’s been quite awhile since there’s been a “Puss in Boots” entry (the first film came out in 2011), and the “Shrek” franchise, of which it’s a spinoff, hasn’t had a feature since 2010. As such, this new “Puss in Boots” has to not only work as a standalone film but prime the pump for the return of everyone’s favorite flatulent green ogre. (There is an as-yet-unannounced fifth “Shrek” film currently in development at DreamWorks).
That’s a lot of pressure for one little kitty’s shoulders!

The cat is basically Zorro with fur, and it’s perfectly suited to Banderas’ Latin purr. This film finds the adventurer unexpectedly down to his last life after wasting eight of his nine lives on exploits both heroic, and stupid. He’s haunted by the Big Bad Wolf (Wagner Moura) a whistling bounty hunter who is the embodiment of death, and settles down to a tamed life in the care of the cat lady in fairy land. While there, Puss in Boots grows a beard and trudges through his days drowning his sorrows in leche,...

Plot: Puss in Boots is back, and this time he is nearly out of his nine lives. Thankfully he may have an answer. With the legend of a lost star that can grant a single wish, he and his pals seek out this magical item in hopes to prolong his kitty lives.
Review: The cat is back. Over a decade after the first cat-centric adventure, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish makes a swashbuckling return to the big screen. Antonio Banderas is back as Puss, along with his on-and-off romantic interest, Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek). This time, the cast includes a good-hearted undercover puppy played by by the scene-stealer Harvey Guillén. Florence Pugh as Goldilocks, and her three bears are all terrific. John Mulaney shows up as the adult version of Jack Horner – if you remember the nursery rhyme – and he embraces it rather well. And William Moura is delightfully...

At the beginning of 2022, who would have thought that a sequel to an 11-year-old film, the sixth entry in a 21-year-old franchise, would end up being one of the best animated movies of the year? But that's only part of what's surprising about "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish."
Antonio Banderas returns as the titular Puss, who discovers he's down to the last of his nine lives, having lost his other ones by acting recklessly. Depressed and scared for the first time, he embarks on one last desperate quest — to find a legendary Wishing Star, which could grant him more lives and allow him to return to his devil-may-care persona. The film looks stunning, with stylized visuals that mix 3D and 2D, anime-like fight scenes, and a darker story inspired by spaghetti westerns that's reminiscent of something like "Logan."

If you would have told 11-year-old me that I'd be in my 30s and still talking about the "Shrek" cinematic universe ... I probably would have believed you. For over 20 years, "Shrek" has permeated pop culture with merchandising, TV specials, short films, a Broadway musical, themed raves, and a spin-off series that has turned into its own bonafide franchise. First introduced in "Shrek 2," the character of Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) is back with an all-new movie, the shockingly heavy, "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish." The film sees our titular hero at a crossroads — realizing that his life of adventure has cost him eight of his nine lives. Knowing that every adventure could be his last, Puss sets out on the adventure of a lifetime to find the mythical Last Wish in an attempt to restore his nine lives.

The overwhelming volume of "Shrek"-related media continues to grow with "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish," the new animated film from director Joel Crawford. "The Last Wish" is a sequel to the 2011 "Puss in Boots" feature which, in itself, was a spinoff from "Shrek 2" in 2004. The film's title character -- a variation of the character first seen in 16th-century Italian literature -- is a stylish, sword-wielding hero voiced with brio by Antonio Banderas. Much of the character's comedic power comes from the fact that, well, he's an anthropomorphic cat who has sword fights with humans six times his size. That is, before he pauses for a hairball.
In "The Last Wish," however, Puss finds himself facing his mortality. Cats have nine lives and, after a moment of reflection, our heroic cat realizes he has finally reached his last one. While drinking away his newfound mortal anxiety in a bar,...
