- (January 2016) Played the title role in Richard Strand's Civil War play "Butler" at Detroit Repertory Theater.
- (1990s) With fellow actor Andrew Powdermaker founded the Aspect Theatre Company, which presented staged readings of old and new plays, some unpublished, primarily at the Sulzer Branch Public Library in Chicago. Some of the plays: William Hanley's "Slow Dance on the Killing Ground," William Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," Lee Blessing's "A Walk in the Woods" (starring Hissong as a Soviet diplomat) and George Crowe's adaptation of the Howard Fast novel about John Peter Altgeld, "The American."
- (March 26, 1999 - April 14, 1999) Played Polonius in "Hamlet," the first full production of The Shakespeare Project of Chicago, at the Duncan YMCA/Chernin's Center for the Arts in Chicago and then at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, IL.
- (September 15 - 17, 2011) Played Deacon Nash in William Rumbler's play "Bring Your Gun to Church" at Madison Street Theater in Oak Park, IL.
