“The Congressman” follows Charlie Winship (Treat Williams), a seasoned Maine Congressman who has grown disillusioned with the political system, especially the special interest lobbyists and internal infighting. But when a video of him failing to rise for the pledge of allegiance surfaces on the Internet, Charlie is thrown into a public firestorm and is subjected to harsh criticism about his character and values. Along with that, Charlie contends with a conniving lobbyist (George Hamilton), an advisor with secrets of his own (Ryan Merriman), and a divorce from his wife (Jayne Atkinson). But despite his fears of irrelevancy, he finds hope in a small coastal village and the town’s librarian (Elizabeth Marvel), and fights for their rights when they’re under attack by a powerful fishing conglomerate.
