[This story contains spoilers from the fourth and final season of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever.]
Netflix’s Never Have I Ever ended its fourth and final season with lead character Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) at her dream college, Princeton, and with the long-awaited resolution of the series-long love triangle between Devi, Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet) and Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison).
Devi ends the show with Ben, with the pair cuddling together in Devi’s dorm room. The enemies-turned-friends-turned-lovers start off the final season having sex but after the awkward experience, the first time for both of them, they don’t immediately get together, with Ben dating art student Margot (Victoria Moroles) and Devi having a fling with bad boy Ethan (Michael Cimino). As their senior year progresses, Devi and Ben find themselves becoming friends again after not even speaking to each other for part of the fall, but it’s not until the final episode that the two finally couple up.

Netflix’s Never Have I Ever is going out with a bang.
The official trailer for the final batch of episodes of the coming-of-age high-school comedy from Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher sees season four kicking off right where season three ended.
Though it appears Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and Ben (Jaren Lewison) may have taken each other up on their mutual offer, the two don’t seem to be together yet, with Ben spotted kissing art student Margot (Victoria Moroles) as he and Devi have some awkward interactions.
The confusion continues as Devi spots Paxton (Darren Barnet) back at her school despite having graduated at the end of season three. But Paxton’s appearance offers a hint of how Barnet returns to the series for its final season.

Snow Falls opens with a warning sign, a pair of ravens sitting on the sign welcoming the characters to the town of Snow Falls. A bigger warning sign for the viewer however should be the squabbling going on inside their vehicle. Complaints about someone studying, somebody sitting with their feet on the dash, or someone else not wearing a seat belt. The kind of pointless bitching that makes you wonder why these people hang out together.
But the five of them, Kit, Em, Eden, Andy and River are on their way to spend New Year’s Eve at a massive “cabin” owned by River’s family. “This is your second home?” “Third if you count the one we’re building on Martha’s Vinyard”.

It’s wild how many new horror movies have already released here in the early days of 2023, and this week brings a whopping Ten more to the table between now and this coming Friday.

Snow Falls is a horror film directed by Colton Tran starring Jonathan Bennett, Patrick Fabian and Victoria Moroles.
A low budget film about some young people isolated in a log cabin that is just a horror film about young people, evolves as that and behaves as that, simply along the lines of pre-established parameters.
It is up to scratch technically and rhythmically, but the script falls short.
Storyline
Some friends are trapped in a winter storm. With no electricity and barely any food, they will be prey to terror, paranoia and deep dread about the snow that surrounds them.
Review Snow Falls (2023)
Five young middle class (upper middle class) drinking shots of whiskey and enjoying their youth in a horror film. We have seen the pattern stated so many times in horror films that right from the beginning we feel a certain weariness in spite of the good presentation in the vein of The Shining.

Bloody Disgusting has an exclusive clip Lionsgate’s Snow Falls, which stars Mean Girls’ Jonathan Bennett.
In the film…
“After a winter storm strands five friends in a remote cabin with no power and little food, disorientation slowly claims their sanity as each of them succumbs to a fear that the snow itself may be contaminated or somehow evil.”
Directed by Colton Tran, Snow Falls also stars John Berchtold (A Hard Problem), Victoria Moroles (“Teen Wolf”), Anne Grace Barlow (“The Fosters”), and Patrick Fabian (“Better Call Saul”).
The trailer looked a bit like a winter-set Cabin Fever, with a virus and subsequential madness, while the clip offers up the addition of a spooky snowman!
It will be released on demand and digital January 17th.

One of my favorite films of the year, Blood Relatives follows 115-year-old vampire (Noah Segan), whose eternal road trip through the US countryside is interrupted when he discovers he has a teenage daughter (Victoria Moroles) navigating her own vampiric growing pains (and fangs).
With Blood Relatives now streaming on Shudder, I had the great pleasure of talking with Segan about the making of his family-centric horror comedy, including working with Victoria Moroles and the heartfelt story of how he came to acquire the car featured in the film.
Blood Relatives synopsis: "Francis, a 115-year-old Yiddish vampire, still looks 35. He’s been roaming American backroads in his beat-up muscle car for decades, keeping to himself, and liking it that way. One day, Jane, a teenager, shows up. She says she’s his daughter, and she’s got the fangs to prove it. They go on the road, deciding whether to sink their teeth into family life.

Actor Noah Segan follows up “M.I.S.T..E.R.” his segment from last year’s Scare Package with his first feature, Blood Relatives, a comedy that proves blood, and the thirst for it, is thicker than water.
Francis (Noah Segan) is a vampire. He keeps to himself and travels the backroads trying to avoid attention. He’s been doing a fairly good job of it too until the clerk at a motel makes a comment about a girl who can’t be more than sixteen in his room. He’s confused, but as it turns out she’s right. The girl’s name is Jane, and she claims to be his daughter by way of an indiscretion while he was passing through Elk River. And she has the fangs to prove it. Since...

As a vampire without American identification, you could say Francis (Noah Segan) is an illegal immigrant regardless of the fact he’s lived in the country longer than anyone else currently alive with a legitimate birth certificate. Why he chooses to drive through red states in his vintage Barracuda while confusing Alex Jones-loving, conspiracy-theorizing yokels with Yiddish is therefore a mystery. This is the solitary bachelor life he’s chosen, though. And perhaps that part of the country is simply better suited for a nomadic lifestyle demanding a sense of secrecy considering the trail of bodies Francis inevitably leaves in his wake (animal meat makes him bloated). There’s also no shortage of racist criminals no one will miss for him to kill. Happiness is an unnecessary luxury. Survival is paramount.

A snappily directed debut from frequent Rian Johnson collaborator Noah Segan about a teenage girl looking for a father figure in a flighty vampire
From Let the Right One In to What We Do in the Shadows, the domesticated wing of the vampire genre is getting overcrowded. So frequent Rian Johnson collaborator Noah Segan has done well to wangle himself a few inches of elbow room in his directorial debut with a surprisingly gentle, ruminative and haunted film concerned with family and belonging. Focused on an estranged father and daughter on the road played by Segan himself and Victoria Moroles, it almost plays out like an undead Paper Moon.
Blood Relatives starts with a Near Dark-like glower, as Segan’s biker-jacketed drifter Francis makes a convenience store stop-off for carb gaskets and haemoglobin. When he checks into a motel to escape daylight, he’s collared by obstinate teenager Jane (Moroles...

Everyone has a story to tell, and Noah Segan finally found his.
The Blood Relatives writer/director/star, who’s most known for his ongoing collaboration with filmmaker Rian Johnson, has spent the majority of his life performing on sets, but he never really considered directing a feature film until recently. It was fatherhood that ultimately changed his perspective, and the pandemic, in turn, provided him the time and opportunity that led to the creation of Blood Relatives, a horror-comedy about a 115-year-old Jewish vampire (Segan) who discovers he has a teenage daughter (Victoria Moroles).
“I started a family and I discovered who I really am,” Segan tells The Hollywood Reporter. “So the story sort of sprang from that, while trying to obviously think about it in terms of the movies that I like and the stories that I like, which often happen to be genre tales.

If there’s one word that could effectively capture actor Noah Segan’s feature directorial debut, Blood Relatives, it’d likely be earnestness.
The charming horror-comedy sees writer/director Segan starring as Francis, an old vampire whose nomadic lifestyle gets upended by the arrival of Jane (Victoria Moroles), the teen daughter he never knew he had. Francis and Jane embark on a bloodsucking road trip that’ll test their new family bonds.
Blood Relatives is a personal story for Segan. Ahead of its release on Shudder, just in time for Thanksgiving on November 22, 2022, Bloody Disgusting spoke with the filmmaker about the horror-comedy’s charming sincerity, Jewish vampires, and the touching origin story behind Francis’s ultra-cool 1969 Barracuda Fastback.
It becomes apparent from the outset that Francis’s identity is intertwined with not just his vampirism but his Jewish heritage. When horror often explores Judaism through demonic possession, Blood Relatives offers a refreshing departure.

"What if the snow is contaminated?" Lionsgate has unveiled an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Snow Falls, the latest from young filmmaker Colton Tran. This one is being released direct-to-vod in January and hasn't played at any festivals, which should be a pretty good indication of the quality. After a winter storm strands five friends staying in a remote cabin for New Years Eve with no power and little food, disorientation slowly claims their sanity as each of them succumbs to a fear that the snow itself (that they ate as snow cones) may be contaminated or somehow… evil. But maybe it's not really the snow?? The film stars Victoria Moroles, Anna Grace Barlow , Johnny Berchtold, Jonathan Bennett, and Patrick Fabian. This looks really cheesy and cheap, not surprised they are dumping it in January. How much you want to bet all this happening is just in their heads?...

"What do you want from me?!" "Everything!!" Shudder has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror comedy titled Blood Relatives, about a vampire on a road trip with his estranged daughter. This marks the feature directorial debut of actor Noah Segan, best known as "Kid Blue", appearing quite often in Rian Johnson films and plenty others. A vampire's loner lifestyle is thrown into disarray when a teenager shows up claiming to be his daughter, and she's got the fangs to prove it – on a road trip across America's blacktops, they decide how to sink their teeth into family life. Blood Relatives stars Noah Segan and Victoria Moroles, with Akasha Villalobos, C.L. Simpson, Ammie Masterson, Tracie Thoms, Jon Proudstar, & Josh Ruben. It looks like some low budget, bloody dark comedy, vampire fun. Enjoy. ›››

Becoming a parent changes absolutely everything, especially when unplanned. Blood Relatives sees a nomad’s life gets upended by the arrival of a daughter he never knew he had, causing a seismic shift in his isolated bachelor lifestyle. The twist here is that the central character is a bloodsucking vampire whose inner mensch gets brought to the surface by his new teen daughter. Writer/Director Noah Segan’s feature debut brings a charming soft touch to the vampire tale, favoring dad jokes and affecting bonds over savage bloodletting.

One of the highlights of Fantastic Fest, is Blood Relatives. This is the type of film that festivals were made for. It’s from a first-time feature director and bends the rules of genre in order to create something unique and all its own. Writer/Director Noah Segan is no stranger to film, having starred in a number of movies (including Brick and Knives Out) and having directed the "M.I.S.T.,E.R." segment of Scare Package, but this year, he comes to the fest with his own feature film. Blood Relatives is a really charming relationship/road trip movie. With vampires. Did I mention vampires? Hells yes! Vampires!
Segan stars as Francis, a lone drifter (and also vampire) who drives from place to place in his kick-ass Barracuda. He gets what he needs as he needs it, drinks blood as necessary, and just sort of…exists. One day,...

"Blood Relatives" is a movie with a lot of heart. And blood. Lots and lots of blood, because this is the story of a pair of vampires. But it's also a father-daughter bonding flick; a road trip movie; and a surprisingly non-stop delivery system for Yiddish words. Written, directed by, and starring Noah Segan, "Blood Relatives" is clearly a passion project for the actor (who you probably primarily know from his frequent collaborations with Rian Johnson), and as is often the case with passion projects for actors-turned-filmmakers, it's a little clumsy. There are scenes that feel awkwardly long, in dire need of some trimming — a mid-movie sequence shot day-for-night goes on seemingly forever and robs the movie of serious momentum, for instance.
And yet, "Blood Relatives" is so unapologetically warm — especially for a vampire flick — that it's hard not to be charmed by it all. You'll notice the clunky bits that need some fixing.

Exclusive: Sacred Hunger, the Booker Prize-winning novel by Barry Unsworth, is set for a small-screen remake.
Plan B and Marshall exec producer Chris Bongirne and his production company Smokestack Films have teamed up with financier Stephen Leist to acquire the rights to the book, which follows the journey of a struggling young English doctor aboard 18th century slave ship the Liverpool Merchant.
The book was published in 1992 and it shared the Booker Prize that year with Michael Ondaatje’s The English Patient, which went on to become Anthony Minghella’s Oscar-winning film starring Ralph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas.
Sacred Hunger begins when the ship is stricken by disease, watching as its crew and their cargo of African prisoners, meant for the slave trade, unite in mutiny, a move that will ultimately free both from the period’s oppressive and dehumanizing grip of commerce and greed.

As states across the US see access to abortion restricted, three eerily similar films about teenage girls caught in an unfair system shine a necessary light
The Hulu comedy Plan B, released last week, portrays a hectic weekend in the life of two South Dakota teenage girls, with the zaniness of Booksmart and Superbad-esque raunch updated for 2021. But whereas the Booksmart girls sought to party, and the teens in Superbad tried to get laid, inseparable Sunny (Kuhoo Verma) and Lupe (Victoria Moroles) have a more practical, urgent mission: obtain morning-after contraception at the nearest Planned Parenthood, three hours away after a pharmacist invokes the state’s “conscience clause” to deny the “Plan B” pill to 17-year-old Sunny – an obscure barrier to reproductive healthcare writers / high school friends Joshua Levy and Prathiksha Srinivasan pulled directly from real life.

Photo: ‘Plan B’/Hulu Hulu’s Newest Female-Led Comedy - The Rundown Films full of embarrassing situations, empowering young characters, raunchy comedy, and the desperation to fix the problems they’ve started are the basic essentials to any coming-of-age comedy movie, and Hulu’s latest release ‘Plan B’ starring Kuhoo Verma (‘The Big Sick’) and Victoria Moroles (‘Teen Wolf’) perfectly fits that mold. Verma stars as Sunny, the type-a, book smart overachiever high school student who feverishly aims to please her stringent Indian American mother. For Gen Z, getting birth control should be easier than ever and abortion access is a right, and yet women’s bodily autonomy is still under attack. Last year, there were two films about teens helping each other cross state lines in order to receive the health care they desperately need: Eliza Hittman’s neo-realistic drama “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” and Rachel Lee Goldenberg’s buddy comedy “Unpregnant.” Both films show how access to unfettered health care for teen girls is a state-by-state issue, hitting hardest in rural America.

Two is a coincidence and three is a trend — and that includes the burgeoning genre of road trip movies about teen BFFs dealing with reproductive health. Natalie Morales’ “Plan B” joins Eliza Hittman’s luminous “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” and Rachel Lee Goldenberg’s cheeky “Unpregnant” and, like those films, follows a pair of best friends who are forced to fend for themselves in a world that doesn’t value girls or their medical autonomy. Much like “Unpregnant” in particular, , though it doesn’t hammer its realities home quite as hard as its predecessors.

It was about halfway through Natalie Morales’ Plan B (her directorial debut if you go by theatrical release date considering her festival title Language Lessons from earlier this year has yet to secure one) that Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg’s producer credits came into focus because it was there that the parallels to Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle became undeniable. If actor-turned-director Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart was created in the Superbad vein, Joshua Levy and Prathiksha Srinivasan’s script was certainly drawn from that of the Cobra Kai showrunners’ breakthrough comedy. And it’s not just because they share having two non-white stars on a drug- and sex-fueled adventure in search of a holy grail. What connects them most is the heartfelt and inclusive ride-or-die friendship at their cores.

“Plan B” is a girls-behaving-badly all-night-long road-trip comedy that’s The film made me realize that almost every time a movie like this one comes along that has young women at the center of it, it’s been an independent film. In the randy teens + binge party = escalating trainwreck genre of high delinquent comedy, that’s a crucial distinction, because it means that the films bypass a certain mainstream blandification. “Plan B” will be released May 28 on Hulu, and it’s clear that the relevant executive note-givers did not see fit to demand that the movie lose certain jokes outrageous enough to hit viewers like a comic shock wave.
Whereas a comedy like “Superbad,” great as it is, was able to draw on films ranging from “American Graffiti” to “License to Drive,” “Plan B” has a vastly shorter pedigree, one that stretches back to maybe “Bachelorette” (2012), a scabrously anti-romantic comedy...

As you might expect, this doesn't look that great - another derivative dark mansion, supernatural thriller with all the typical spooks & scares. Give us something new! Not more of this. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Rodrigo Cortés' Down A Dark Hall, direct from YouTube...
