Comic book superheroes are inherently kind of silly, which is part of their charm. That's not to say you can't use them to tell dramatic stories or explore serious real-world issues; many talented comic book writers and filmmakers have done exactly that. All the same, it's quite easy to poke fun at them, from their vibrantly colored outfits to their ridiculous superhuman powers.
Case in point: Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman. Created by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris for DC Comics in 1941, the character was a glorified punchline in the public's eyes for a long time, and not without reason. It's not just that Aquaman's classic orange-and-green...

While “Avengers: Infinity War” topped the 17th annual Ves Awards (to be held February 5th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel) with six nominations, “Black Panther,” Marvel’s other Oscar frontrunner, was shut out. And Damien Chazelle’s acclaimed “First Man,” another frontrunner, was included in the supporting category as a result of its invisible VFX. Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” meanwhile, was also snubbed.
However, joining “Infinity War” in the top VFX category were a surprising list: “Ready Player One” (with five nominations), “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” “Christopher Robin” and “Welcome to Marwen.” Joining “First Man” for supporting VFX were “12 Strong,” Bird Box,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and “Outlaw King”.
In animation, Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” was the big winner with five nominations, followed by Sony’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and Disney’s “Ralph Breaks the Internet” with four. They were joined by Illumination’s “The Grinch” and Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs.

Created by Paul Norris & Mort Weisinger, Aquaman debuted in 1941's More Fun Comics #73. In his Golden Age appearances, Aquaman is described as a human being who lives and thrives under the water and can speak with sea creatures "in their own language." During the late '50s and 60s, Aquaman was established as a founding member of the Justice League and was a mainstay on Hanna Barbera’s Super Friends, which ran from 1973 to 1986. In the '90s, the wholesome seahorse-riding superhero was re-imagined as the brooding King of Atlantis. Fast-forward to 2011 and The New 52, DC's relaunch of their entire superhero line, and Geoff Johns' cutting-edge revival of the character, which serves as the basis for Aquaman, the third live-action movie featuring the character, following Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Directed by James Wan, the movie stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, a half-Atlantean...

To bring the film’s themes to life musically, Aquaman director James Wan turned to composer Rupert Gregson-Williams, who says, “Writing the themes for the different characters was awesome. Arthur Curry has such a strong character—he’s a real rock star—so I felt he deserved a big melody. He gets to rock out for certain intense moments too. Orm is Atlantean, and...

Ready to see what DC Comics and Dceu goodness is hidden in the seaweed of the Aquaman movie? We've got you covered!
This article contains nothing but Aquaman spoilers.
After years of development, the Aquaman movie is finally here. For a little perspective, we first glimpsed Jason Momoa as Aquaman in a brief cameo in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but he had been cast in the role as early as 2014. That's...quite a long time to wait for the king of Atlantis to ascend (or descend) to his throne, even when you take his starring role in last year's Justice League movie into account.
And just as we've seen in every Dceu movie, Aquaman is absolutely packed to the gills (sorry) with DC Universe easter eggs. With a tremendous amount of reverence for Aquaman comic book history, and a few subtle nods to the wider DC Comics world,...

Hold onto your fins, everyone. James Wan and Jason Momoa brought “Aquaman” to San Diego Comic-Con during Warner Bros.’ annual Hall H panel Saturday morning, along with the first trailer for the film that dares to ask: can Aquaman actually be cool?
The answer is apparently “hell yes,” judging from the footage, which you can watch above.
Based on the character created in 1941 by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris for DC, “Aquaman” picks up after the events of “Justice League,” as Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa), the reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, is caught in a battle between surface dwellers that threaten his oceans and his own people, who are ready to lash out and invade the surface.

Warner Bros. has released the first poster for the upcoming adaptation of DC’s ‘Aquaman‘. Although we saw some new images from the film last week, this striking new poster comes in anticipation of the film’s San Diego Comic-Con 2018 panel. As someone who hasn’t been too keen on most of the Dceu films, I have to say that ‘Aquaman ‘looks to be extremely promising based on this poster. Director James Wan is the perfect choice for bringing Atlantis to life, and it seems that Wan is keen on lightening the tone up a bit.

Overnight news broke that Moulin Rouge star Nicole Kidman and relative newcomer Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are set to join Warner Bros. / DC’s Aquaman. At this stage it seems both are in talks Atlanna, Aquaman’s mother and and the villain Black Manta respectively. If they are confirmed, they’ll join Amber Heard as Aquaman’s royal love interest Mera, Patrick Wilson as villain Orm (also Aquaman’s half brother) and acting veteran Willem Dafoe who is playing Vulko.
Abdul-Mateen II may not be someone you’re familiar with but he’ll appear in Paramount’s movie reboot of hit TV show Baywatch in the summer and has appeared in Netflix’s The Get Down from Moulin Rouge, Australia director Baz Luhrmann (spot the link!). At the moment neither have been confirmed by the studio but THR are reporting that they’re both have been in talks...

If The Flash solo movie is currently spinning its wheels – after losing both Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick Famuyiwa, Warner’s 2018 origin story is still on the hunt for a new director – the opposite is true for James Wan’s Aquaman.
Now that lead star Jason Momoa has all but completed his filming for November’s Justice League, production on Aquaman is expected to get going sometime this summer, and Wan has now called a table read with Amber Heard (Mera), Patrick Wilson (Orm the Oceanmaster) and Momoa himself. Hailing from the director’s Twitter feed, there’s no sign of Willem Dafoe, who will be rubbing shoulders with Heard, Wilson and Momoa as Vulko, the Atlantean ally who’s also set to feature in Zack Snyder’s forthcoming ensemble movie. Don’t read into that one too much, as Dafoe’s schedule likely prevented him from swinging by – either that...

Whether you do or don't agree with Zack Snyder about how awesome Aquaman is, the fact is that Warner Bros. is working hard to produce a blockbuster based on the DC Comics superhero. The studio has hired two writers, Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad, to write individual scripts for Aquaman.
The goal of hiring two writers to work on separate scripts is so that in the end the studios and producers are left with the best version of the story. Aquaman is one of the installments in a series of movies that will be a part of the DC Comics cinematic universe.
There's some speculation on when Aquaman is set to hit the big screen, but Warner Bros. has yet to make that official. The first untitled DC movie is set for release on August 5, 2016. 2017 has two movie release dates – June 23 and November 17.

As Warner Bros.’ plans for the DC Comics Justice League cinematic universe take shape, the focus is turning to an as-yet unseen member of the group. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has Gangster Squad’s Will Beall and 300: Rise Of An Empire’s Kurt Johnstad working on two different versions of a script for the Aquaman. The hope is that one – or both, if the concepts are mashed together – could end up as the script for an Aquaman film, one that could presumably slotted into the studio’s planned batch of release dates, which it recently marked out through to 2020. Beall, at least, has form with the DC canon, as he was hired to write a version of the Justice League screenplay before the current plan rolled out. Created in 1941 by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger, Aquaman has been a part of the Justice League team since...

The ongoing contract negotiations with CBS/Wbtv and the core cast of "The Big Bang Theory" loomed over Friday (July 25) morning's San Diego Comic-Con panel, or at least the negotiations loomed if you happened to be obsessed with such things. If you're not, the negotiations were a total non-factor in the spirited and amusing give-and-take between the show's writers, moderator Craig Ferguson and the Comic-Con crowd. According to a Deadline.com story, question monitors at the panel prevented Deadline from asking about the negotiations, which raises exactly two issues for me: 1) The writers of "The Big Bang Theory," for the most part, could hardly have less to do with negotiations that are going on far, far, far above their paygrade or job description. Even the highest ranking writers on the panel, folks like co-creator Bill Prady and showrunner Steve Molaro, could hardly have less to do with those negotiations and...

The Big Bang Theory, no surprise, is a major hit with the Comic-Con crowd. When the show’s writers and producers gathered for a panel at the con, they delivered a consistently entertaining panel, with a few surprise guests and a couple of tidbits about the show’s upcoming eighth season.
Things kicked off with an appearance from Garfunkel and Oates (a.k.a. Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, who played Lucy on Big Bang). The geeky folk duo wrote “If I Didn’t Have You,” the song Howard sang to Bernadette this season, and they serenaded the Ballroom 20 audience...

He's one of the pillars of the Justice League, having been an original founding member of the team, and is the subject of great storytelling by some of comics' best creators. "He talks to fish, so what?" That seems to be the representative attitude by many people who don't know about the character beyond the fact that he dwells in the ocean, but fact is DC Comics has managed to shape Aquaman into one of the publisher's most compelling characters, carrying the burden of a throne that he doesn't always want. Aquaman Begins Aquaman was created in 1941 by writer Mort Weisinger and artist Paul Norris. Originally able to speak the "language of the sea," Aquaman could confer with fish and other sea creatures and enlist their aid when he felt...

This weekend, I watched the new DC animated film "Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox," and I thought it was really well-done overall. One of the things that most impressed me was a credits block where they named the creators of several of the major characters used in the film. "Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. By Special Arrangement with the Jerry Siegel Family. Batman created by Bob Kane. Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston. Aquaman created by Paul Norris. Etrigan The Demon created by Jack Kirby. Cyborg and Deathstroke created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. Grifter created...
