On-screen text sets the scene for Dagr, clarifying that the unfolding film is video footage from an ongoing homicide investigation that professional filmmakers have edited. The opening footage establishes central characters Louise (Riz Moritz) and Thea (Ellie Duckles), best friends who are fame-seeking YouTubers with a huge following. The pair disguise their faces in order to make their videos, where they commit crimes such as theft and graffiti in the name of justice.
For their next video, the pair arrive at a lavish house where a commercial is being filmed. As the duo intend to steal fancy items to donate to the poor, they are unaware that the filming crew have accidentally awakened a druid demon from the past. What unfolds are strange occurrences which threaten their lives.

Matthew Butler-Hart’s film lurches from social-media comedy to shaky-cam bloodletting, but never comes near the primeval emotions of the Blair Witch Project it so often references
At one point in this found-footage paganistic slasher from British director Matthew Butler-Hart, Thea (Ellie Duckles), one of a pair of stereotypically annoying YouTubers, ironically performs the “I’m so sorry” monologue from the Blair Witch Project to camera. Dagr also comes prefaced with a Blair Witch-style opening statement that it has been cobbled together from their final footage. But Butler-Hart’s film doesn’t get anywhere near Blair Witch levels of primeval emotions – partly because of an ambitious and perhaps over-fussy structure, and partly because its digital-age perma-snark tone cancels out fear for much of it.
Thea and her running buddy Louise (Riz Moritz) pride themselves on being online Robin Hoods – filming “heists” of swag from the rich with their faces plastered over with giant emoticons,...

"We are on the cusp of propelling human evolution to a staggering new dimension." Gravitas Ventures has released a new US trailer for a sci-fi thriller titled Infinitum: Subject Unknown. The title is a reference to the concept of "Ad Infinitum" - again and again in the same way; forever. A mind-bending slice of British science fiction, with cameos from Sir Ian McKellen and Conleth Hill. The film stars Tori Butler-Hart as Jane, a woman who is trapped in a parallel universe and is forced to find a way to alter her reality before it is too late. She soon discovers that she is stuck in a time-loop, destined to relive the same day over and over again. With each "reset" she begins to reclaim her memories and piece together the clues to what is happening. I dig sci-fi made on a budget that plays with big concepts, and I...

This iPhone-shot sci-fi drama with cameos from Ian McKellen and Conleth Hill is impressively realised, though the plot ultimately frustrates
You’ve got to admire wife and husband film-makers Tori and Matthew Butler-Hart. Stuck in their London flat at the start of the pandemic, the pair wrote a sci-fi script together: a Groundhog-Day-meets-The-Matrix tale of a woman trapped in a time loop. They shot it à deux on an iPhone; she stars, he directs. And there are a couple of cameos, from Ian McKellen and Game of Thrones actor Conleth Hill (who quite literally phoned in their performances from home). It’s a genuinely impressive achievement, but for a film about the infinite possibilities of parallel universes, it’s exasperatingly samey.
Tori Butler-Hart is Jane, a woman who wakes up every morning tied to a chair in the attic of a London semi with no memory of how she got there.

Three survivors of a tragedy at sea wash up on the shores of a mysterious island in this intelligent supernatural drama
The Isle is a well-made, forcefully acted film from director Matthew Butler-Hart; he has co-written the screenplay with his partner Tori Butler-Hart – who also acts in the movie – and together they have created an intriguing work, modestly and intelligently conceived, a supernatural melodrama characterised by an eerie sort of restraint. There are hints of Shakespeare and classical and Scots mythology.
It is the mid-19th century and three sailors, Oliver (Alex Hassell), Jim (Graham Butler) and Cailean (Fisayo Akinade) are the only survivors of a terrible wreck. On their leaky lifeboat they have somehow made it over to a mysterious island off the Scottish coast, where the inhabitants clearly have terrible secrets and are strangely unhelpful when it comes to getting these men back to the mainland. "This is a dead isle. We're only here because we've no choice." Great Point Media recently debuted the first official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled The Isle, set in 1846 on a remote island off the west coast of Scotland. Based loosely on Scottish ghostly folklore with inspiration from the Greek sirens, the film is about three survivors from a mysterious sinking of their merchant ship who find themselves stuck on a small isle, where the only inhabitants seem just as strange as the things that begin to happen. From director Matthew Butler-Hart, The Isle features Conleth Hill, Alex Hassell, Tori Butler-Hart, Fisayo Akinade, Alix Wilton Regan, Graham Butler, and Emma King. If you're in the mood for a misty, chilling Scottish isle supernatural horror, then this is just what you've been waiting to see. Looks like it has a few spooky scenes. Stephen Fry and Derek Jacobi are amongst the backers of the impressive British contract killer movie, Two Down...
Filmmakers seem to have a fixation with hitmen. No doubt this is because the addition of a contract killer creates the opportunity for just the right degree of tension, some violence, and a dash of psychological intrigue. Nevertheless, the formula can still produce idiosyncratic results, as Two Down, from Fizz and Ginger Films, proves. With backing from executive producers Stephen Fry and Derek Jacobi, the husband and wife team have created an absorbing drama with a very British flavour.
Matthew Butler Hart, the film’s director and co-writer, says they wanted to do something which involved three people together in a room, with both light and dark elements. Out of that grew this understated thriller, combining the influence of 1970s spy movies with a dry sense of humour.

Independent films have a tough time getting exposure so when one turns up that really impresses you, it makes you want to shout from a mountaintop for people to take the time to see it. Keeping Rosy is an example of a film that deserves to be noticed, but did you know it is released starting tomorrow, June 27th? I’m sure the answer is no; and that is a real weakness in the film industry in the UK at the moment. Smaller movies tend to get lost in all the publicity for the “blockbusters.” Films like Keeping Rosy deserve to be seen and to be a success, in my review hopefully I’ll show why.
Charlotte (Peake) is a career driven women with eyes on a promotion.

Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Gillian Anderson and Mark Williams have all signed on to period zombie flick The Curse Of The Buxom Strumpet. Apart from having the coolest title this side of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, that’s one heck of a cast for essentially a glorified horror movie. Strumpet is based on director Matthew Butler’s 2010 short movie E’gad Zombies, which also starred Ian McKellen, and followed a 1700s town in England that becomes overrun with zombies. This new zombie film has been co-written by Tori Hart,...

A comedy British zombie film starring Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, and “X-Files’” Scully aka Gillian Anderson? Where do I sign up? The threesome, along with Mark Williams, have signed up to star in Matthew Butler’s delightfully titled “The Curse Of The Buxom Strumpet”, a film that will take place in the 18th century and revolve around “the inhabitants of a small seaside town are struck down with a deadly illness.” That illness? Zombies, probably. The film will be based on Butler’s own short film, “E’gad, Zombies”, which he co-wrote and co-starred with Tori Hart and McKellen last year. Here’s a long description of the short and, we presume, most of the feature: The 1700′s…ish, Oxfordshire, England. In the sleepy town of Upper Trollop, there lived a poet named William Filthe’. He was in love with the beautiful but slightly terrifying Vanity Banks, and although she was engaged to his brother,...

Judi Dench in John Madden's Mrs. Brown The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet may make zombie flick non-aficionados rethink their stance. Buxom Strumpet, to be directed by Matthew Butler, will feature Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Gillian Anderson, and Mark Williams. McKellen and Dench have eight Oscar nominations among them — two for McKellen, six for Dench — including Dench's win in the Best Supporting Actress category for her Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love. Co-written by Butler and Tori Hart, the 18th century-set The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet tells the story of the denizens of a seaside town who suddenly come down [...]...

The Curse Of The Buxom Strumpet To Star Ian McKellen And Judi Dench
No doubt in the same spirit as its title, The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet looks to bring a fun blend of horror hi-jinx and bawdy humor to a starched period drama backdrop. According to Screen Daily, Matthew Butler will helm this zombie horror/comedy set in the 18th century, with acting heavyweights Dame Judi Dench and Sir Ian McKellen starring. With only about a $3 million budget, this film project boasts an impressive cast. Dench and McKellen will be joined by Gillian Anderson (X-Files) and Mark Williams (Harry Potter). Butler has dabbled in acting, but it seems he’s passionate about getting behind the camera. The story for The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet, co-written by Butler and Tori Hart, is an extension of his 2010 short film E’gad Zombies. McKellen also narrated Butler’s film short,...

You know that the zombie craze has reached a weird point when you read news that, of all people, Ian McKellen and Judi Dench will be starring together in one of these movies. But, ScreenDaily says that the two thespians will be doing so, regardless of their general preference for good material.
That movie has the awful title of The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet, and it’s based off a short film, titled E’gad, Zombies! That short, directed by Matthew Butler and co-written by Butler and Tori Hart, even featured McKellen as the narrator (and whatever is going on in the above picture). The creative team will be working together again on the feature film, which is set to shoot in Scotland later this year. At last year's Cannes Film Festival, actor-writer-director Matthew Butler shopped his short E'Gad, Zombies! to find financing for a feature-length version. Aiding him in his search was Sir Ian McKellen, who narrated and appeared in the 22-minute movie set in 18th-Century England. At the time, director David O. Russell was busy adapting Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but the project, which recently hired Fright Night remake director Craig Gillespie, still has no cast attached.
A year later, Butler's hard work has paid off, as Screen Daily reports that Dame Judi Dench and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) have joined the cast of the production, which is now titled The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet.
Like E'Gad, Zombies!, the plot of The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet remains the same — a seaside town finds itself the victim of a deadly illness. Butler co-wrote the movie with Tori Hart; both are also serving as producers.

Titles can be everything, and The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet is possibly the most eye-catching film title I've seen this week. But is it the best title for a zombie movie, especially one that stars Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, and Gillian Anderson? That I can't say (even after seeing Judi Dench cameo as a sort of buxom almost-strumpet in Pirates of the Caribbean) but for a film that seems to be cut from the same cloth as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, one could probably do worse. Screen Daily [1] reports that Matthew Butler co-wrote the script with Tori Hart, and that he'll direct. He has already made a comedy short called E'gad Zombies, which also had Ian McKellen in the cast, and this feature will be an expansion of the short. All we know about this one so far is that the story features "inhabitants of a small seaside...

I am interested in anything zombie related so this sounds like it will be right up my alley. The cast is perfect for this period film. I am also interested in seeing Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

A short film by Matthew Butler, entitled E'gad Zombies , is poised to become a feature film that has a surprising cast. To be titled The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet , the film will star Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Gillian Anderson and Mark Williams. Set against the backdrop of a small town in 1713, an illness takes hold of the villagers turning them into unfeeling creatures who eat anything they can get there hands on.
