Philip Seymour Hoffman was truly one of Hollywood's most gifted performers, and when he died one year ago today, he left behind a notable void in the movie industry. Thankfully, one of the truly beautiful things about film is that it can be cherished and appreciated forever, always reminding us of the incredible beauty an artist can produce. That's why we are incredibly grateful to have this 22-minute supercut, highlighting some of the greatest moments in the dearly departed actor's career. This video, which was edited by Vimeo user Caleb Slain, was actually first created and posted online nearly a year ago - shortly after Philip Seymour Hoffman's passing - but now that it is the anniversary of the great actor's death, the clip has been circulating around the internet, reminding us of exactly what we lost. At the length of a 30-minute TV show without commercials, it's a...

Today marks exactly one year since the world of cinema suffered one of its greatest losses. Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of the most passionate, talented, energetic, visceral, versatile and prolific actors of his or any generation. For proof of the validity of these “labels,” as Riggan Thomson from “Birdman” would have put it, look no further than Vimeo user Caleb Slain’s epic 24-minute video tribute to Hoffman’s remarkable body of work. Slain apparently spent approximately two hundred hours putting together this tribute that uses footage from almost all of the films and TV shows that Hoffman ever appeared in during his two-plus decades as an actor, starting all the way back from his bit part in an early episode of "Law & Order." It should be a treat for fans to see glimpses of their own favorite Hoffman performances, along with turns that they personally find to be underrated.

Editor and filmmaker Caleb Slain was inspired to make "P.S. Hoffman," a moving 20-minute tribute to the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman. Watch below. Per Slain's description of the tribute, it took him 200 hours to condense Hoffman's 47 films into the piece. The result is effective, with Hoffman's varied and often profound performances edited together to form a cohesive whole. The Academy put Hoffman as the final name and face in their "In Memoriam" tribute at the 86th Oscars on Sunday, speaking to the devastating effect the actor's death has had on fans and the film community alike. Public memorials are set for this spring in both New York City and Hoffman's hometown of Rochester.

A little over a month ago, we lost Philip Seymour Hoffman. Eulogies have included essays, written remembrances of his best work, and — because it is 2014 — tweets. But the latest honoring of the late actor is perhaps the most telling of Hoffman’s impact on the world: Filmmaker Caleb Slain put together a 20-minute supercut of Hoffman’s best roles, including clips from The Master, Doubt, Boogie Nights, and Almost Famous, that shows his amazing range as an actor.
On the Vimeo page for the video, Slain writes that “200 hours of work went into breaking down 47 of Hoffman’s roles.” What...

At the Oscars on Sunday night, the annual Memoriam segment closed with Philip Seymour Hoffman, arguably the greatest loss to cinema to occur over the past year. In fact, watching his face for those few extra seconds before Bette Midler came out and poured "Wind Beneath My Wings" all over the moment, made us feel that pang of his passing all over again. It's hard to believe that there will be no more new movies starring Hoffman (though "A Most Wanted Man" and "God's Pocket" were completed before his death—and just played Sundance— while the filmmakers behind "The Hunger Games" are figuring out a workaround for the scenes he was unable to lens). So now is a time to look back, and thankfully, Hoffman left behind an enviable catalog of work. Caleb Slain has put together a pretty impressive 20-minute tribute reel, "P.S. Hoffman," that dives pretty deep...

This past weekend, The 86th Academy Awards said their farewell to Philip Seymour Hoffman by giving him the final In Memoriam card and holding on it for several seconds longer than the rest of the obituary reel. It's been over a month since the Oscar-winning actor passed away, and many of us still can't believe he's gone. Fellow Doubt star Amy Adams recently tearfully honored him on "Inside the Actors Studio," and now one final video tribute to the late actor has arrived. Clocking in at just over 20 minutes, this one includes everything, and it's still pretty damn tough to watch knowing that he really is gone. Watch below. Here's the video P.S. Hoffman: A Tribute from Caleb Slain (via SlashFilm): As you can see, the video truly spans Hoffman's impressive career. It begins with his guest appearance on "Law & Order" in 1991 and moves all the way through...

After Philip Seymour Hoffman's unexpected death last month, one thing was certain: we had lost one of the greatest actors of our time. At the 86th Oscars, I'm sure he was a lingering presence in the back of everyone's mind, a titan that embodied excellence in the art and craft of acting. Whether or not he was an addict or simply paying the price of disappearing into characters who had trouble living with themselves, it's not for us to prognosticate about his demons. Instead, watch the In-Depth tribute below and honor Hoffman's memory by reveling in his singular, irreplaceable skill. The tribute, skillfully edited by Caleb Slain, includes segments from all 47 of Hoffman's film. Slain put in over 200 hours of work and the result speaks for itself. P.S. Let’s take a look at a spare short film called Free Pie, for a change. Entirely conversation-based and set in a single location, but if you give the film a chance, you’ll find yourself absorbed in its rhythms and revelations. However, I’m not even sure this is a comedy. Directed by Caleb Slain, who has been internationally awarded for his vibrant use of evocative storytelling in both short films and commercials, Free Pie is described as ‘a traumatic comedy about life, death, pie and death with a terrifically witty but dark conversation with several humorous twists and turns.’ Slain’s short documentary It Ain’t Over was...

Check out this interesting dark comedy short film called Free Pie. It truly is hard to describe; it's very strange and full of awkward intense moments, which is what makes it so good. The short was directed by Caleb Slain, and it's described as "a traumatic comedy about life, death, pie and death." I'm not even sure this is a comedy-- the whole pie thing just throws you off and makes this intense conversation kind of funny. Watch the short for yourself and let us know whether you liked it or not!

Robert G. Putka‘s Mouthful and Jared Varava‘s Tumbleweed! are two short films that have been selected to screen at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival, which will run in Austin, TX on March 9-17.
Mouthful is Putka’s second short film, a verbally raunchy comedy starring Eilis Cahill and Conor Casey as a young couple whose relationship becomes strained thanks to an overly frank discussion about their sexual histories. The film was recently reviewed on Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film saying “one shouldn’t assume too much how the premise of a young man and woman discussing [male] anatomy will play out.”
Putka has also mounted an IndieGoGo campaign to help fund his filmmaking team’s trip to SXSW and for marketing material, such as posters, T-shirts, press kits and such. If you want to help out, please visit the Mouthful IndieGoGo page.
