Rebel Wilson opened up about what she was paid to do the Pitch Perfect movies and hinted at some behind-the-scenes drama over the franchise’s third movie.
The 44-year-old actress played Fat Amy in the series, which centered on the Barden Bellas a collegiate a cappella singing group. It also starred the likes of Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp and Ester Dean.
After being paid only $3,500 for her cameo in Bridesmaids, Rebel revealed the pay increase that she got for the first Pitch Perfect movie. However, that was nothing in comparison to her salary for the third movie.
Speaking of the third movie, Rebel hinted that it almost looked very different.

The verdict at this year’s CMA Awards is clear: The most important song and single of the year was first released 35 years ago. Luke Combs’ version of “Fast Car,” which reached Number Two on the Hot 100 this summer and became one of the unlikely blockbuster hits in any genre, took home the first two CMAs of the evening, for Song and Single of the year.

Last week, Tracy Chapman made country music history by becoming the first Black woman to be the sole songwriter of a Number One country hit when Luke Combs’ cover of her 1988 song “Fast Car” topped the charts.
While celebratory — “I never expected to find myself on the country charts, but I’m honored to be there,” Chapman said — the milestone was also a stark reminder of the historical precarity and lack of opportunities for Black women as songwriters in Nashville: Chapman is just one of a small group of Black...

Tracy Chapman has become the first Black woman in history to have the sole songwriting credit on a No. 1 country hit, thanks to Luke Combs’ cover of her 1988 song “Fast Car.” It currently sits atop Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (dated July 8th).
As Rolling Stone notes, Chapman is only the fourth Black woman to have any writing credit on a No. 1 country song. She joins the club currently occupied by Alice Randall, who co-wrote Trisha Yearwood’s 1994 single “XXX’s and Ooo’s (An American Girl)”; Ester Dean, who co-wrote Lady A’s “Champagne Night” in 2020; and Tayla Parx, who co-wrote Dan+Shay’s 2021 song “Glad You Exist.”
Combs’ version of “Fast Car” is the second single from his latest album, Gettin’ Old. Earlier this month, it rose from No. 8 to No. 4 on the Hot 100, surpassing the No. 6 peak of Chapman’s original, which Combs said was his “first favorite song probably ever.

How are we supposed to live without Michael Bolton? “American Song Contest” doesn’t have to answer that question just yet, as Connecticut-based Bolton and his song “Beautiful World” could still place next week through a combination of votes through fans and jurors.
But the early lead on night one of NBC’s U.S. take on the Eurovision Song Contest went to Rhode Island’s Hueston, wearing his heart on his sleeve with the tear-jerker “Held on Too Long.” Hueston most impressed the 56-member juror panel — which includes iHeartMedia chief programming officer/president Tom Poleman, Klos host and former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield and artist/songwriter/producer Ester Dean. He was the first from this group to qualify to move on from this round.

If Katy Perry‘s “Firework” is your go-to karaoke song, you may want to pay attention to this article. As it turns out, loads of fans have been singing the lyrics wrong since the tune was first released in 2010. As Katy explains during the March 6 episode of “American Idol,” the words that follow “Make ’em go” are not “Up, Up, Up” or “Uh, Uh, Uh.”
Instead — are you ready for this? — the lyrics are “Awe, Awe, Awe.” That actually … makes sense!

Katy’s declaration comes when her co-judge Luke Bryan is chatting with Katy and Lionel Richie in between auditions of ABC’s reality TV show. “There are some habits that are throwing me a little bit,” Luke notes. “It’s just that over-exaggerated [singing].” The country superstar belts out brief moments of “Happy Birthday” and Hank Williams to emphasize his point,...

Our lives would suck without Kelly Clarkson. The pop singer known for her powerful pipes was introduced to us in the first season of “American Idol” on Fox in 2002, launching a career that spans the 21st century. She won that competition, but what are the best songs she has recorded since then? Scroll down to see how we rank her greatest hits. Do you agree with our pick for her number-one song of all time?
In the years since Clarkson’s “Idol” coronation, the show has been inconsistent in delivering artists with lasting music careers, though standouts like Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson have also stood the test of time. Clarkson was actually the first “Idol” alum to win a Grammy, claiming Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (“Since U Been Gone”) and Best Pop Album (“Breakaway”) in 2006. She also claimed Best Pop Album for “Stronger” in 2013. And that album’s...

Ciara showed her support for Black Lives Matter in her latest music video for “Rooted,” featuring guest vocals from singer Ester Dean.
The visual features plenty of impressive dance moves — a trademark of a Ciara video, even though the pop star herself, who was pregnant at the time of filming, had to resort to posing instead. Both the song and video for “Rooted” also include many references to the Black Power movement and Black Lives Matter, with T-shirts and signs in tribute to Breonna Taylor and Eric Garner.

Shane McAnally is a big advocate of finding a crew. When he arrived in Nashville as a struggling songwriter years ago, the Texas native banded together with several other writers, and he championed them through the music industry after his own fortunes began to improve. As he puts it: “My domino fell first of the group.

With the season two finale of NBC’s “Songland” just hours away, hitmaker and star mentor Ester Dean is not ready to say goodbye to her Monday night showcase. “I want to do more TV,” she says. “I love TV, and if TV coincides with my songwriting, I don’t have to give up one kid for the others. So I would love to do more. I want to be Oprah. At the end of the day, that’s my goal. … I mean, Kelly Clarkson is doing exactly how I want to do it. She’s amazing.””
Needless to say, Dean would be ecstatic if “Songland,” the show which co-stars Ryan Tedder and Shane McAnally as a panel of songwriters, mentors and producers there to find the best undiscovered writing talents, were picked up for a third season. After charting several No. 1 hits on iTunes, clearly people are listening, and artists like Luis Fonsi,...

“The Voice” finale will showcase the Top 5 singing live for America’s votes on Monday, May 18. Each of the five finalists — Thunderstorm Artis, CammWess, Toneisha Harris, Micah Iverson and Todd Tilghman — will get three chances to sing on the two-hour show. They will do covers and original tunes as well as duet with their coaches.
In this final round of the season 18 competition, the coaches are not evenly matched. Blake Shelton, who has won six of the first 17 seasons of “The Voice,” still has two artists in contention, including the last woman standing. The other three coaches — reigning champ Kelly Clarkson (she’s won three of her four seasons to date), one-time winner John Legend and rookie Nick Jonas — have one apiece.

Monday night’s winning “Wrong Places,” from former “Voice” contestant (and star of the Kevin Smith film “Jersey Girl”) Raquel Castro’s winning collaboration and recorded by H.E.R, is already at No. 2 on the R&b Soul chart and No. 3 overall.

“This is a total step up,” Ryan Tedder says of the impending return of “Songland” on NBC April 13. “It’s like ‘The Office’ Season 2 versus ‘The Office’ Season 1. You figure out what you’re doing. You figure out what the characters are.”
