With the news that MTV canceled "The City," fans have already expressed that they'll miss our favorite Elle employee, Erin Kaplan. We've already heard from Whitney Port, but now Kaplan exclusively tells Zap2it her thoughts on the show's demise.
"I was a little surprised that it didn't get picked up," Kaplan, 27, the youngest PR director in Elle's 25 years of fashion coverage, tells us. "I thought it would have run for one more season."
While Kaplan thought the series could have another season in it, she's setting her sights to the future.
"It was such a great experience, though," she says. "And to have the opportunity to work with everyone involved was incredible. I learned so much and am excited for whatever comes next."
Fans will definitely miss the behind-the-scenes look Kaplan gave us at one of the top fashion magazines in the business, but we'll also certainly miss the always entertaining,...

It's pretty easy to mistake fake celebrity Twitter accounts for real ones. Sure, many get verified by Twitter, but there are many that don't. "90210" star, Shenae Grimes, has been very vocal about being denied account verification at least twice by Twitter.
And mistakes happen. Just this past week, The Teen Choice Awards mistakenly linked to a fake Twitter account for "The Vampire Diaries" star Paul Wesley. Before long the fake account had more than 10,000 followers!
This week, though, we were shocked when Elle Magazine was duped by a fake Twitter account for its own editor-in-chief, Robbie Myers, then tried to sweep it under the rug.
On Monday (August 2) Creative director, Joe Zee (who you may recognize from MTV's "The City"), was the first to tweet a response to the fake account after the person behind it tweeted hello to him.
After that, the news spread like wildfire. It was retweeted by fans,...

Breaking up is never easy. Especially when it's with your best friend.
Whitney Port and Roxy Olin have been on the outs ever since the former blamed the latter for ruining a recent fashion opportunity. Now the separation has commenced.
That's essentially what happened last night on The City, when Roxy's father, actor Ken Olin of Thirtysomething and Brothers & Sisters fame, refused to lend her some money.
After a huge backstage fight that Kelly Cutrone had to break up, Whitney was surprised to come home and see her old friend packed and ready to leave her apartment.
New York rent is, like, really expensive.
Incredibly, MTV cameras were there to capture this pensive moment.
“I had no idea you were leaving so soon,” Whit says, and it's hard to tell if she's sad, relieved or a little of each (follow this link for a comprehensive recap of The City).

Listen up City fans! Roxy Olin tells us why she can’t stand her co-star Olivia Palermo!
Roxy Olin is Not BFFs with Olivia Palermo when not being filmed! We interviewed The City star July 1, to get the real deal on MTV’s hit reality show! Obviously we had to ask her right off the bat … are you friends with Olivia, even just a little?
“No, no, no, we are not friends!” she tells us adamantly.
Roxy, true to her candid and out-spoken personality, explains the rocky relationship.
“What you see is how she is. Olivia is very cold to us, me and her clash. I don’t like the way she treats others,” says Roxy. “I really don’t like her.”
But it wasn’t all total dislike for Olivia, Roxy did admit, “She has the ultimate style.”

Last night on The City, Whitney Port received a fright courtesy of the stage, as the title implies, only she was not on it. Rather, Canadian musician Lights that delivered the horror.
Roxy Olin was tasked with getting lights to don some Whitney Eve clothes on stage, but only succeeded in getting her into a jacket, which she dropped to the floor within seconds.
This resulted in a huge fight between the co-workers and friends, who have been at odds for weeks as it is, with Whitney suggesting that Roxy just can't handle it professionally.
A realization you just had, Whitney? We've been saying this for weeks! It's almost as if friends of yours cast on reality shows can't be trusted with serious fashion responsibilities.
Whitney and Roxy's slowly-building conflict boiled over last night.

Sometimes we struggle to care about The City, because unless you're interested in working in fashion, it can be a touch dull, but you have to give the show its due.
Unlike The Hills, which features a lame crew of catty brats starting arguments about who knows what at clubs, The City girls are at least ostensibly career-focused.
Whether those careers are in reality TV or fashion remains to be seen, but the interactions seem real and the professional struggles compelling, if a bit redundant.
In Tuesday's episode, Olivia Palermo battled Erin Kaplan at Elle, again, while pulling together a photo shoot for singer Ke$ha (see The City recap here for more).
Whitney Port's fashion line had its ups and downs last night.
Erin thought Olivia was taking undue credit for pulling off the shoot surprisingly well, while Olivia accused her supervisor of trying to replace her with Louise Roe.

At the end of last week's June 15 episode of "The City," it seemed that Erin Kaplan's new Elle.com hire, Louise Roe, was getting along with Olivia Palermo just fine. We're thinking that's not what Erin had in mind when she brought Louise on board.
Of course, Olivia got along fine with Whitney Port in the beginning as well, and we all know how that ended. So will Louise and Olivia continue to work together peacefully?
"That's where I say you'll just have to watch and find out," Louise Roe tells Zap2it, choosing her words very carefully. "Here's what I will say. Olivia has always been nothing but polite and pleasant to my face."
Of course, Olivia is a hot topic for every cast member on the show - everyone from Whitney to Erin has clashed with her. "I mean, she's got the most incredible style. That's me...

If last week's episode of The City was a reality check for our career girls, this week's marked a redemption of sorts ... even for the much-maligned Olivia Palermo.
The City recap has all the details, but here's a brief review ...
Astonishingly, Olivia was able to stomach doing some actual work and scored an interview with Zac Posen for Elle, which she boasted that she'd be able to do.
Of course, she has set the bar so low that doing what she is paid to do - the definition of a job - has become an anomaly, something worthy of great praise.
To say nothing of the fact that she already knew Zac Posen. Because Olivia Palermo is not a real career-climbing young woman, you see. She is a socialite.
Whitney Port reacts in typical Whitney Port fashion.
This is where the show drives us nuts. As cool as so many elements of it are,...

Did you catch all the craziness on MTV last night? In case you missed a second of the drama, I’m here to give you the inside scoop on Kristin, Audrina and Olivia Palermo of course!
Hey BFFs! It’s Toby, and I’m back with more dish on this week’s episodes of The Hills and The City! It was so funny seeing Kristin Cavallari manipulate Brody Jenner’s new babe, McKaela and Audrina Patridge desperately trying to end things with her boy-toy, Ryan Cabrera. Things only got more heated after Audrina paid a visit to her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bobby. Audrina, are you really going back to him already?
Things got pretty intense on The City , too! Olivia Palermo missed Yet Another one of her interviews and Erin Kaplan was not thrilled to say the least! She is trying to replace flaky Olivia with Louise Roe.

As reality shows go, The City was actually fairly realistic last night, as three of our heroines were openly chastised for being inept at their jobs, or at least not meeting expectations.
In this regard, it can be a compelling program in ways The Hills couldn't imagine. Sure, certain situations are highly edited and unrealistic. But there are layers of cold, hard truth.
Is Whitney Port a fashion designer with a reality TV show on the side, or a no-talent reality star trying to make it in high fashion? The line is frequently blurred, the question loaded.
Last night, she sure looked to be the latter, as Anne Slowey slapped her around (figuratively) at Elle. Basically, Whit was told her fashion collection had all been done before.
For a designer, that's as big a put-down as they come.
Roxy Olin wears her typically confused expression.

The City was pretty intense too! Whitney Port and Roxy Olin are no longer BFFs And Elle’s Erin Kaplan is totally trying to sabotage Olivia Palermo!

New betrayals and new alliances add up to 12 all-new episodes of fashion industry adventure in The City. Join Whitney Port, Roxy Olin, Olivia Palermo and Erin Kaplan for the second season of the hit spin-off series which returns to MTV this month. Originally a regular in America's hit unreality show The Hills, Whitney Port got her own spin-off series after leaving Los Angeles behind for the cut-throat world of New York fashion.

Oft-maligned Elle editorial mainstay Erin Kaplan got the last laugh, and rightfully so, on last night's The City. Meanwhile, Whitney Port blurred the lines of business and pleasure.
In "Queen of Diamonds," Olivia Palermo totally thought she was. Elle boss Joe Zee somehow considered her ability to pick out jewels for Fergie's cover shoot some amazing skill.
It wasn't. Erin made the correct call when she said the cover image should not include any of the diamonds Olivia selected for the pop singer to wear. Joe finally agreed with her.
Amazing that it's taken this long for Erin to win one of her weekly clashes with Olivia, and be praised for it no less. Olivia finally taking some lumps? What is this, like a real job?
Erin Kaplan had reason to smile at the end of last night's episode.
Meanwhile, stylista Whitney Port was readying for her look book presentation...

If we hadn't been madly in love with "The City" and "Kell on Earth" PR guru Kelly Cutrone before today -- which we were -- this video would definitely seal the deal. As we've seen from preview clips, Whitney Port's claws come out in tonight's (May 11) episode of "The City."
Though Whitney's usually a gentle soul, Olivia Palermo crosses the line when she causes some commotion with Whit's promotion. Whitney isn't having it. Finally.
We're not the only ones completely delighted by this turn of events. Cutrone, along with her employees, sidekicks, and "Kell on Earth" co-stars Andrew Mukamal and Stefanie Skinner, decided to throw some support Whitney's way. In the video below, they all sing along to '90s classic "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks.
"Say it," Kelly says. "I want my f***ing..."
"MTV!" Skinner and Mukamal chime in.
"Tonight we are on Team Whitney, who finally shows her inner b****!" Cutrone adds.

Whitney Port may be the leading lady of "The City," but she's not exactly known for having a backbone. It takes a lot for her to get upset on her own behalf, but it looks like Olivia Palermo has found her breaking point.
"She's such a little b****," Whitney sighs after realizing the truth about Olivia's refusal to support her clothing line, Whitney Eve. In the May 4 episode, Whitney was led to believe that Olivia had nominated her for a feature on RueLaLa.com, when it was actually Olivia's co-worker, Erin Kaplan.
"She went to the editor preview and she brought your lookbook back," Erin says, "She didn't say favorable things about it."
Kelly Cutrone is even more furious than Whitney is. "Who gives a f*** about her f***ing opinion?" she rages. "I really -- f***, who gives a f***? No, she's dead! She is f***ing dead! I'm...

During the first season of "The City," it was hard not to feel sorry for Erin Kaplan as we watched her go about her business at Elle. She suffered long work days alongside Olivia Palermo, who was constantly in boss Joe Zee's favor despite her apparent refusal to complete her tasks.
Kaplan, however, is quick to assure us that her co-star hasn't affected her day-to-day life at work as much as it may seem.
"My actual job at Elle hasn't changed at all, it's just kind of doing another job on top of that when we're filming," she tells Zap2it. "I'm making sure that I deliver on everything that I did before the show."
In fact, Palermo isn't around the Elle offices all that much. Though she's frequently featured on Elle.com in red-carpet photos, we'd be hard-pressed to find a piece she worked on as an editor,...

In the May 4 episode of "The City," Olivia Palermo criticized Whitney Port's fashion line, Whitney Eve, as being "all-over-the-place." She decided not to include it in any Elle.com features. Lucky for Whitney, Erin Kaplan went right over Olivia's head to Joe Zee to make sure Whitney got a spot in a RueLaLa feature on young designers.
Whitney has been cultivating her designing skills since her early days of making exaggerated faces at Lauren Conrad while they interned at Teen Vogue. Now, she's got Kelly Cutrone and People's Revolution behind her. We were sure that Cutrone wouldn't get behind an undeserving collection, so we decided to check out the clothes for ourselves instead of taking Olivia's word for it.

Every good reality show needs its villain, and Olivia Palermo is doing a wonderful job of filling those shoes in this clip from "The City," courtesy of our good friends at the Los Angeles Times' Show Tracker. Now that she's working for Elle.com instead of as an accessories editor, Olivia intends to blacklist Whitney Port's new line, Whitney Eve, from the site -- despite Erin Kaplan's suggestions.
Olivia says that the line is unfocused. "There's not like a theme, it's sort of all over the place," she says. We're sure that Olivia has a great eye for fashion, but when we saw the Whitney Eve line on the runway in the April 27 episode, it looked consistent to us! Plus, there's no way that Olivia knows better than Kelly Cutrone.
Whitney may get a break from Elle.com after all, though. Later on in the episode, Whitney learns...

The City's second season began last night on MTV with "Show 'Em What You Got." What did the gang show us? More of the same ... but that's more than adequate.
Unlike The Hills, The City actually shows its cast members, y'know, doing stuff, rather than parading around and existing solely for the sake of being on The Hills.
Well, at least that's true of Whitney Port, if not the whole cast.
While there is still the mystery of what the heck Roxy Olin (of Brothers & Sisters quasi-fame) is doing there at all, the other three girls are focused on their careers.
As in actual careers ... not just getting paid to party. Crazy.
Whitney preps for her big fashion show. Roxy was also there.
Last night's season premiere of The City showed that a once relationship-heavy and altogether boring show has at least established a newfound, unique identity.

After a moment of silence to honor designer Alexander McQueen, we noticed Elle Magazine’s Creative Director, Joe Zee was sitting front row with his right-hand woman, Olivia Palermo — although our favorite girl Erin Kaplan was nowhere in sight! Before Kelly Cutrone was a reality TV star, she made her name as one of the most eccentric — and most feared — publicists in the fashion industry. And her new Bravo show Kell On Earth premieres tonight!!
But whether she is chastising Whitney Port and Roxy Olin on MTV’s The City or barking at waiters in restaurants, Kelly is one tough cookie.
“I have a reputation for being this total [bleep],” she admits to New York magazine. “I’m a really easy person to hate.”
She says TV characters “are just iconic representations of aspects of ourselves. You have to be a blank slate and let people project what they will.”
Well, Kelly we Love to hate you (even though we don’t really hate you … we’re just scared!) Will you tune to see her on Bravo’s upcoming Kell On Earth?

MTV closes the books on "The City" for the season Tuesday night -- and from the looks of things, the book may be about to close on controversy magnet Olivia Palermo too.
Or so we're to believe, anyway. The not-quite-scripted show lives for the kind of conflict like what's in the video below (courtesy of the La Times Showtracker), where Olivia's boss at Elle, Erin Kaplan, calls out her lack of preparation for a "Today" show segment to stylist Joe Zee. Take a look:
Show of hands, everyone who thinks Olivia will skate through somehow? Thought so.
The season finale of "The City" airs at 10:30 p.m Et Tuesday (right after "The Hills" finale).

And you thought your job was bad. On the next episode of The City, the tension mounts between star Olivia Palermo and her colleague, Elle's PR Director Erin Kaplan, over wardrobe for a television shoot. After the two women disagree, Erin makes an executive decision to send some of the clothes back. "I know what the producers want," she says. "I've done more than my share of segments for TV." A visibly annoyed Olivia confronts her colleague for speaking to her dismissively. "Erin," she asks, "would you talk to [Creative Director] Joe [Zee] in the tone that you talk to me?" Not everyone gets along with Olivia Palermo, including former Diane von Fürstenberg co-worker Whitney Port and current Elle colleague Erin Kaplan. Fellow mean girl Kelly Cutrone, Port's boss on "The City," seems to understand Olivia's iciness — but that doesn't mean she couldn't take her in a catfight.
"Olivia Palermo, well, I don't know if I'll be crossing paths with her," she told MTV News. "If I did, I think I would win."
Cutrone said Port's frienemy is surprisingly sensitive. "Have I met her? Yes, I have met her. What is my feeling about her? I haven't hung out with her lately," Cutrone said. "I think she is slightly misunderstood. But I think that she's also a very sensitive person that may escalate at times."
Regardless of Palermo's good or bad attributes,...
