We'd like to forget all about the last attempt at a live-action Masters of The Universe movie. Sorry, Dolph! Great hair, though.
Welcome back to another edition of Fantasy Fridays, where two real-life best friends (Jeremy Scully and I, Mario-Francisco Robles) get together to cast/pitch our dream movies.
In the past, we've tackled everything from The Batman to the Universal Monsters.
This week, we turn our attention towards the long-gestating cinematic reboot of Masters of The Universe. Jeremy and I grew up on the classic 80s cartoon, and I had a ton of the old action figures. Yet even we knew, as children, that the 1987 movie starring Dolph Lundgren was crap. That's why we'd like to put our own spin on what the reboot should look/feel like.
Over the years, many filmmakers and various studios have tried and failed to get a Masters of The Universe movie off of the ground.

Dan Black has leant his songwriting genius to the likes of Kid Cudi, Imogen Heap and Mikky Ekko, but it's the words he's penned -- and sung -- himself that are once again front and center.
Black's breakout hit "Hearts" features Kelis, which makes sense given that he and the "Milkshake" singer wrote the track together. "She rang and I heard that she wanted to write with me, just some stuff for her," Black said from Paris in a recent interview. "She was in Spain, so I flew out to Spain. She had rented out a place just down the beach, and it was super low-key. We just sat in her living room with a laptop and a microphone and weirdly wrote a lot of stuff. One of the tracks we wrote was 'Hearts,' and I sort of thought, 'Wow, that would work great for me.' So at the end,...

Anybody got a cigarette? Looks like last week’s feint of an episode wasn’t just playing possum up to its knockout final act –it was setting up for a full-blown Mad Men clinic, one full of doppelgangers, secret affairs, and Don earning his 10th Dan black belt in office asshole martial arts. “The Quality of Mercy” has the temerity to show Ken getting shot in the face in the first act, and then decide, eh, let’s check in on Megan and Don for 15 minutes before getting back to that. Hell, even AMC decided to twist the cocaine-laced knife of excitement, by cutting and scoring the “Next Time On” like it should have been for Breaking Bad. It didn’t even have any actual footage from next week, but proved to be an appropriately white-knuckle tease, given the lightning-fast pace of the preceding hour. If I didn’t know any better,...

We're approaching the longest days of the year, folks, and you'll need summer jams to fill those days. Add Dan Black and Kelis' "Hearts" to that playlist, why don't you? The music video to the uplifting tune is a time lapse from a roof, with minimal movements to maximum effect. Gorgeous and hip-moving, I think this will for sure make my rotation. The song was co-written by the two artists, and will be featured on Black as-yet-untitled sophomore album, due sometime this year. Get More: www.mtvu.com ...

The Skins gang return in style on Monday 23rd January at 10pm on E4, burning their way through a holiday in Morocco.
But what begins as a hedonistic fortnight before their return to college turns into a living hell. By the time they return to Bristol everything has changed.
Friendships fall apart whilst complicated and toxic relationships begin. And there are strangers in the mix who could either save or destroy them...
Franky (Dakota Blue Richards) goes through a sexual awakening that unleashes a wild and unpredictable side to her when she meets Luke (Joe Cole).
In Franky's wake trails Matty (Sebastian De Souza), deeply in love and about to get himself into even deeper trouble. Meanwhile Nick (Sean Teale) slowly begins to realise just what his brother sees in Franky.
Grace (Jessica Sula) and Rich (Alexander Arnold) are closer than ever, but the future holds something unexpected in store for them.

January might not be the most welcoming month - it's all a bit chilly and grey. So it's just as well that staying in is a pretty attractive option with all the fabulous television that's coming up. One of our most-anticipated returns has to be series six of Skins, of course. So when we got our hands on these brand new and beautiful promo photos, we couldn't wait to share them with you! Aren't they gorgeous? As well as seeing our favourites from series five, it's also our first chance to get a proper glimpse at newbie Sam Jackson, who's joining the cast as Alex. Exciting, right? We're also getting return guest appearances from Chris Addison, Giles Thomas, John Sessions, Clare Grogan, Dan Black and Josie Long - while new stars popping up (more)...

It’s fair to say that like virtually every fan of Edm this year, Kaskade, dance music’s King of Cool, was moved by Eminem and Diddy-Dirty Money collaborator Skylar Grey. Dirty South’s remix of "I’m Coming Home" is easily one of the most popular house anthems of 2011, so we were delighted to hear Grey featured on Kaskade’s new track, “Room for Happiness,” one the songs on the famed DJ-producer’s highly anticipated double album, Fire and Ice, which drops October 25.
“I’m a huge fan of her voice,” Kaskade recently said. “I just said, 'You know what, I think your voice will work really well with dance music.'”
And guess what, Kaskade fans? When he first reached out to Grey, he was pleasantly surprised to hear that Grey was already a fan of his music!

Was Lavo New York ready to do the Dada this morning? As regularly is the case for New York's most exclusive nightclub, by midnight, beauties and ballers alike had amassed in front of gatekeeper Cristian Achirili's door in pursuit of bottles and big-tune bangers. Whether they had planned on it or not, dance-music DJ/producers Dada Life ended up driving models and city tycoons to tear the roof off of the Strategic Group's New York dance-music mecca — almost literally.
As you can see from the photo, Dada's Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom were welcomed with open arms even before they took to the decks with silver glittered "Dada Life" letters firmly affixed to the ceiling. That changed very quickly ...

Sketch Pad Black + Blum offers the grown-up answer to the lunch box.
Anyone can put a sandwich in a baggie. But try packing a full-course meal, and you'll be lugging around a drawer's worth of Tupperware. "The Japanese solved that problem with Bento boxes," says Dan Black, who co-owns the London-based design firm Black + Blum. Yet, as of mid-2009, there wasn't an equivalent solution in America. So Black and partner Martin Blum set out to create one.
Although the name of the final two-piece product, "Lunch Pot," had to be straightforward enough to appeal to an international market, the team got playful by inscribing the rim with food-loving quotes, such as George Bernard Shaw's, "There is no sincerer love than the love of food." Here, we track the creation of the product. ($22, black-blum.com)
[1] Black + Blum's first next-gen lunch tote, the Bento Box, sold 100,000 units within nine months of its May 2010 launch.

The Black Keys tasted their first No. 1 single with "Tighten Up", the lead offering of their latest studio album "Brothers". The song blends a commanding sound of drumbeat and whistle-laden melody, arousing listeners' curiosity while staying true to the signature stripped sound of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney.
Coming from the production hands of acclaimed music maker Danger Mouse, "Tighten Up" ruled both Billboard Rock and Alternative Songs Charts. On top of that, its music video won Breakthrough Video at 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, beating Dan Black, Coldplay and Gorillaz.
Aside from getting help from Danger Mouse in "Tighten Up", they were mostly on their own when working on the remaining tracks of "Brothers". They crafted more intensely-focused, deeply-soulful set at the legendary Muscle Shoals studio in Alabama, and dropped it in May this year. It debuted at No. 3 on Billboard Hot 200 with 73,000 copies sold in its opening week, marking...

Converse is one of those rare brands that not only retains it's cool but seems to accrue more of it. Everyone loves Chucks. I wear mine in the city, on the farm, shit I even wear some to the beach. Low tops, no socks.
Converse's ongoing music branding campaign seems to be working out well and it makes sense -- people already identify those scrappy shoes with musicians and artists, young and old, hip or square. I don't know what the working conditions are like in China where my shoe are put together but I choose to believe they're just dandy. Hey those workers probably get free Chucks! I like the idea behind this new Converse recording studio in Brooklyn too, called Rubber Tracks. The company line is that it "will provide emerging artists with the incredible opportunity to record music in a high-quality studio alongside a team of experienced local engineers at no cost.

Black Eyed Peas' name accidentally ended up on band's Breakthrough Video Vma.

The Black Keys' incorrectly labeled 2010 Vma

You might not have been aware of it — considering the award wasn't handed out during the telecast — but the Black Keys' "Tighten Up" won Breakthrough Video at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, besting the likes of Coldplay, Dan Black and the Gorillaz.
Or, at least that's what the Keys thought. Because last week, when they actually received their Moonman, it wasn't their name on the trophy; it was the Black Eyed Peas', who apparently won Breakthrough Video without even being nominated in the category.
Confused — or, at least, amused by the whole situation — the Black Keys posted a pic of the award on their website, adding that they were "super proud of Fergie." Drummer Patrick Carney even joked on Twitter that he...

If Austin City Limits music fest had suddenly picked up this year and moved to Europe, not that it ever would, it might have been difficult to pull off The Best Celebrity Photobomb Of All Time, starring Bwe‘s new favorite person Dan Black, a British electronica artist based in Paris. But some music fans here are just discovering Dan, thanks in part to a collaboration with Kid Cudi, a 2010 MTV Vma nomination, and a spot at Lollapalooza. So even though Dan is as tall as a b-ball player, exudes rock star coolness, and had just finished playing a set in front of thousands (above), we were able to slip into the crowd undetected, where we proceeded to do us some serious photobombing under the guise of snapping festival fashion pics. Sorry, Acl people! You just got punked! But in the best way possible, right? Here are 10 pics of Dan Black...

Last night's MTV's Video Music Awards proved that it is totally irrelevant to music lovers. Perhaps that's not a news flash, perhaps I've been too easily entertained in the past, but the Vma's have finally degraded into complete worthlessness, a gratuitous celebrity hand job to the billboard pop stars. It's a culmination of the kind of self-serving, self-fulfilling, programming akin to Fox news. Hype tea baggers, focus coverage on tea baggers, break "news" that tea baggers are the new big shit.

Lady GaGa made another jaw-dropping performance. When taking the stage at the first day of 2010 Lollapalooza music festival on August 6, the dance queen who wore ragged fishnet stockings did a crowd-diving with Semi Precious Weapons' frontman Justin Tranter and locked lips with him.
GaGa invaded the stage when the band sang "Magnetic Baby" hours prior to her own full set. "If anyone calls Lady GaGa a pop star I'll f*cking kill them," Tranter said in an accompanying message of the picture taken by Last Nights Party from Chicago where the gig took place. "She is a rock star, and she is helping, Semi Precious Weapons, bring rockNroll back. RockNRoll is back bitches!"
To MTV, Tranter recalled, "She came to watch us perform. She stood on the side of the stage, and then during the song 'Magnetic Baby,' she started playing drums with Dan [Crean]. Then she started singing backup vocals,...

For an artist who has quickly made a habit of smashing records, Lady Gaga improbably did it again on Tuesday (August 2). She leaped past such career stars as "Telephone"/ "Video Phone" collaborator Beyoncé to set a new record for the most nominations in a single year for MTV's Video Music Awards, which air Sunday, September 12, at 9 p.m. Et. The Mother Monster racked up 13 nods, far outpacing the artists with the second-most nominations, a resurgent Eminem, who racked up eight. On her way to setting the record, Gaga also became the first female artist nominated for two different clips in the coveted Video of the Year category for "Bad Romance" and "Telephone."

Just last month Robyn’s Body Talk Pt 1 debuted at No. 1 in Sweden (her homeland), and Denmark. It entered Billboard’s Dance/Electronic chart at No. 3. The Times of London called “Dancing On My Own,” the album’s first single, “a digital torch song worthy of Confessions-era Madonna.”

If anyone can pick a pop culture winner it's the gays, right? Tonight at 10:00pm the Logo channel (our parent company) is airing the 2010 NewNowNext Awards. For those few people left on the planet who aren't familiar with them, these awards are about finding today what will be trending tomorrow. Last year around this time I got Owl City's debut album, and instantly knew I'd be hearing "Fireflies" Ad nauseam on radio stations all summer long. That song, while at first infectious, was admittedly a bit unoriginal. I'm kind of getting that vibe -- minus the unoriginal part -- about "Symphonies," the first track off UK soon-to-be sensation Dan Black's debut album Un. (That song's beat, by the way, is...

Plus sad Georgia prom news, Glenn Beck is crazy, Broadway cuteness, and what if Quentin Crisp had raised Liam Gallagher?
Sad update to the story of the gay high school student in Georgia who is being allowed to take his boyfriend to the prom: his parents kicked him out of the house for talking about it.
A South Carolina filmmaker is suing Showtime and Cinemax for showing not this “comedy” mocking Appalachia (where I live), but a soft-core film of the same title, causing him, as an elected official, great embarrassment. In a blatant attempt to get you to buy the dead-tree version of Entertainment Weekly, Spurf™ dishes that Katherine Heigl talks about Isaiah-gate in the story on her leaving Grey’s Anatomy.

Kid Cudi, best known for his hits "Day 'N Nite" and his "Poker Face"-sampling "Make Her Say," got a big one planted on his face when a male fan jumped on stage and kissed the rapper.
Kid Cudi joined British singer Dan Black at his Los Angeles show last week to perform the remix to his single, "Symphonies." But now a video, that's hit YouTube and blogs alike, shows an overzealous male fan jumping on stage and proceeding to kiss Cudi.

Cudi's reaction? "You gotta get off my stage," he's heard saying. While he leans back and tries to avoid the kiss, Cudi continued without disrupting the performance, while the male fan was escorted offstage by security.

Hip-hop star Kid Cudi was left stunned during a guest appearance at British singer Dan Black's concert in Los Angeles last week after a male fan jumped on stage and kissed him. The "Day N' Nite" hitmaker joined Black at his gig last Tuesday, February 23 to perform the remix to the pop star's track "Symphonies", but Cudi was taken by surprise when one overexcited concertgoer climbed on to the platform and planted a kiss on the rapper's cheek.

Jamie Burke playing with his new band, Delilah. From PatrickMcMullan.com. Hipsters in vintage concert tees and Buddy Holly glasses gathered at Wired magazine’s pop-up store in the Meatpacking District on Friday night to support Tck Tck Tck, an international campaign spearheaded by Kofi Annan to raise awareness about climate change and its dire effects on the poor in underdeveloped countries. Musical advocates for the campaign Mark Ronson, Jamie Burke, Theophilus London, and Dan Black performed for guests browsing the store’s offerings of high-tech gadgets and nifty knickknacks. This wasn’t the first time the four musicians have come together to support Tck Tck Tck. With more than 50 other musical names, the four performers recorded “Beds Are Burning,” the campaign’s official soundtrack and the world’s first musical petition.
