Carushka started designing at age two by cutting up her mother's
curtains and clothing to make doll clothes. Her formal training was at
the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles. She
worked for David Brown and Tori Richards winning awards. She went to
her sister, Dania Molthen's ballet classes to watch and decided the
dancers needed more attractive outfits. She designed the first stretch,
cotton leotard. In 1978 she started Carushka Bodywear. Her innovative
designs made her the forerunner in body wear. John Travolta wanted her
to design for him, this line was called Travoltawear. The first week in
stores his line sold out; but because of her failing health she
couldn't design both lines and let his line go. She was the designer on
both lines.
