Streaming exclusively on Screambox beginning today, Project Wolf Hunting is a hyper-violent South Korean genre bender that packs action, sci-fi, horror, and thriller aspects into a two-hour splatterfest of epic proportions.
It’s a wholly original production, but here are six movies that writer-director Kim Hong-Sun (The Chase) evokes with Project Wolf Hunting.
1. Con Air
Although the plots ultimately diverge in drastic ways, Project Wolf Hunting‘s basic premise echoes that of Con Air. The 1997 action thriller takes place on a maximum security transport plane that’s been hijacked by criminals in an effort to escape. Project Wolf Hunting transplants the action to a cargo ship, wherein convicts coordinate an escape attempt while being transported.
2. The Raid
Project Wolf Hunting‘s merciless violence brings to mind The Raid. While few movies live up to the 2011 Indonesian film’s revolutionary action set pieces, Project Wolf Hunting‘s bone-crunching brutality is supplemented by literal tons of gore.

Plot: Criminals from South Korea take control of the cargo ship that’s taking them back home from the Philippines… and then the genetic experiment that’s also on board gets loose. A bloodbath ensues.
Review: Writer/director Kim Hong-seon’s movie Project Wolf Hunting doesn’t have a great title – and the filmmakers were clearly aware of that, because when a character in the movie sees a folder with “Project Wolf Hunting” on it, their response is, “How tacky.” Apparently the literal translation of the South Korean production’s title in its home country would be Project Wolf Hunt or simply Wolf Hunt, both of which at least sound better than the English title the movie was given. That “ing” at the end does make a difference. But as cheesy as Project Wolf Hunting sounds, it’s a title we’re probably going to hear referenced quite often going forward,...

Set four years after events from The Outlaws (known as Crime City in Korea), new director Sang-yong Lee and screenwriter Min-Seong Kim bring Detective Ma Seok-do (Ma Dong-seok aka Don Lee) back with The Roundup (or Crime City 2). A standalone film with a couple characters returning via tongue-in-cheek reveals, you really don’t need to know anything beyond what we learn at the start. While Jeon Il-man (Gwi-hwa Choi) is the police captain, he knows it’s better to get out of his prized behemoth of a crime fighter’s way when things start to get out of hand. It’s better to focus on cleaning up the inevitable mess since Ma’s trail of destruction is happening regardless of his support.

“The Beast Cop is Back” proclaims the posters for The Roundup. And if you’re wondering who the Beast Cop is, where he went or if this is another sequel to WolfCop, we’re talking about Ma Seok-do. And this is a sequel, to 2017’s The Outlaws, don’t worry, it has a standalone plot but after seeing this you’ll probably want to go back and watch it anyway.
Ma Seok-do and his captain Jeon Il-man have been sent to Ho Chi Minh City to pick up a suspect for extradition. That would seem a simple assignment, right? There’s just one question. Why would a fugitive in a country that doesn’t have an extradition treaty with Korea turn himself in?
But it turns out someone else...
