Country-rock stalwarts Alabama have enlisted Old Dominion, Shenandoah, and more for June Jam Xviii, taking place June 1 at the Vfw Fairgrounds in Fort Payne, Alabama.
Alabama will close out the day, which will also feature performances from Lee Greenwood, Montgomery Gentry (featuring Eddie Montgomery), Mark Willis, Exile, John Berry, Taylor Hicks, the Malpass Brothers, and the Castellows. A special surprise guest — described only as a “hitmaking singer-songwriter” in a press release — will take the stage, too, though obviously no further details were given.
The June Jam Festival returned last year after a 26-year hiatus.

When rock and pop A-listers have needed a world-class country singer to sing on their song over the past few years, they usually call Chris Stapleton. Since his last album, 2020’s Starting Over, the 45 year-old traditionalist has duetted with Taylor Swift and Adele, written songs with Santana, and collaborated with Tom Morello and Pink. But that doesn’t mean he’s no longer a country centrist, having worked with everyone from Carly Pearce to Morgan Wallen to Willie Nelson.
Of all his recent famous collaborators, Adele feels like the most relevant model on Higher,...

Ashley McBryde flipped the script for her new album The Devil I Know. Set for release on Sept. 8, the newly announced record was created with the singer keeping in mind all of the loud opinions being tossed at her — but only so she knew which ones to completely ignore.
“‘Y’all are too country.’ We leaned into that – more country it is,” McBryde shared in a statement. “‘Y’all are awfully rock leaning for a country artist.’ Is that so? You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. ‘Last thing y’all need is another tender,...

On the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Brad Paisley has shared a new song, “Same Here,” which features a conversation between the country star and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The song isn’t explicitly about Ukraine or the ongoing war, but rather finds Paisley meditating on the similarities that link people around the world, despite ostensible cultural differences. Zelensky pops up in the final minute of the song, saying, “We speak different languages in our life, but I think we appreciate the same things — children, freedom, our flag,...

A year ago, country star Brad Paisley watched the news on television as Russian troops invaded Ukraine and, like many people around the world, he felt helpless at the images of people fleeing their homes.
“The world felt like it was in a new place that it hadn’t been in decades,” the three-time Grammy winner recalls.

On Friday, the one-year anniversary of the war’s start, Paisley is releasing a new song called “Same Here,” featuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy speaking proudly about his country and people.
The song is Paisley’s first from his new record, “Son of the Mountains,” to be released later this year on Universal Music Group Nashville.
The West Virginia native wrote the song with Lee Thomas Miller (co-writer on Paisley hits “The World” and “Perfect Storm”) and Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith.

A Thousand Horses charged out of the gate when they released their debut country single “Smoke” in 2015. The mid-tempo ballad about an addictive relationship climbed to Number One and teed up the band to be Nashville stars: they did TV, toured with Darius Rucker, played Bonnaroo. But just like the hit song’s title, that quick success dissolved in a wisp. The follow-up “(This Ain’t No) Drunk Dial,” another mid-tempo track, failed to ignite, and when the group finally did release something that showed them to be the rock...

Nashville songwriters turned out in force on Wednesday afternoon to escalate the fight against four music-streaming services on royalty rates. Earlier this year, Spotify, Amazon, Google and SiriusXM/Pandora announced they would appeal a 2018 ruling from the Copyright Royalty Board — the government body that sets royalty rates for statutory licenses — that would see publishers’ and songwriters’ cuts of revenue rise by 44% over the next five years. The four services have disputed the decision and asked for a lower rate increase, rankling the songwriting community, which is especially taking issue with Spotify’s involvement.

The night before President Trump signed the Music Modernization Act, a long-awaited bill that allows artists and publishers to earn royalties on recordings made before 1972 and helps songwriters and producers get paid more efficiently in the streaming era, 100 songwriters and lobbyists gathered at City Winery in Washington, D.C., to dance and celebrate. The main topic of discussion: Who would attend the signing ceremony the following day at the White House?
