The writer and director of slasher-comedy Freaky are reuniting for a brand new time-traveling slasher movie titled Time Cut, with Christopher Landon producing and Michael Kennedy writing the script alongside Hanna Macpherson (“Into the Dark”). MacPherson also directs Time Cut, which has been described as “Back to the Future meets Scream.”
We’ve learned today that Time Cut is coming to Netflix in 2024!
In the upcoming slasher, “A teenage girl travels back to the early 2000s to stop a vicious killer from murdering her sister.”
It sounds like this one is cut from the same cloth as Freaky, Happy Death Day, It’s a Wonderful Knife and Totally Killer, part of a new breed of horror-comedy-slasher hybrids.
Madison Bailey (Outer Banks) and Antonia Gentry (Ginny & Georgia) star alongside Michael Shanks, Griffin Gluck, Rachael Crawford, Jordan Pettle, Megan Best, Samuel Braun, Sydney Sabiston, and Kataem O’Connor.
Time Cut features a story by Michael Kennedy.

We are talking about the season finale of Cruel Summer, and assuming you are only here after watching it, you know what I am talking about. I knew it would be futile to predict what was going to happen in the end because Cruel Summer was always going to surprise us. But we went ahead because it was way too much fun, and in the end, I am glad that the show threw most of our wild theories in the trash and gave us something entirely unimaginable. Let us take a closer look one last time.

Lexi Underwood, Sadie Stanley, and Griffin Gluck in ‘Cruel Summer’ season 2 episode 9 (Freeform/Justine Yeung)
We’re down to the wire with just two episodes to go on the second season of Freeform’s Cruel Summer, and the suspense over what happened to Luke is incredibly intense. Season two episode nine, “The Miseducation of Luke Chambers,” takes place in the fall and winter of 1999 as well as early January 2000.
Luke (Griffin Gluck) sits down and watches home video of himself and Megan as kids, hanging out with their families in the woods. Later, Luke is lounging in the pool when his brother, Brent (Braeden De La Garza), tries to drown him. Thankfully, it’s just a joke. That leads to Luke, Brent, and Steve (Paul Adelstein) reminiscing about Luke’s mom.
The school year begins, and Megan (Sadie Stanley), Isabella (Lexi Underwood), and Luke hang out, having grown closer over the summer.

San Diego Comic-Con is going to be a little different this year. Many studios had already dropped out of presenting, including Marvel, Sony, HBO, Universal, and Netflix, and now that SAG-AFTRA has joined the WGA on the picket lines, you can pretty much kiss any panel involving writers or actors goodbye. The official Comic-Con schedule has been updated with a list of cancelled panels, which unfortunately includes Dune: Part Two, The Boys spin-off series Gen V, Amazon’s The Wheel of Time, Lionsgate’s upcoming The Strangers trilogy, and more.

As they clean, Luke confesses some of the party was a blur, especially toward the end of the night.

With the WGA currently picketing and a looming SAG-AFTRA strike already impacting San Diego Comic-Con with several film and TV companies, i.e. Marvel, Lucasfilm, Sony, Universal, Netflix skipping, Lord knows what a truncated and tamer Comic-Con is going to look like from July 19-23, especially after an explosive 2022 which repped the confab’s return to in-person after going dark for two years during Covid for 2020 and 2021. However, here’s a glimpse at the first 3-days. Some shows and movies have promised cast appearances, but that’s still Tbd given that the SAG-AFTRA contract expires on July 12, and actors aren’t permitted to promote their wares during a work stoppage. There are some big pieces of IP below, read the new Peacock John Wick spinoff series, The Continental and Paramount’s Seth Rogen produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, as well as Jamie Lee Curtis, Tj Miller and...

Sadie Stanley and Lexi Underwood in ‘Cruel Summer’ season 2 episode 6 (Freeform/Ricardo Hubbs)
Did season two episode six of Freeform’s Cruel Summer bring more answers or more questions? Given the previous five episodes, it’s unlikely we’ll get any real answers until the season finale. Episode six certainly didn’t do anything but muddy the water.
The key dates for “The Plunge” are:
July 30th, 1999
December 30th, 1999
December 30th, 2000
Summer of 1999
Isabella (Lexi Underwood) informs Megan (Sadie Stanley) that she broke up with Luke. She claims she couldn’t be with him anymore knowing that Megan likes him.
Megan plans a 17th birthday party at her house for Luke with the help of his brother, Brent (Braeden De La Garza). As she’s ordering him around, Brent urges her to relax. He leaves with the parting words, “Just trust me, this party is going to be something Luke will never forget.

[This story contains spoilers for Cruel Summer season two, episode five.]
Halfway through its second season, Cruel Summer’s murder mystery is heating up.
“It’s a huge bomb that’s dropped,” says showrunner Elle Triedman about the recently released episode five cliffhanger. “It just makes the characters — and I hope the audience — reexamine everything they thought they knew.”
Coming off the heels of a successful debut season, the Freeform anthology series reset itself for season two, introducing new characters (and a new cast), a new story and new setting to its audiences.
“There’s a lot of pressure,” Triedman tells The Hollywood Reporter of joining the series for its sophomore run. “The fans are fierce. They spend a lot of time; it’s kind of amazing, just reading their theories. They look at everything.”
With producer credits on shows like Revenge and Devious Maids, Triedman stepped in as showrunner and executive producer after the...

Summer is cruel, even in the winter. In episode five of season two of "Cruel Summer," Lexi Underwood's character Isabella's past has been a mystery all season thus far, and in a clip from the installment, which debuts on Monday, June 26, viewers finally get a little insight into who the diplomat's daughter was before coming to town.
"Cruel Summer" season two follows Isabella after she moves in with Megan and cozies up to Megan's best friend Luke. Their love triangle eventually turns deadly, and viewers are slowly piecing together just what exactly went wrong - and who was involved. In the clip, Isabella's "old friend" Trevor questions why he hasn't been able to get in touch with her. "I've been searching for you for months, clearly I should have looked at the mall. The second installment of Freeform’s “Cruel Summer” centers on an unfolding mystery tied to a “ride or die” bond shared between two best friends — themes star Sadie Stanley was more than ready to tackle in the next phase of her acting career.
“I wanted to venture into something a little bit more mature, a little bit darker [with] a little bit more grit to it — something for me to have some fun with,” Stanley, who got her start playing Kim Possible in several live action adaptations of the Disney series, told TheWrap. “‘Somewhere in Queens’ was like that for me, too,” Stanley added, referring to Ray Romano’s recently released drama. “It was exactly what I was looking for.”

Sadie Stanley and Lexi Underwood in ‘Cruel Summer’ season 2 episode 3 (Freeform / Ricardo Hubbs)
The dates of Freeform’s Cruel Summer season two episode three are July 19, 1999, December 19, 1999, and July 19, 2000. Which, of course, means the action takes place just one day after the events of episode two.
Summer of 1999:
Megan (Sadie Stanley) and Isabella (Lexi Underwood) are in the camper where Isabella’s staying as Isabella packs for a weekend getaway. Megan’s trying to talk Isabella out of going, making it sound like it’s just a guys trip (even though Megan’s going as well).
Later, the girls show up to the campout and Megan’s not pleased with seeing Luke (Griffin Gluck) and Isabella clinging on to each other. She’s also pissed she’s stuck unloading the car. Fortunately, Jeff (Nile Bullock) comes over to help, and it seems he might have a thing for Megan.

The Freeform drama’s Season 2 premiere on Monday introduced viewers to a complicated teenage love triangle between Megan (played by Sadie Stanley), Isabella (Lexi Underwood) and Luke (Griffin Gluck). Freeform’s Cruel Summer season two episode two begins the same way as episode one did, but this time the dates are July 18th, 1999, December 18th, 1999, and July 18th, 2000. Episode one took place on July 16th, December 15th, and July 16th.
Just to make it easier to follow the story, this recap’s going to split the action into three separate time periods instead of following the events in the order they aired. Jumping around in time periods is fine for the show but not super helpful when you’re reading a recap and trying to figure out who did what to whom and when.
The Summer of 1999:
Isabella (Lexi Underwood) writes a letter to Lisa, her best friend back home, about how messing with the people in this new town is going to be fun, but there is just one obstacle.

Although season one of Freeform’s Cruel Summer ended with a cliffhanger, season two focuses on new characters and a brand-new storyline. Limited series have become the equivalent of trial marriages for cable networks and streamers. When they don’t catch fire — or run hot initially only to smolder by season’s end – they complete their self-contained stories and disappear into the void. (It’s technically not a cancellation!) But when the audience falls in love with a limited series, networks are more than happy to extend the runway, even when doing so is narratively prohibitive.
Such is the case with Freeform’s “Cruel Summer,” the intelligent, twisty teen mystery that debuted in 2021 and became the most-watched series since the network’s 2016 rebrand. Technically, “Cruel Summer” wasn’t announced as a limited series, but it came to such a comprehensive conclusion that extending it after its wrapped up state would have reeked of desperation. After considering multiple options, including having the same ensemble return as new characters, the producers opted to anthologize the show,...

The first season of Cruel Summer was an unexpected hit for Freeform back in 2021 when it became the No. 1 new cable drama among women. The series had a great hook: the story was divided across three years, each visually distinct, following the same characters as their circumstances changed in relation to a central mystery.
In season one, that was the kidnapping of a popular girl. In season two of showrunner Elle Triedman‘s anthology series, the stakes have escalated to murder.
Just like before, the action involves two high school girls: risk-averse, straight A student Megan Landry (Sadie Stanley) and Isabella Larue (Lexi Underwood), the wealthy daughter of diplomats. The latter girl is essentially an exchange student who comes to stay with Megan and her family – mom Debbie (KaDee Strickland) and younger sister Lily (Jenna Lamb) – for a year in the small Pacific North West tourist town of Chatam.

It’s going to be a Cruel Summer for two new teenage girls in Season 2 of the Freeform anthology series, which returns with a two-hour premiere on Monday, June 5 at 9/8c.
Following the breakout hit’s first season, which starred Chiara Aurelia and Olivia Holt, it was unclear if the show would continue with their fan-fave characters, Jeanette and Kate, at the center of a new mystery, or if the cast would return to play new personas. Ultimately, the creative team opted to go the full-fledged anthology route, with a new ensemble and a fresh mystery for the second season.

It doesn’t matter of your idea of a Cruel Summer invokes Taylor Swift or Bananarama, there’s still a hot season’s worth of mystery to unpack in round 2 of Freeform‘s anthology hit. Like the 2021 edition, which bounced between three consecutive summers for its tale of a Texas teen who was abducted and her classmate who could have saved her, this new story also employs multiple timelines. Except here, we’re dropping into a trio of periods within a single calendar year at the end of the last millennium as small-town teen Megan (Sadie Stanley of The Goldbergs) and Isabella Larue, the transfer student spending senior year living with Megan’s blue-collar family, go from strangers to besties to possible murder suspects. Griffin Gluck (Locke & Key) costars as Luke, Megan’s childhood pal who instantly catches Isabelle’s eye. But this is not your usual “girls fighting over a guy” cliché-fest.

Unlike so many other ill-fated stabs at the anthology format, the second season of Cruel Summer counts on some rather distinct storytelling techniques, including frequent jumps between three different timelines. Each period is separated by mere months yet signifies a huge shift in the lives of its protagonists—often with the help of unmistakable fashion makeovers and ostentatious color filters. The result is another kitschy season of the Bert V. Royal series that’s nevertheless rewarding for its ambitious, unpredictable thrills.
The show’s first timeline is set in the summer of 1999, with studious 17-year-old Megan Landry (Sadie Stanley) dismayed at her mother Debbie’s (KaDee Strickland) decision to host exchange student Isabella Larue (Lexi Underwood), who was born in the United States but spent most of her life abroad. The new girl’s mysterious, globe-trotting history couldn’t be further removed from that of Megan, who’s from a...

Jessica Biel rose to stardom in the early 2000s-era of movies, starring in films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Stealth, Blade: Trinity, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, not to mention her time on hit series 7th Heaven. Now, the actress returns to that Y2K nostalgia as an executive producer of Freeform’s Cruel Summer, now in its second season.
“It just brought me back to my youth,” Biel told The Hollywood Reporter at the show’s season two Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday night. “It brought me back to being a young woman in Hollywood and a young woman trying to work through this business and the world at this time when technology was changing so much — fashion and music and everything. I think at the time, we didn’t realize how cool it was. But looking back now, I miss it so much.”

Cruel Summer returns as an anthology with a fresh mystery and cast when its highly anticipated second season premieres Monday, June 5th. Executive produced by Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple, the first season of Cruel Summer was a critical and ratings smash, making it Freeform’s most-watched series in network history.
Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the next chapter of Cruel Summer follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan (Sadie Stanley), Isabella (Eloise Payet) and Megan’s best friend Luke (Griffin Gluck), the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.
Other cast members include KaDee Strickland, Lisa Yamada, Sean Blakemore and Paul Adelstein.

It's been 10 years since "Private Practice" came to an end, but we have some good news for fans of the Oceanside Wellness crew: there's a mini reunion, of sorts, headed to Freeform. "Cruel Summer" is officially returning for season two on June 5, featuring a brand new storyline and fresh cast that will reunite KaDee Strickland ("Private Practice"'s Charlotte King), Paul Adelstein (Cooper Freedman), and Griffin Gluck (Mason Warner). As a refresher, Gluck played Adelstein's son on the show, and Strickland was Adelstein's wife and Gluck's stepmom. In "Cruel Summer," however, Strickland portrays Sadie Stanley's mom, Debbie Landry, while Gluck once again plays Adelstein's son, Luke Chambers.
Of reuniting with Adelstein and Gluck, Strickland tells Popsugar, "The three of us were so obnoxious in the beginning because we were reliving everything around everyone." Strickland reveals the crew put up a "really sweet image" of Adelstein and Gluck from their...

"Cruel Summer" Season 2 Is Full of Twists and Turns: "[Fans Will] Be Really Surprised by the Ending"
Nothing is quite as it seems in season two of "Cruel Summer." Freeform's breakout anthology series officially returns this summer with a new mystery and a fresh cast led by "Little Fires Everywhere" star Lexi Underwood, Disney's Sadie Stanley, and "Locke & Key"'s Griffin Gluck. Set in a small Pacific Northwest town, the second installment centers on a complicated love triangle between friends Megan Landry (Stanley), Isabella Larue (Underwood), and Luke Chambers (Gluck) and a mysterious incident that changes their lives forever.
"I don't want to spoil anything, but the mystery is going to be very hard to move on from," Stanley tells Popsugar. "The events that happen are life-changing. The stakes are really high this season." Though it follows a completely new storyline, similar to the first season, the second chapter is told through three different timelines surrounding Y2K, which is part of what drew Stanley...

In season two of Freeform’s murder-mystery anthology hit Cruel Summer, Megan Landry (Sadie Stanley) has big plans. It’s a sentiment that Stanley understands well.
“[Megan’s] kind of had to grow up pretty fast, so I can relate to aspects of that,” says Stanley, 21, who moved to Los Angeles at 18 to pursue acting. In the show, Megan is a computer coder and straight-a student, raised by a single mom in a small town. “She’s going through some really rough things. Her whole life and all of her plans for her life are really falling apart.”
While season one was set in the ’90s, season two (premiering June 5) is set amid the backdrop of Y2K in a waterfront Pacific Northwest town. The story revolves around the friendship between Megan and new girl in town Isabella (Lexi Underwood), the love triangle that comes between them and the tragic mystery that changes their lives forever.
