Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
Two entries ago, we discussed Thomas J. Churchill’s vampire-themed, title card only “franchise” entry, The Amityville Harvest. I knew that the writer/director had a sequel film, so going into The Amityville Moon was an interesting exercise.
As it turns out, sequel is a generous term for Churchill’s second Amityville film. It shares the same visual aesthetic as Harvest, an actor (Michael Cervantes), and may even be shot in the same location. Aside from that, however, the characters are all new and, in place of a vampire, The Amityville Moon features a werewolf as its central protagonist.
One thing that hasn’t changed: this is another in a long line of Amityville films that uses the famous title as an IP cash grab.

I recently got to ask Filmmaker Reyna Young a few questions about her new film Forgotten Tales. You can read our conversation below.
Jw- What made you decide to make a horror anthology film as opposed to a narrative feature?
Ry- I've always had an anthology film in the back of my mind and wanted to make it a reality. I wrote my first comic issue of Forgotten Tales, Audition, years ago for Scattered Comics in Sacramento, and I will have a comic coming out based on the film and cannot wait for that. But I've always loved Creepshow and wanted to do my own anthology.
Jw- In Forgotten Tales there is a ghost story, a home invasion story, and a stalker story. Do you like to watch all different kinds of horror? What are some of your favorite kinds of horror to watch? What...

Plenty of films deal with serial killers, alien invasions and marauding monsters - all fun stuff and great fodder for horror. The upcoming short Words Like Knives takes a more psychological approach, working in topics like bullying and mental cruelty. These are things that many individuals deal with on a daily basis, and they make great subjects for a horror film.
Words Like Knives was written by and stars Kelsey Zukowski and directed by Travis Legge. It costars Jeff Scaduto, Valerie Meachum, Myke Wilson, Melissa Revels, and Aley Kreinz.
Shooting is scheduled for April, 2012 in Rockford, Illinois, and you can follow its progress on the Words Like Knives Facebook page and the Words Like Knives Twitter feed (@RumorsCanKill).

We see all kinds of movie trailers around here. Psychological thrillers, over-the-top slashers, campy horror-comedies, you name it. And every so often we get one that gets under our skin...that trailer that feels real. Such is the case with the teaser for Inhumane. You feel like you're looking right into the brutal crimes of Corbin Hobbs, and we've got to admit it's more than a little off-putting.
No, this trailer is not the most slickly shot piece of filmmaking ever produced, but that adds to its strength. Gritty does not begin to describe it. Dirty might be a better word.

When we first heard about Echo Lake last December, it was slated to be a web series, but things have changed as co-writer (with Kelsey Zukowski) and director Jonathan Moody now tells us it's turned into a feature. They're in the midst of fundraising to finish shooting this winter, and to help move things along in that regard, they've released a new trailer.
The film from Sick Flick Productions stars Chason Hunter, Brittany Colley, Andre Bland, Eli Harris, Kelsey Zukowski, Jonathan Moody, Sam Qualiana, Brandon McPherson, Robert Shepherd, and Frances Mitchell; and once Phase II kicks into gear, they'll be joined by a few more recognizable names: Jackey Hall (Cyborg Conquest, 869), Shawn C. Phillips (Haunted High, Chillerama), Sierra Holmes (Piranha 3Dd, VH1’s "Scream Queens"), and Melantha Blackthorne (Sineaters, The Witching Hour).

I normally ignore short films, but What They Say was co-written by Horror Yearbook's own Kelsey Zukowski, and we always support the few people who still like us. The dark drama is based on a short story written by first-time producer and star of the film, Heather Dorff, and directed by Justin Romine of Fathead Films. What They Say is currently in post-production and is set to make its premiere at the Chicago Horror Film Festival in September, followed by a 6 month festival run before its DVD release. Check out the synopsis and gallery below, and keep an eye out for What They Say coming to a film festival near you.

Dig on these Exclusive Nsfw Stills that director Anthony G. Sumner, don't show your kids or memaw this shit! Psycho Street is another cool film I'm close to and been following for a long time. The horror anthology has a really cool and insane segment called "Lewis", sounds pretty tame and simple but it'll shock, floor and possibly offend you, it pushed the envelope as far or futher than anything I've seen in a long time and will probably make you go pray after witnessing the bloody carnage that is "Lewis".
If you've been missing that 70's horror feel then this is what you've been looking for, devil worship, sacrifice, blood, gore and nudity all in one segment! I have a lot of friends invloved with "Lewis" and the entire anthology and I'm happy to see all of this come together!

Brian S- First off, who are you and where did you come from?
Kz- Hello, I’m Kelsey. I’m from Eastlake, Oh, a suburb outside if Cleveland. I’m extremely passionate about the horror genre and am a huge film fanatic. I really love writing and acting in interesting films that question the dynamics in human nature and societal norms. I tend to be attracted to the darker side of this, it’s just very enthralling for me to examine.

Actress/writer Kelsey Zukowski shared her Best and Worst Films of 2010 with GeekTyrant. Check out her picks andwhat she had to say.
Best:
Frozen- Frozen is the film that really stayed with me the most throughout 2010. It has such an uncomfortable stillness without really showing anything remotely graphic. There is hardly any gore and the little that there is by wolves who aren’t really all that villainess; they are simply a part of nature. Having nature as the villain is one of the most interesting components of the film. Nature is the element responsible for essentially putting these kids through lingering, brutal torture. Watching our protagonists freeze was more uncomfortable and painful to watch then the most graphic torture or murder scenes. With nature as the antagonist there is also an overwhelming feeling of inevitability as they are stranded. Really their only options of how they die; falling to their deaths,...

Filmmaker Jonathan Moody, who is in the works on horror webseries "Scream Queen Campfire" and the horror anthology Trick or Eat, has created another new webseries being planned to debut April 12th, 2011, called "Echo Lake". It's a horror mystery thriller about a small town beset by a relentless serial killer. Anyone can be a suspect, and anyone can also be a victim.
From the Press Release:
The idea of the series is to do a murder mystery where each week fans watch 15 minutes and see people die in every episode. Who the killer is will always be questioned. And you won't find out who it is until the sixth and final episode. The way it's being made is to turn "Echo Lake" into a 90-minute feature film in the end.
Written by Jonathan Moody and Kelsey Zukowski and directed by Jonathan Moody, the webseries will star Chason Hunter, Brittany Colley,...

Heather Dorff is an up and coming actress from the Chicago land area who first got my attention back in the summer while donning a pink wig (don't ask). Heather is any fan boy's dream girl. Why, you ask? When she is not out filming cool indie horror films and shorts, you can find her playing zombie dress up and hitting the local zombie parties, taking in a movie or playing lots and lots of video games! Check out my latest "Versus" and learn more about this cool girl, her projects, weird eating and drinking habits, what she does in her spare time and the two words "zombie baby".
Brian S- First off Heather how'd you get into acting?
Heather Dorff- When I was a kid I really feel in love with the way movies can effect/inspire you. They can make you feel as though anything is possible, make...

Here's a cool new teaser and a few images below for the upcoming indie vampire film 'Afraid of Sunrise' from Fathead Films. This vamp fest is directed by Justin Romine with a screenplay by Andy Schatner and stars Andy Schatner, Heather Dorff, Deneen Melody, Tom Lodewyck, Dan Kuhlman, Kris Desautels, Kelsey Zukowski, and Ron Fitzgerald.
I love my indie films and we'll have much more on this one soon!
Plot:
After years of fighting, vampires and humans come to a truce-with the vamps getting the short end of the stick. Relegated to second class citizens, they are forced to live in ghettos and microchipped to track their movements. Adding insult to injury, they also must get their blood from specially sanctioned government blood banks.
Although the Hunters have officially disbanded, Jonathan Sloan and his small crew of ex-Hunters track down “illegals” trying to uncover a conspiracy of a vampire cabal...
