TruTV has renewed comedy series “Tacoma Fd” for a 13-episode third season. The series follows members of a fire department in a city where it often rains, rendering their job somewhat uneventful. Selena Gomez busts out her cooking chops in the new HBO Max series Selena + Chef. From perfecting French omelettes to undercooking cheese soufflés, the singer said that testing her culinary skills helped get her out of the quarantine rut.
“I was definitely getting down and a lot is going on,” the singer said during HBO’s TCA session on Wednesday. “[The show] was an opportunity to make something that could make people smile.”
The Dolittle star, joined by producer Aaron Saidman and chef Antonia Lofaso, shared that her first unscripted series afforded her the skills and confidence to take on challenging dishes. While some of the show’s featured recipes, including one for a spicy miso ramen, have become staples for the singer, Gomez said she intends on staying away from others.

HBO Max released the trailer for Selena Gomez’s new cooking show “Selena + Chef” on Wednesday, in which the actress and singer learns to cook (remotely) from 10 celebrity chefs.
Described as an “unapologetically authentic cookalong,” the series sees Gomez joined by 10 world-renowned chefs — Angelo Sosa, Antonia Lofaso, Candice Kumai, Daniel Holzman, Jon & Vinny, Ludo Lefebvre, Nancy Silverton, Nyesha Arrington, Roy Choi and Tonya Holland — to “tackle cuisines of every variety, share invaluable tips and tricks, and deal with everything from smoking ovens to missing ingredients.”
“Having some of the best chefs open up their kitchens to me was a humbling and fun experience,” Gomez said in a statement. “I definitely discovered I have a lot more to learn. I’m also really happy that we were able to highlight and raise money for some incredible charitable organizations.”
The series will debut on HBO Max on Thursday, Aug. 13.

“I’ve never heard ‘Pack your knives and go’ before. I feel very disappointed in myself. I did not put my life and my restaurant on hold to get eliminated. Three male cheftestants have been eliminated from “Top Chef: All-Stars L.A.” so far — Joe Sasto, Angelo Sosa and Jamie Lynch — but it looks like a woman will be on the chopping block in week four when the competitors have to make vegetarian dishes for the judges. That’s according to our racetrack odds, which are based on the combined forecasts of “Top Chef” fans who have placed their bets here in our predictions center.
As of this writing Lisa Fernandes gets leading odds of 37/10 of being eliminated. She previously competed on the show in season four, when she was a runner-up but landed at the bottom seven times in a row before the finale. She’s been doing alright in season 17, though, advancing safely through all three elimination challenges so far.

After winning the first elimination challenge of the season, Gregory Gourdet rose to the top of our “Top Chef” odds according to the combined predictions of fans who place their bets every week here in our predictions center. But after the second episode, “The Jonathan Gold Standard,” the balance of power has shifted. See where our racetrack odds stand now.
Gourdet did just fine in “Gold Standard,” making halibut, turmeric and tomato broth that passed muster with the judges well enough for him to advance him safely to the next round, but Bryan Voltaggio made the judges’ top three with his short ribs with charred eggplant puree, fermented radish and butternut squash vinaigrette. After that impressive showing he has shot to the top of our predictions with odds of 10/3.

On the second episode of the All-Star edition of “Top Chef,” three All-Stars committed culinary sins of varying degrees that landed them on the bottom of the 14 remaining contestants.
For a challenge in honor of the late Los Angeles food critic Jonathan Gold, Stephanie Cmar made what host Padma Lakshmi called an “Indian taco,” which she claimed “didn’t taste like anything” and later said the dish was missing “tart flavors.” Guest judge Ruth Reichl offers that the addition of chutney would’ve “woken it up.” Eric Adjepong, who missed out on buying the last duck after Lisa Fernandes grabbed it at Whole Foods, instead paired his scallops with forlorn-looking and soggy red cabbage. Judge Gail Simmons said Eric’s plate wasn’t cohesive.

When Atlanta-based restaurateur Kevin Gillespie, 37, competed on the sixth season of Bravo’s “Top Chef,” he ended up in third place. But he came in first in the hearts of viewers when he earned the title of Fan Favorite. No less than Wolfgang Puck declared him his favorite of all the “Top Chef” alums.
This time Kevin is even more determined to win. As he said in the second episode of season 17, which pits a line-up of returning All-Stars against one another, he has a very good reason why he was psyched for another chance to show off his culinary stuff. “It’s to prove to myself that I am not dying.” Kevin had surgery to remove a tumor from his kidney and spent a year fighting to recover. After overcoming such a serious health issue, this guy with a dry sense of humor clearly has a fire in his belly to succeed.

In one of the most logical TV tie-ins ever, "Top Chef" is setting sail! Bravo has announced an official "Top Chef" cruise featuring judges Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons and former cheftestants like Spike Mendelsohn, Angelo Sosa and Jennifer Carroll, who will travel from Miami to Mexico in April 2013.

We all know the best (and worst) part of a cruise is the non-stop gourmet food, so to take such awesome chefs on board for cooking demos, Quickfire challenges, "Top Chef" menus and more "Tc"-related events, according to topchefthecruise.com, makes total sense.
You can buy tickets starting Aug. 16 ranging in price from $699 to $5,999 (that's what a penthouse suite with veranda will set you back). So far, Mendelsohn, Sosa, Carroll, Hubert Keller, Tim Love, Tiffany Derry, Chris Hanmer, Michael Isabella, Hosea Rosenberg and Casey Thopmpson have all signed on, but the cruise's website promises many more to come.

Or, at least, that’s how we like to remember it.
It’s another season of Top Chef, and this time, Texas is teed up.
Can we be honest? We never invest too much in the early Top Chef episodes because we tend to...

Top Chef season 7 runner-up - and recent Top Chef: All-Stars competitor - Angelo Sosa is cooking his way into fall. As the leaves change color, and the temperatures drop, the chef is preparing a special, seasonal meal inspired by the Hudson Valley on Oct. 15 in Milbrook, N.Y. "The beauty of Millbrook reminds me of a European winery," Sosa tells People. "The inspiration behind the menu is to create a meal pulling from the accumulations of my travels and taking the aesthetic of the vineyard, the beauty of the wine and infusing them with my food." Sosa will cook...

Love Is In The Air! Between All The Straight Guys!
While the concept of the "bromance" is nothing new — the term was coined back in the late 90s — observing the popular culture the past couple of weeks, I can't help but feel something has changed when it comes to straight guys expressing their affection for each other. Yes, I know gay guys can be in bromances, both with other gay guys and straight guys, but that's not what I'm addressing here. And, yes, I know there have been touching examples before, but something does seem different.
What exactly? I'd say it's not just how commonplace they've become, but the depth of feeling which these straight guys are now expressing for each other. What, in my opinion, was often kind of a jokey thing in the past, (or a little bit of wishful thinking on the part of fans — see Hawaii Five-0...

[Spoiler Alert! Do not click ahead if you haven't yet seen last night's finale!] Last night, Mike Isabella and Richard Blais duked it out for the title of Top Chef All-Star. They each created their own restaurants, which gave them a chance to show Tom, Padma, Gail, and guest judges Lidia Bastianich and Hubert Keller what they’re truly all about. And the honor went to…
…Richard Blais! We chatted with the 39-year-old chef and restauranteur about oyster-gate, his anxiety issues and his bromance with Fabio.
Entertainment Weekly: How does it feel now that you can talk about your win?

Two weeks ago, Top Chef finalist and Crocadile Aficionado Angelo Sosa opened a new restaurant in midtown Manhattan called “Social Eatz” (Sic). Since Noah Garfinkel and I are both exquisite connoisseurs of fine cuisine, Top Chef, and putting the letter Z on the end of thingz, we decided to take a trip to the Asian-inspired snack-food jaunt to sample some real-life Top Chef cooking, just like our moms (the lesbians from Top Chef Season 4) used to make. Social Eatz — named for its laid-back-but-upscale ambiance and also Z — is located at 53rd st and 2nd Avenue, right in the heart of Manhattan’s “What The F*ck Is Over Here After 5 pm, Werewolves Or Something?” District. When we arrived at the restaurant, we couldn’t help but immediately notice that it’s conveniently located right next to a not-unpornographic DVD depot: Immediately after entering, Noah used the bathroom to “wash his...

If you read my Top Chef: All-Stars recaps every week, it's no secret that I adore Angelo Sosa. He's super talented, charming and come on, friggen adorable. So as you can probably guess, I was crushed and shocked when he packed his knives last week. But, I think Anthony Bourdain summed it up best in his blog:
"It’s like seeing a good baseball team at the playoffs that played great all year and may even be the better team, but it just happens that everything goes wrong for them."
Exactly. And I will miss watching the games. So sad.

A late-night endurance challenge at Target was not what the doctor ordered for Top Chef: All-Stars' Angelo Sosa. Exhausted and suffering from "palate fatigue," the New York-based chef — who was sick in last season's finale and joined All-Stars two weeks later — got the boot this week for over-salting his baked potato soup.
Find out why the Season 7 runner-up added salt and bacon to his dish, if he too made a weepy speech at Judges' Table, and why he is not a saboteur.
Top Chef's Fabio: "Everybody's a sore loser"
The judges said your soup was inedible, which is the kiss of death. Were you aware that it was so over-salted?

Jimmy Fallon brought the funny to Top Chef: All-Stars last night. The late night talk show host was the guest judge for the elimination challenge that had the cheftestants preparing their take on his favorite dishes for his birthday. Who was told to pack their knives? Was it Carla Hall for her chicken pot pie? How about Angelo Sosa's pulled pork or Tiffany Derry's chicken and dumplings? Fabio Viviani made a hamburger with fries while Dale Talde prepared the yummiest looking dish—cheesesteak on soft pretzel rolls... Sadly, Fabio was given the boot after the judges complained that his dish was more like a dry meatloaf than a juicy hamburger. But is the Italy-born, L.A.-based chef complaining? Heck...

Marcel made another foam and Anthony Bourdain compared his dessert to a punch in the eye. Lots of arguing at judge’s table? You bet. It was just another week of Top Chef All-Stars with high stakes. With Marcel gone, that leaves Tre as the one chef prior to Season 4 to have made it through Top Chef All-Stars Restaurant Wars. Perhaps the competition got tougher as the seasons progressed?
Top Chef All-Stars reached the point in its season where the fat is trimmed in the Restaurant Wars challenge last week and tonight is an Italian food challenge with Lorraine Bracco (Sopranos) making a cameo. If your stomach is growling in anticipation of a new episode of Top Chef All-Stars tonight, you’d better grab a handful of celery sticks a king-sized Snickers some Chicken Fried Codfish with Brussel Kraut and Ginger Beer. That’s because Bravo won’t be running a new episode of the addictive chef showdown till next Wednesday (Feb. 2).
In the interim, and because we’re currently at the season’s midway marker — with only nine of the original 18 cheftestants remaining — it seems like the perfect time to debate which three folks deserve to make the finale (and which three you’re rooting for,...

Forget the well-stocked Top Chef pantry, this week the contestants had to forage for their own food - at sea. With 12 chefs still standing, it was off to Montauk, the most eastern point of New York's Long Island, and all aboard two fishing vessels for an adventure. With no Quickfire challenge to warm them up, the chefs were split into four teams of three and told to catch their own fish, then cook and serve them on the beach to 200 people. As the chefs struggled to find their sea legs, the pressure ratcheted up - and that's before any fishing lines were even cast.

Let's give a big hootie-hoo to Carla Hall, who nabbed her first Top Chef: All-Stars victory in Wednesday's episode - a strenuous challenge that found the chefs competing head-to-head at the Us Open. Split into two teams - orange and yellow - the chefs each devised a dish that would be appropriate to serve to tennis players and Us Open-attendees. Translation: their food needed to be elegant, light and healthful. At first, it seemed like Hall could end up in the bottom: She insisted on making an African nut stew - healthy, sure, but not necessarily to the liking of her teammates.

A night at the museum was more like a nightmare for some contestants on Wednesday's Top Chef: All-Stars. In a demanding challenge, the 17 remaining chefs were asked in their Quickfire challenge to make a kid-friendly snack for a group of children who were spending the night at New York's American Museum of Natural History. Judging them - Joe Jonas, whose celebrity impressed some, like Antonia Lofaso, who said her young daughter would freak out if she knew her mom met the rocker. Others, like Dale Talde, weren't as star-struck. "I had no idea who Joe Jonas was," he said.

Cursing note: Angelo drops the F-bomb during our chat.
What can we say about Season 7's Angelo Sosa? We're not surprised he made Bravo's "Top Chef: All-Stars." He didn't have any shortage of confidence in the kitchen and he had the credentials to back it up. After Zap2it spoke to Season 5's Carla Hall at Bravo's kick-off party in New York City, Angelo dropped in and we had to chat him up, as well.
It hasn't been long since we saw Angelo battle it out in last season's finals while suffering from some kind of illness. While it didn't go his way, Angelo has dealt with the disappointment.
"Bottom line, [Kevin Sbraga] cooked a great dish that day," the restaurant consultant tells us. "Honestly, I was just happy that I cooked and I was able to do what I loved."

We were ecstatic to see that comfort food caterer and former model, Season 5's Carla Hall, was returning for Bravo's "Top Chef: All-Stars." So, when Zap2it attended the kick-off party in New York City, we tracked Carla down (and then we got a surprise visit from Season 7 finalist Angelo Sosa).
What would Carla like to do differently this time around? I think the thing is to trust myself and to honor my food. I think we're doing the thing that we do all the time and especially, I guess in catering. You're maybe not validated like you are in a restaurant. So, you're still looking over your shoulder. okay, is their stuff better than mine? Should I be doing that? When in fact, I should be doing me. So, that's what I came back with this time. Looking for a way to spice up your holiday feast? Who better to offer cooking advice than the contestants of Top Chef All-Stars. Add an Asian twist to your Turkey Day with Angelo Sosa's Peking Turkey recipe. Or maybe Mike Isabella's 40-minute, deep-fried turkey is more your style. Then there's Carla Hall's sriracha sweet potatoes, which as she says, really pump up the heat and make the dish more savory than sweet. But Dale Talde's is probably the easiest of them all: White Castle Stuffing. "Just chop up the burgers and put them into the bird," he says. "'Cuz that's how I roll."

Last night, during Bravo's Top Chef reunion special, the cabler finally took the wraps off of one of television's worst-kept secrets: that next season of Top Chef would be an all-stars edition that would bring back 18 former contestants to battle it out for another chance at the title. Call it sweet justice for us fans, but after a snooze-worthy seventh season of Top Chef, the cooking competition is returning Dec. 1 (10 p.m.) for an All-Stars edition in New York City with some of our favorite past contestants, including Richard Blais (season 4), Fabio Viviani (season 5), Jennifer Carroll (season 6) and — the one I’m most excited about — Carla Hall (season 5). Judging by the full roster, Bravo went for talent in the kitchen as opposed to talent for drama, so expect a nail-biter of a season. Check out the complete list of 18 cheftestants who’ll duke it out:

The Top Chef finale Wednesday night asked the three remaining contestants -- Angelo Sosa, Ed Cotton and Kevin Sbraga -- to whip up the most important meal of their lives. But where was the drama -- and the suspense? True, Angelo was down for the count, sidelined with a nasty stomach bug that threatened to take him out of the competition before he could hit the kitchen one last time. But Ed was coming off two back-to-back victories and seemed unbeatable, while Kevin just grumbled that he hoped Angelo would recover so he could take on a worthy adversary. In the end,...

"Top Chef: DC" comes to a suspenseful close with one of its competitors taken to his sickbed, but in the end Kevin Sbraga triumphs and takes home the title.
Upon hearing that he's "Top Chef" in the Wednesday (Sept. 15) finale, he responds in disbelief, "I am?"
"Best reaction ever," observes judge Tom Colicchio.
For their final challenge, Sbraga, Angelo Sosa and Ed Cotton have to cook the best four-course meal of their lives, using all the same proteins. There's a vegetable course, a fish course (rouget, cuttlefish, cockles, slipper lobster), a meat course (pork belly, whole duck) and dessert (oh noes!).
As we already surmised, they pair up with past winners. Kevin and Angelo get the champs they want, Michael Voltaggio and Hung Huynh, respectively. Ed wants Michael also, but he gets Ilan Hall, whom he constantly reminds is supposed to be his sous chef.
