The Sci-Fi genre consists of some of the most inventive and life-changing films because by the very definition of the word the creators have to invent a fictional future or technology and while some of the films in this genre give us spectacle others give us a story that makes us think about the future and how our world is changing for better or for worse. So, today we thought of listing the best new sci-fi films you can watch at home right now and in this list, we didn’t include any film released before 2023.

The MonsterVerse has, somewhat quietly, become one of the most reliable franchises going in Hollywood at the moment. For a full decade dating back to 2014's "Godzilla" right up through this year's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," these films have built up a loyal audience with no signs of fatigue on the part of the viewers. While Warner Bros. and Legendary are quickly looking to get a new installment going, they will need a new director, as we recently learned that Adam Wingard will not be returning to the helm. So, who should take his place?
Wingard is the only filmmaker to direct two MonsterVerse installments, having helmed 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" as well as "The New Empire," which now ranks as the highest-grossing "Godzilla" movie ever. So sure, the studio would probably have liked him to return, but he's busy with other projects. Besides, that just opens the...

One of the most important elements of delivering a memorable movie monster is the reveal. It’s a pivotal moment that finally sees the threat reveal itself in full to its prey, often heralding the final climactic confrontation, which can make or break a movie monster. It’s not just the creature effects and craftmanship laid bare; a monster’s reveal means the horror is no longer up to the viewer’s imagination.
When to reveal the monstrous threat is just as important as How, and few contemporary creature features have delivered a monster reveal as surprising or as cool as 2020’s Underwater.
The Setup
Director William Eubank’s aquatic creature feature, written by Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You) and Adam Cozad (The Legend of Tarzan), is set around a deep water research and drilling facility, Kepler 822, at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, sometime in the future.

Last August, we heard that Imagine Entertainment had picked up the film rights to Daniel Kraus’s “swallowed by a whale” thriller novel Whalefall (you can buy a copy at This Link) and now Deadline has a cool update on the project: 20th Century Studios has come out the winner in a bidding war over the Whalefall theatrical distribution rights, and Brian Duffield – who recently worked with 20th Century on the alien invasion film No One Will Save You – has signed on to co-write, direct, and produce the film.
Duffield is working on the screenplay with Kraus, and here’s the story they’ll be bringing to the screen: Jay Gardiner has given himself a fool’s errand – to find the remains of his deceased father in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Monastery Beach. He knows it’s a long shot, but Jay feels it’s the only...

Selected by Bloody Disgusting’s head critic Meagan Navarro as the best new horror book of last year, Daniel Kraus’ Whalefall is now getting a big screen movie adaptation.
Brian Duffield is on board to co-write and direct the movie adaptation of Kraus’ novel, Deadline reports this afternoon.
20th Century Studios has snapped up the distribution rights to the Imagine Entertainment film, and Deadline additionally notes that Kraus will co-write the screenplay with Duffield.
The book is described as The Martian meets 127 Hours.
The storyline follows “a scuba diver in search of his deceased father’s remains who gets swallowed by an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. It’s a tale about a young man who has given up on life — only to find a reason to live in the most dangerous and unlikely of places.”

Author Mary Shelley has inspired horror creators since the 1800s, but never like Lisa Frankenstein. Zelda Williams brings Diablo Cody's undead teen romance to life like the second coming of early Tim Burton, harvesting an uncanny gothic romance from spare human parts. It's caught somewhere between Riverdale, Edward Scissorhands, and Warm Bodies, a good crossroads to call home. Williams and Cody inject surges of teen girl empowerment through their morbidly adorable Frankenstein tale, which can feel like a hammy 1980s sitcom, yet transcends expectations with an avalanche of campy, almost wall-breaking silliness.
Kathryn Newton shines as the horror-loving Lisa Swallows, a high school recluse who rarely speaks after the axe murder of her mother. Lisa now lives as a black sheep with her cheerleader stepsister "Taffy" (Liza Soberano), high-strung stepmother Janet (Carla Gugino), and easygoing father Dale (Joe Chrest). In Hollywood, January is generally considered a "dump month" where studios dump movies that they lack confidence in. Scattered box office hits like "American Sniper," "Bad Boys for Life," and last year's "M3GAN" have defied those expectations (mainly by taking advantage of the lack of competition), but this week's biggest release fits the "dump month" box to a tee. Sci-fi thriller "I.S.S." -- which stars Ariana Debose ("West Side Story") and was directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite ("Blackfish") -- grossed just $1.2 million from 2,520 theaters on its opening day (including Thursday previews), and is projected to gross just $3.3 million in its opening weekend, per Variety.
This won't come as a surprise if, like me, you've seen almost no marketing for this movie. "I.S.S." was distributed by Bleecker Street, which also released Meg Ryan's "What Happens Later" and Catherine Hardwicke's "Mafia Mamma" in 2023. Both of those movies scored smaller opening weekends...

Searching for and listening to movie soundtrack music for the year is an active quest of curiosity, discovery, and collage. For those fatigued and pushing through the chilliest season, I hope this mix can provide both energy and warmth, as it did to me in making it.Trends in film music over the last decade are continuing strong in 2023, particularly in the ambition of independent auteurs using complex and unusual scoring. The foundation for this mix is Angela Schanelec's beautiful and aptly titled Music, which provides both diegetic and non-diegetic moments to guide us. Samples range from The Old Oak, in which classical choral choir meets Syrian guitar and words of hope that now hit harder than ever, to a mix of sentimental strings courtesy of the legendary Joe Hisaishi. Abstract experimental sounds by two completely different kinds of artists—Harmony Korine and Thomas Newman—are mixed with sliced...

Universal has landed the Christmas comedy package for Naughty, which is set to be directed by Olivia Wilde and is based on a script by Jimmy Warden.
Warden will continue writing the screenplay for Universal, while producing along with Wilde on the project. There is no word on casting, but the synopsis from Universal points to a mother, Mallory, whose only hope of securing custody of her son from her gaslighting trash-bag ex is to find Santa Claus and convince him to testify in her divorce hearing.
Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara will produce through the LuckyChap banner after their success with Barbie. Wilde most recently directed, starred in and produced Don’t Worry Darling, which went on to earn around $90 million worldwide.

Horror remains as vital as ever. While other films flounder at the box office, horror almost always reigns supreme. Audiences simply cannot get enough. We inherently love to be scared; to be disturbed; to be frightened. To sit in the dark and let something scary take hold of us. The horror films of 2023 were an eclectic bunch — weird, wonderful, both fresh and familiar. Slasher throwbacks, modernist takes on classic tropes, and bold new voices in the genre all presented themselves to us, giving us the creeps in the process.
As is always the case when making a list like this, it's important to recognize the titles that didn't make the cut. So while we're proud of our ranked list of the top 10 horror movies of 2023, we also want to highlight several titles not on the list — "Knock at the Cabin," "The Sacrifice Game," "Haunted Mansion," "The Conference," "The Outwaters," "The Passenger,...

An HBO sizzle reel confirms that The Last Of Us season 2 will be with us in 2025. Not too long to wait, then…
With reports that The Last Of Us season two would begin filming in early 2024, it followed that the finished series wouldn’t be with us until the following year. HBO has now officially confirmed that, with an HBO max sizzle real stating that The Last Of Us’ next season would be “coming in 2025.”
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will, logically enough, be reprising their roles of Joel and Ellie respectively, and it’s common knowledge that the next season will follow the events of the second videogame. Co-creator Neill Druckmann has even teased that a small ‘element’ from The Last Of Us Part 2’s cut content – which will be shown off in January 2024’s remaster – will make an appearance in the second season. What is it exactly? He isn’t saying.

Filmed near the end of 2015, director McG’s horror comedy The Babysitter was released through the Netflix streaming service during the Halloween season of 2017 – and not only did it help establish Samara Weaving as a modern genre icon, it also did well enough to spawn a sequel. The Babysitter: Killer Queen was released by Netflix in September of 2020. Three years later (and eight years after he was in production on the first film), McG has confirmed to ComicBook.com that he’s still interested in making The Babysitter 3!
McG said, “We’re still talking about it. It was fun. The first movie, obviously, gave Samara Weaving to the world, and the second movie was Jenna Ortega. Hopefully we can answer the call and find a third star that reaches those lofty heights.“
The director previously told our friends at Bloody Disgusting, “There have always been three beats to this story. There’s the first beat,...

Season 2 of The Last Of Us may have found one of its central characters, as it’s reported that Booksmart’s Kaitlyn Dever is in talks to play Abby Anderson.
Given the prestige TV treatment by writer/creator duo Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, The Last Of Us was a major ratings success early this year – in fact, HBO ordered a second season almost as soon as episodes began to air in January.
Now that those strikes are over, it’s widely reported that The Last Of Us season two will begin production in early 2024 – indeed, an entry on the Film & Television Industry Alliance’s website (as spotted by Insider Gaming) reveals that filming is set to begin on 7th January 2024 in Vancouver.
If that’s the case, then filming is mere weeks away – which might be why we’re starting to hear some casting gossip emerge from Hollywood insiders.

A congressman is calling for a federal investigation of Warner Bros. for its handling of Coyote vs. Acme.
Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro took to X to blast the studio for its original plan to shelve the movie for a tax break.
“The Wbd tactic of scrapping fully made films for tax breaks is predatory and anti-competitive,” the San Antonio Democrat wrote. “As the Justice Department and @FTC revise their antitrust guidelines they should review this conduct. As someone remarked, it’s like burning down a building for the insurance money.”
Warners has since reversed its decision amid industry backlash and decided to try and shop the film to other studios and streamers. But the studio previously went through with shelving the movies Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt for tax write-offs last year.

It sounds like Coyote Vs Acme might be heading to a rival studio after all – and we’ve got some very angry filmmakers to thank.
Yesterday, we reported that it appeared Coyote Vs Acme might be saved after all following a weekend of rotten PR for Warner Bros. Discovery, which announced it was canning the finished $70m film for a $30m tax refund last week.
Now, with confirmation coming from The Hollywood Reporter, it seems that info was right on the money – and it sounds like the industry’s creative community weren’t happy, instructing their agents to cancel meetings with the studio in the wake of the news.
But now that Warner Bros. Discovery have made something of an about turn, the filmmakers aren’t exactly rushing back, instead adopting what the Reporter describes as “a wait-and-see approach”. Presumably, they’re waiting to see if it sells, and if...
Yesterday, we reported that it appeared Coyote Vs Acme might be saved after all following a weekend of rotten PR for Warner Bros. Discovery, which announced it was canning the finished $70m film for a $30m tax refund last week.

With Road Runner-like speed, Warner Bros. Discovery has reversed its decision to bury Coyote vs. Acme.
The studio will now allow director Dave Green to shop his live-action/animation hybrid movie to other potential buyers instead of shelving the project for a tax write-off, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Amazon is said to be a contender, with screenings for potential buyers taking place this month. Puck was first to report the news of the reversal.
The move comes days after the The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Coyote vs. Acme would become Warners third already-shot film to get shelved after previously nixing nearly completed projects Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt in August 2022.
After Batgirl and Scoob! were dumped, a group of filmmakers with business at the studio started a text chain — a support group of sorts — to share their hopes and their anxieties, as well as encouragement and tips for navigating the studio.

“Coyote Vs. Acme” may have just dodged a fatal anvil.
The live-action/animated movie is getting a new shot at being released after Warner Bros. pulled the plug on the completed film. John Cena and Will Forte star in the Warner Bros. movie, with the studio announcing November 9 that it would be scrapped for a tax write-off for Warner Bros. Discovery’s Q3 earnings. The $70 million project was completed in New Mexico in 2022 and was set to stream on Max July 21. James Gunn produced the feature and was also credited with the story; “May December” screenwriter Samy Burch penned the script with Dave Green directing.
Now, Warner Bros. is allowing director Green to shop the movie to other potential distributors, as IndieWire confirmed. Puck first reported the news.

Warner Bros. will no longer be shelving the completed live-action/animation hybrid film “Coyote vs. Acme” after outcry from filmmakers and artists over the decision last week. Instead of taking a tax write-off on the movie, TheWrap has learned that the studio will now allow it to be shopped to other distributors, meaning it will hopefully see the light of day.
Warner Bros. had no comment.
The studio said last week that it was shelving the completed movie due to a shift in strategy. “With the relaunch of Warner Bros. Pictures Animation in June, the studio has shifted its global strategy to focus on theatrical releases,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said at the time. “With this new direction, we have made the difficult decision not to move forward with ‘Coyote vs. Acme.’ We have tremendous respect for the filmmakers, casts, and crew, and are grateful for their contributions to the film.

Two Lost Doctor Who Episodes Have Been Found, But Their Guardians Are Too 'Terrified' To Return Them
"Doctor Who" has long been regarded as one of the pillars of science fiction television. Unfortunately, back in the 1960s and 1970s, the BBC regarded previously broadcast "Doctor Who" episodes as junk that was just taking up space, so the episodes were destroyed to make room for new programming. Some lost "Doctor Who" stories have since been recovered from collectors, overseas broadcasters, and -- in the case of two episodes of the serial "The Daleks' Master Plan" -- in the basement of a Mormon church. However, despite decades of searching, 97 episodes remain lost.
That number could be whittled down to 95, according to a new report by The Observer, but there's a problem. Film collector John Franklin, who knows the locations of the two missing episodes, says their guardians are afraid that if they come forward their precious mementos could be confiscated, and that they might even face criminal prosecution. The...

The scrapped “Coyote Vs. Acme” has now garnered a filmmakers vs. Warner Bros. campaign on social media.
On private Facebook group Crew Stories, “Coyote Vs. Acme” crew member Nate Bannister posted (and gave IndieWire permission to quote) his frustration. “I was Key Alm [assistant location manager] on this movie, almost died of stress pulling all the permits, we closed down the entirety of downtown Albuquerque, I had to call in every favor of my career to close an overpass with a half a days notice, I got so many angry calls from neighbors, business owners, etc day and night, working on this movie almost tore apart my relationship with my fiancée,” he wrote. “Why do I work in this industry?”

Both the WGA strike and most recently the SAG-AFTRA strike may be officially over, but I hope you didn't think that meant the studios would be finished with their nonsense just yet. Many will remember that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav made himself public enemy #1 earlier this year with some particularly poorly-considered remarks (although Disney's Bob Iger subsequently waded into the fray and did everything he could to vie for the crown himself). Well, believe me, it's my deepest displeasure to report that Zaslav is, unfortunately, at it once more.

“Coyote vs. Acme,” a live-action movie that stars John Cena, Will Forte and Lana Condor, has been shelved by Warner Bros. a year after it was completed.
This follows Warner Bros. similarly shelving nearly completed features “Batgirl” and “Scoob’s Haunted Holiday.”

Life on the farm aint easy, but it’s a hell of a lot harder when you’ve got flying saucers in your backyard! 2023’s newest sci-fi horror flick No One Will Save You, written, directed, and produced by Brian Duffield (Spontaneous), serves up a gripping story set in a quiet town facing a cosmic threat, all with nearly no dialog.
Right out of the gate, this movie stands out with its unique approach. It tosses a mere five words of dialogue into its 93-minute runtime, making it a fascinating experiment in visual storytelling. In a world of endless chatter, this film challenges itself to do more with less.
Leading the charge is Kaitlyn Dever as the relentlessly resourceful and un-abductable Brynn. a character that could give classic ’80s Final Girls one helluva high-five. Dever’s facial expressions and body language paint the picture of Brynn’s journey, from her...

A potential trend is emerging: Actors being forced to shut up in movies.
The new trailer for John Woo’s dialogue-free thriller Silent Night (below) teases a protagonist played by Joel Kinnaman who’s unable to speak. (“Nothing speaks louder than revenge,” reads the movie’s tagline.) The trailer follows Hulu’s similarly dialogue-free hit alien invasion thriller No One Will Save You.
Both are coming, ironically enough, during the SAG-AFTRA strike, which has actors dutifully not speaking to the press about their studio projects.
It’s not clear if dialogue-free movies can correctly be called a trend yet (the old media rule of thumb is it takes at least three examples to use the T-word). But it’s interesting that roughly 100 years after the silent movie era that at least a couple of filmmakers are exploring feature-length storytelling without leaning on dialogue at around the same time.

Last year, "Prey" delivered the best new installment of the "Predator" franchise since the 1987 original. Director Dan Trachtenberg took us back to the early 1700s to deliver a story of courage and survival as a young Comanche woman named Naru finds herself coming face-to-face with a Predator, with only a hatchet, a bow and arrow, a trusty canine, and a few clever tricks to help her. That meant giving us an all-new Predator to hunt her down, and Trachtenberg was both excited and challenged by the prospect of helping to create a creature from hundreds of years ago.
Leading up the physical media release of "Prey" on 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD today, we caught up with Dan Trachtenberg to ask him about developing new weapons for the Predator, how he came to focus on the Comanche as the protagonists,...

What’s worse than someone breaking into your house in the middle of the night? Something breaking in. That’s the setup for Brian Duffield’s tense sci-fi thriller, No One Will Save You.
Brynn (Kaitlyn Dever) is a young woman who lives alone in a big house in a small town following her mother’s death three years earlier. Alienated from her community because of a past tragedy, she bides her time by creating a model village, making and mailing clothes, and practicing steps for a dance she likely will never be asked to join. She’s lonely, but trying to wrap herself in whatever happiness she can conjure.
And then, one night, the lights flicker. Brynn hears a noise and decides to investigate. She creeps downstairs only to find the door of her isolated country house wide open, and the sound of shuffling in the next room. She hides from the intruder,...

Kaitlyn Dever's horror sci-fi flick 'No One Will Save You' wasn't intended to have a sequel, but the director won't rule it out.Director Brian Duffield has said that if enough people want a follow-up he will consider it, however, he admits it would be a hard task to make a franchise out of the story. He told Slash Film: "I am not the biggest sequel guy. I joked with [star] Kaitlyn [Dever], maybe it's every seven years, we'll do our Before Sunset and we'll save you. I could do a sequel. I have no plans to do a sequel. If enough people watched it on Hulu and everyone's begging for it, we'll talk. There's not a franchise super plan in my head yet. It takes about 10 minutes of wordless character- and world-building to realize no one is really going to speak in No One Will Save You. It's a gimmick, certainly, but in the hands of writer-director Brian Duffield, it's also a high-concept window into a story about guilt and isolation. Since being released directly to Hulu on September 22, the film has been trending and attracting glowing reviews from critics and horror luminaries like Guillermo Del Toro and Stephen King.
No One Will Save You: Brilliant, daring, involving, scary. You have to go back over 60 years, to a Twilight Zone episode called "The Invaders," to find anything remotely like it.
Truly unique.
King's praise references a 1961 episode of The Twilight Zone, "The Invaders," in which Agnes Moorehead plays a woman who has to fend off an alien invasion while alone and isolated in a nearly dialogue-free episode.

When you weren't looking, Brian Duffield snuck in and suddenly became one of the coolest names in original genre cinema. With his scripts for the slasher comedy "The Babysitter," the deep sea survival horror-thriller "Underwater," and the post-apocalyptic monster movie "Love and Monsters," Duffield has demonstrated a clear appreciation for not just the tropes of specific genres but also how to use them (and when to subvert them) to explore the human condition.
Much like his feature writing/directing debut, the teen horror rom-com "Spontaneous," uses the metaphor of high schoolers spontaneously combusting to talk about the malaise that plagues everyone in the 21st century (but especially young people), Duffield's second movie as a writer and director, "No One Will Save You," is all about the universal struggle of making peace with the mistakes of your past when personal salvation seems impossible. [The following story contains spoilers for No One Will Save You.]
During an uneventful weekend at the domestic box office, Brian Duffield’s alien invasion thriller No One Will Save You became the talk of social media. The Hulu release, which features virtually no dialogue, is another critical win for Duffield following his critically acclaimed directorial debut, Spontaneous, and it’s even received Guillermo Del Toro and Stephen King‘s stamps of approval.
The Kaitlyn Dever-led sci-fi film begins with the high concept of an alien home invasion, but eventually widens its scope into something more affecting on a character level. Dever’s Brynn Adams accidentally killed her 12-year-old best friend a decade earlier, and her small-town community of Mill River has turned her into persona non grata ever since, resulting in a life of alienation inside her late mother’s home.

Everyone seemed to have something to say about Brian Duffield’s new alien invasion thriller, “No One Will Save You,” this weekend — including “The Shape of Water” and “Pan’s Labyrinth” Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro.
Currently Hulu’s top-rated item, the 90-minute feature stars “Booksmart” breakout Kaitlyn Dever as a small-town recluse who singlehandedly fights off a series of extraterrestrial home invaders. The town-wide invasion happens in the aftermath of her mother’s death and 10 years after the mysterious death of her best friend — an event that appears to have made her an outcast.
In his analysis of the film, del Toro, posting to X (formerly Twitter), said that it is accurate to walk away from a viewing of “No One Will Save You” believing it to be “about soul reparation” in the woman’s battle for her life, but he posed that it “telescopes to other levels,” specifically other religious ones.

Why isn't every genre fan talking about Brian Duffield? He served as the screenwriter of fan-favorite hits like "The Babysitter," "Underwater," "Love and Monsters," and the new Netflix animated series, "Skull Island." He also made his directorial feature debut with the explosively emotional "Spontaneous," which I will fully admit was my #1 film of 2020. Now, Duffield is back with the alien invasion film "No One Will Save You," featuring "Booksmart," "Rosaline," and "Unbelievable" star, Kaitlyn Dever. The film is yet another homerun for Duffield, but the story differs from his usual snappy dialogue and witty banter, as Dever's character, Brynn, isn't one for talking.
/Films own Ethan Anderton recently had the chance to chat with Duffield about the film and learned what led to a story with minimal dialogue. Turns out, it was kind of an accident. "There's a moment in the movie where Kaitlyn's character goes for help, and it doesn't go well,...

One of the most inventive sci-fi films released by a mainstream outlet in recent memory, Brian Duffield’s “No One Will Save You” wastes little time before showing its audience that they’re watching something different. The film follows Brynn (Kaitlyn Dever), an agoraphobic young homebody who is perfectly content to hide out in her late mother’s ornate house to avoid confronting her traumas. But when faced with a break-in from an unexpected alien visitor, she’s forced to spring into defense mode to protect her home.
It would be natural to expect a lengthy chase sequence before building up to a final showdown that reveals the identity of her extraterrestrial assailant. But Duffield takes the opposite approach, placing Brynn face-to-face with a stereotypical gray alien in the film’s opening minutes. In an interview with IndieWire, Duffield explained why he decided to blow up the conventional alien invasion...

Brian Duffield's "No One Will Save You" is a lean, highly-effective alien thriller, with minimal dialogue and some seriously scary gray men. Alien films are nothing new, but in our era of films written by algorithms, it feels like a miracle to watch a direct-to-streaming film so fresh and unique. Fortunately, 20th Century Studios was on board with Duffield's vision from the beginning.
As he told our own Ethan Anderton during an interview, "I'll tell you the truth, when we were out selling the movie, a bunch of places were like, 'How will people know what's going on when they're doing laundry?'" I love a good f***-off movie, but allowing people who aren't actually watching the film to dictate a greenlight makes me hope the aliens take me next. "The thing that was so cool about working with 20th is, I think they make movies for people that love movies,...

Apart from being a film with almost no dialogue, the other interesting feature of the new film by Brian Duffield titled No One Will Save You is that it features its own theories about extraterrestrial invasion and the aliens’ intention behind interacting with humanity. There have been countless films about this topic, and what began as just a fascination with UFO sightings has evolved to the point where it now has to have a concrete plot as to why the aliens have arrived. Some films focus more on the language aliens use to communicate. Some show them as harmless creatures, while others project our own fantasies onto them of being saviors or destroyers. The intelligence of the aliens is also a deeply arresting topic. So, with all these various angles available to explore the aliens and depict them with fresh insight, No One Will Save You offers an amalgamation of all these possible permutations.

Brian Duffield is one of the most exciting genre filmmakers working in Hollywood today. His screenplay for the Western "Jane Got a Gun" was a gem that got tarnished by behind-the-scenes chaos. He bounced back with the clever horror romp "The Babysitter," and enjoyed a breakout 2020 with his scripts for "Love and Monsters" and "Underwater," and, most importantly, his directorial debut "Spontaneous." Duffield's adaptation of Aaron Starmer's darkly satiric novel about teenage romance in the age of school shootings hit the bullseye; it was hilarious and heartbreaking in equal measure, and, for a movie about kids inexplicably exploding, didn't skimp on the gore. At all. The film went hard because it had to.
Duffield's latest, "No One Will Save You," plays just as rough. The film stars Kaitlyn Dever as a young woman who lives by herself in a roomy rural house, which, one dark night, is broken into...

“No One Will Save You” is here. And you probably have some questions.
The sci-fi thriller, now streaming on Hulu, stars Kaitlyn Dever as a young woman who lives apart from society and is forced to defend herself against an otherworldly presence. If you’ve ever been spooked by alien abduction documentaries or UFO sightings, then this movie, written and directed by Brian Duffield, will keep you up for days. It mixes extraterrestrial mythology with home invasion terror and is both emotionally and viscerally satisfying.
TheWrap recently probed Duffield’s thoughts on a few key points about the film’s antagonists and ending.

America has a history of obsession with alien invasions. The myriad fantasies revolving around the aliens’ appearance, their motive for arriving on earth, and even their mode of sexual reproduction all preoccupy people’s minds. As time has passed, this particular preoccupation has subsided, but not entirely. The current preoccupation is with mental health. Healthy living is now a mysterious topic. What exactly is it, and how does one change themselves in order to live a healthy life? Everyone seems to be battling anxiety or trying to resolve past traumas. Where do aliens fit in all of this? No One Will Save You, the new film by writer-director Brian Duffield might just have the answer. It stars Kaitlyn Dever as the protagonist, Brynn Adams, who suffers from social anxiety. She gets the shock of a lifetime when she finds an alien has invaded her secluded home.
Brynn Adams seems to be an old-school girl.
