Writer / Artist Tony S. Daniel launches an all-new fantasy series, titled Edenwood, this September! Published by Image Comics, "this ongoing war-ravaged epic" includes colors by Marcelo Maiolo (Nocterra) and we have an exclusive look at the variant cover from Sean Gordon Murphy!
Edenwood—An eons-long series of multiverse wars between demons and witches has found earth as its latest battleground. The battle pits Necronema, the demonic land which supplanted the Midwest twenty years ago, against Edenwood, the witchcraft controlled area of land that protects the rest of the U.S. In the first story arc of this ongoing series readers are introduced to Rion, a young man born during the apocalyptic events of southern Illinois, who is thrust into the role of hero and leader after killing a Gather, a transient demon with the powers to cross any barrier or dimension.

“Batman and Robin will never die!” Those triumphant words, spoken in 2008’s Batman #676 by Grant Morrison and Tony S. Daniel, may have occurred in the comics, but they could apply to the movies as well. Case in point, despite numerous claims that he’s done with playing Batman after a cameo in The Flash, a recent Instagram post from Jason Momoa indicates that Ben Affleck will return as the Dark Knight for next year’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
This, of course, raises several questions about the current state of the DC movie universe. After all, Robert Pattinson starred in The Batman just earlier this year, and Michael Keaton has been touted as the primary Batman in The Flash and Batgirl. Does the reunion of Affleck’s Bruce Wayne and Momoa’s Arthur Curry mean that the Snyderverse has indeed been restored?

Today sees the release of Nocterra issue #1, the brand new series from Scott Snyder and Tony S. Daniel, where the world is plunged into everlasting darkness that turns the living into monsters. With pockets of survivors having to stay close to artificial light, the story follows Val, a "ferryman" that transports people and goods through darkness to take them to safety.

"...the 'Riddler' has been lying low since his humiliating defeat as part of the 'Bane' army, but as costumed creeps start to make their way into 'Gotham City', 'Edward Nygma' may have the answers he's been looking for. Or at least, the answer to why 'Deathstroke' is trying to kill him! Is it possible that Batman's tussle with 'Slade Wilson' was all just a ruse to get the killer closer to his true target?..."

Bruce grabs a pint with Kite Man and finishes things with his Flashpoint Dad in Batman #85. Hell yeah.
This Batman article contains spoilers.
We talked to Tom King about his epic Batman run last week, and one of the things that came up was how strong the quiet moments of the run were. Batman, Catwoman, Superman, and Lois Lane on a date at a fair. Bruce Wayne locked in a jury room. The Robins giving Bruce crap about eating his fast food cheeseburger with a knife and fork that he brought from home. This has been a massive story with some amazing action beats, but King's storytelling really shines during those little character beats that he weaves in.
Of course, the action is no slouch, as you can see from Catwoman's web zip into FlashBats' back in the preview pages below. It shouldn't be any surprise that...

A new era of Batman comics begins, as James Tynion IV explains what's coming up for the Dark Knight. Plus preview pages from Batman #86!
Starting in January, a new creative team is moving into the Batcave. Detective Comics veteran James Tynion IV and artists Tony S. Daniel, Guillem March, and Jorge Jimenez are taking over Batman from Tom King and Mikel Janin, who are wrapping up their 85-issue run later this month. Batman #86 will be Tynion and Daniel's first issue, and it promises to bring new challenges for the Dark Knight, who is still recovering from his battle with Bane and Thomas Wayne.
As Tynion previously teased, Gotham is now in an era of reconstruction after Bane's takeover completely shook the city. But just as Bruce is in the middle of creating a new vision for his city, Deathstroke and a group of assassins and villains show...

James Tynion IV and Tony S. Daniel's new Batman run will begin with the Dark Knight fighting Deathstroke and the Riddler!
Batman is getting a new creative team in January, as James Tynion IV and Tony S. Daniel take over the book to stear the Dark Knight in a whole new direction. Unfortunately, that direction seems to lead to more pain for the Caped Crusader, who will be in the process of recovering from both his fight with Bane and the death of Alfred in January's Batman #86 and 87.
According to the solicitations released by DC today, Batman will have to face a gauntlet of costumed assassins out to kill him. Unsurprisingly, one of those assassin's is the DC Universe's most skilled killer: Deathstroke.

Batman writer Tom King tells us what we should expect from Batman/Catwoman, his most ambitious work with the Dark Knight to date.
"If you think Vision changed Vision forever, Batman/Catwoman will change Batman and Catwoman forever," writer Tom King says of the 12-issue limited series that will conclude his four-year run on the character. While King has spent 85 issues physically and emotionally breaking the Dark Knight, it's these final 12 issues that could very well define his run.
For those who haven't been paying close attention, King took over writing duties on Batman in 2016 during DC's Rebirth relaunch. It was no easy task, especially since King had some very big shoes to fill -- Scott Snyder had just finished a five-year run of amazing, fan-favorite stories with the character. But King soon made the book his own, turning his take on Batman inward in order...

We caught up with Batman writer Tom King, who explains to us why his Dark Knight epic was cut short on DC's bestselling book.
When it was announced that writer Tom King would be ending his Batman run a bit earlier than originally intended, it didn't take long for the internet to start speculating about King's sudden departure. After all, the award-winning Batman and Mister Miracle scribe was well on his way to his planned 106 issues when his run was cut short, with December's #85 set to be the end of his time on the book. While some corners of the web theorized that King had been "fired" from Batman for one thing or another, the real reason behind his exit comes down to logistics, according to the writer.
"So what's going to happen is, or what did happen, was that [DC] needed some major DC stuff to...

Batman will focus on "rebuilding Gotham" after Bane's reign of terror in James Tynion IV's upcoming run.
When writer Tom King closes out his Batman run in December with issue #85, it'll be Detective Comics veteran James Tynion IV who will take his place. That's exciting news, considering Tynion has already proved his love for the Bat through runs on not only Detective but Batman Eternal and Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Unsurprisingly, with Tynion set to begin his tenure in January's #86 (with art from the great Tony S. Daniel), fans are already dying to know what's coming up in Batman in 2020.
According to Tynion, his run will tackle the fallout of King's "City of Bane," the disastrous event that sees the villain take over Gotham and bend it to his will. With the Bat broken and the city left defenseless, the Dark Knight's rogues now patrol the streets.

Former Detective Comics scribe James Tynion IV will take over as the writer of DC's Batman series in 2020, with Tony S. Daniel on art.
DC Comics has revealed who will be taking over as writer of its flagship Batman book after Tom King closes out his run at the end of this year. Currently, he's collaborating with Scott Snyder on Justice League and the big Year of the Villain crossover event.

With Stargirl having been pushed to 2020, we ended up receiving Titans‘ second season much earlier than expected – but I don’t think anyone is complaining. After all, DC Universe’s first series to ever launch has arguably proven to be its most popular, so it’s understandable that they satisfy subscribers.
To my delight, the premiere episode proved to be every bit the nerdgasm that trailers hinted it would be. Even though “Trigon” had originally been intended as season 1’s finale, it’d been retrofitted to launch the sophomore run. In other words, an additional fifteen minutes or so had been added to set up the next major storyline.
Now that Raven’s demonic father has been dispatched, our attention turns to the new big bad in town: Deathstroke. In case you’re wondering about how he factors into the finale, we join him as he’s seemingly enjoying retirement...

As the highly anticipated second season of Titans inches ever closer, we’re seeing more promotional material surfacing online. It was only a few weeks ago that the first trailer began making its rounds in cyberspace, which was a real treat for those not able to attend San Diego Comic-Con last month.
This time, the teaser comes in the form of a poster. Sure, there was another that dropped back in July, but I much prefer this offering. Seen below, it better encompasses the expanding cast, and is overall more pleasing to the eye.
In addition to returning favorites such as Dick Grayson (who is conspicuously neither Robin or Nightwing), Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, Hawk, Dove, Jason Todd as Robin and a Donna Troy proudly wearing her Wonder Girl attire, new faces like Superboy and Ravager are included in the grouping, while Deathstroke ominously stands alone at the bottom.

In addition to just being hyped in general for yet another season of Titans, I’d have to say that I’m especially looking forward to seeing what this series will do with Deathstroke. Like many of you, I dug what Manu Bennett brought to the character on The CW’s Arrow, but let’s see what happens once Esai Morales’ Slade Wilson is let loose with a TV-ma rating. Oh yes, there will be blood.
If you’ve been keeping up with news pertaining to this series, then you’ve probably seen its version of Deathstroke by now. To me, at least, the costume forces me to recall Tony S. Daniel’s time writing and drawing for the character in the comic book medium – and we all remember how no punches were pulled during that run.
Something also worth mentioning is how the mercenary’s family will be fleshed...

With all the trailers coming out of San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, I’m sure there’s a good chance you could be refreshing your browser looking for something pertaining to Titans‘ second season. At the moment, we can’t present to you that specific preview, but we do have a nice consolation prize in the meantime.
Thanks to Titans Brasil on Twitter, we have a couple screenshots taken from the video presentation at Sdcc for you to look over. As you can see in the gallery found below, the first is that of Esai Morales’ Deathstoke, who’s looking pretty badass in a costume that I surmise was derived from the design made known by comic book artist Tony S. Daniel.
For good measure, we’ve thrown in an additional slide as well, with this one showing a few members of the team heading into action. Based on what I’m seeing,...

The tricky thing about assembling a milestone issue is that it must satisfy both casual fans and Wednesday Warriors. In other words, not only must it pay tribute to a character’s rich history, but it must also stay true to said icon’s contemporary sensibilities and, hopefully, inspire everyone who’s laid down their hard-earned money to keep reading whenever the next installment hits stands.
Seeing as how DC did a fine job of pulling off this balancing act one year ago with Action Comics #1000, they’re now following suit with Detective Comics #1000. As it turns out, the decades-old title hits quadruple digits during the very year Batman celebrates his 80th anniversary. And believe me, you won’t find many better love letters to the Dark Knight than this baby.

Batman turns 80 this year. We talked to Kevin Conroy, Bruce Timm, Scott Snyder, and more about the hero's legacy!
It all began with two shots in the dark, pearls spilling onto the blood-soaked cement. No, it all started when the bat crashed through the window. Actually, it was when the boy fell into the cave. Maybe it was that hostile takeover at Apex Chemicals? Dozens of stories have shaped the legend of the Batman over his 80-year history, tales that have made the Caped Crusader arguably the most iconic character in comic book history, rivaled only by Superman.
When Bill Finger and Bob Kane put pen and pencil to paper for 1939's Detective Comics #27, they had no way of knowing that they were creating a new American myth that would captivate readers and movie audiences for decades to come. They certainly didn't expect their first Batman adventure,...

Now that we know director Matt Reeves is knee-deep in formulating the story for The Batman, moviegoers and pundits alike can’t help but speculate which villains he’ll utilize. Will he retain Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke, whom we know to be a product of Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns’ canned screenplay? Or will he play it safe by incorporating fan favorite baddies like the Joker and Harley Quinn?
Well, if this fan-made poster crafted by DigestingBat is to give us an accurate representation of the future, the answer is “all of the above.”
On this particularly striking piece, we see Ben Affleck’s Batman in profile (assuming that Reeves doesn’t recast the Dark Knight) joined by the aforementioned Deathstroke, in addition to Jared Leto and Margot Robbie’s respective iterations of the Joker and Harley Quinn. Suffice it to say, it shouldn’t be too hard for any...

For the longest time, Deathstroke was a rather obscure DC character. But, thanks in large part to Arrow, the world’s deadliest mercenary permeated the mainstream, with appearances in video games such as Batman: Arkham Origins and animated films like Son of Batman also doing wonders to help his cause.
Much to our delight, Slade Wilson’s future is looking brighter than ever now, as the character recently appeared in a post-credits scene for Justice League, in addition to Warner Bros. kicking around the idea for a solo film. That’s all hugely exciting, especially because Joe Manganiello is absolutely perfect in the role and it seems that he has a bright future in the DC Extended Universe.
There’s the standalone outing we just mentioned, which is being helmed by director Gareth Evans and is looking to Gods of War, Tony S. Daniel and Sandu Florea’s comic series...

There’s a great debate raging on right now over the almost legendary Zack Snyder cut of Justice League. For every report that surfaces saying it exists and is fully complete, there’s two more that point to it not being a real thing and simply just wishful thinking on the part of fans. Truth is, we won’t know for sure what exactly Warner Bros. has locked away in their vault until they’re ready to make an announcement, but in the meantime, we’re at least starting to get a better idea of which director (Snyder or Joss Whedon) shot which scenes.
Earlier this week, we were told that the opening Batman sequence was Whedon’s work, and now, it’s become apparent that Snyder was in charge of Deathstroke’s big screen debut. We know this because a new behind the scenes photo has surfaced which shows...

Though it may be incubating in the formative stages of development, Gareth Evans’ Deathstroke spinoff has already generated a ton of buzz online.
Having entered talks alongside Joe Manganiello (The Batman?) late last month, it seems The Raid filmmaker has officially begun his research on Slade Wilson, the masked vigilante who’s haunted Gotham since as far back as 1980. Three weeks ago, Evans took to Instagram to share his copy of Gods of War, Tony S. Daniel and Sandu Florea’s Deathstroke comic series that spanned from 2014 to 2016.
It’s a story fuelled by revenge (surprise!), as Slade Wilson journeys across the four corners of Gotham to locate his father Odysseus. Along the way, Deathstroke encounters a number of high-profile DC characters, including Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller, and the billionaire-by-day, vigilante-by-night known as Batman. Could this be a sure-fire sign that the Caped Crusader will swoop down to appear in Evans’ spinoff?...

While many of you are understandably counting down to next spring’s release of Action Comics #1000, it’s important that we not overlook the fact that the Man of Steel will reach another milestone in the comic book world very shortly.
You see, next week, the 800th issue of Superman is scheduled to hit stands, and that’s most assuredly something no DC fan should want to pass up. Yes, it’s technically being labeled as Superman #34, but that’s because the publisher is sticking to the numbering with which they begun at the start of the Rebirth era, which makes sense. Basically, this is a situation similar to when they shipped Detective Comics #19 back in the days of the New 52 but still celebrated that as being the 900th issue.
Now that we’ve cleared up that, let’s talk about the content itself. As it turns out, this installment continues the “Imperius Lex” storyline,...

While the mainline series that is Dark Nights: Metal is allowing for Scott Snyder to display his vast knowledge of the DC Universe, we can’t help but love how the various tie-ins that’ll hit stands this fall have an Elseworlds kind of flavor to them. Well, there’s that and the fact that each of them spotlight various evil versions of Batman.
To date, we’ve been offered closer looks at a sinister-looking Flash-Batman amalgam, The Red Death, a sweet mashup with Green Lantern, The Dawnbreaker, and a twisted Batman-Joker hybrid known as The Batman Who Laughs, the latter of which may ultimately prove to get the most attention. This review is based off a volume that collects Deathstroke: Rebirth #1 and Deathstroke #1-5.
It’s without question that Deathstroke has seen his fair share of relaunches in recent history. In the New 52 alone, he had two distinct runs to call his own, the second of which was especially memorable because we had Tony Daniel writing and drawing the world’s greatest assassin. But, after his exit, the title became a bit parabolic and suffered from the utilization of some rather silly villains.
Luckily, author Christopher Priest was able to get Slade Wilson back on track in the Rebirth era. And it’s not just the fact that he knows how to write for this character – believe me, he most certainly does – it’s that he knows how to tell the right story with Slade; supporting characters, tone, setting, you name it.

There's a new Martian in town on The CW's Supergirl, but M'gann M'orzz's story is just beginning to unfold. DC Comics fans were excited when Supergirl cast Sharon Leal to play the beloved Miss Martian on the show. The actor first appeared in last week's episode, "Welcome to Earth," as a bartender at the secret alien bar Alex and Maggie investigated. She revealed herself as a Martian to J'onn J'onzz/Hank, which was quite a surprise to him considering he assumed he was the last Martian alive. She took a more active role, and we learned something huge, in this week's episode "Survivors." Fan-favorite Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse, Agents of Shield, The 100) joined the cast this week to play villain Roulette (Veronica Sinclair), who runs a superhero fight club (no, not the friendly kind) and casino/illegal gambling ring that's been depicted in the comics, Smallville, and the animated series Justice League Unlimited.

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 08-03-2016

As the first “wave” of books get closer to issue 6, I’ll do a quick rundown on those series and try to help new readers choose which books might be best for them. Until then, be sure to sound off in the comments on how you’re liking (or disliking) the DC Rebirth!

Review: Aquaman has become a sort of love hate series for me in this DC Rebirth.
