Nearly eight years have passed since writer/director Jason Lei Howden announced that he would be making a sequel to his feature directorial debut Deathgasm (watch it Here). In that time, Howden has made Guns Akimbo and set up a film and comic book project called Monsters of Metal… and now he’s finally getting ready to head into production on Deathgasm 2! But to get the sequel made properly, he needs some help from the fans. That’s why Deathgasm 2 is currently raising funds and selling perks – including accepting pre-orders for copies of the finished film – on Kickstarter.
Deathgasm, released in 2015, tells the story of two high-school metal-heads, Brodie (played by Cawthorne) and Zakk (Blake), who form a band called Deathgasm. Most directors come from humble beginnings. Peter Jackson came up from the bowels of underground horror filmmaking in New Zealand. Actually, he was pretty much the only kid with a camera spraying blood and guts across the countryside long before it would be known as the home of Middle-earth. It's been said before, but the fact that the director of what is perhaps the goriest film of all time, "Dead Alive" aka "Braindead," went on to create the greatest fantasy epic of the new millennium with the "Lord of the Rings" franchise, is nothing short of miraculous.
It's almost as if an alien from outer space beamed into Jackson's body and somehow transformed him into one of our greatest living filmmakers. To be fair, when you look back on Jackson's gore opus "Dead Alive" and his heroin-soaked sendup of the Muppets called "Meet the Feebles," the sparks of an ingenious creative force are absolutely there.

Daniel Radcliffe is either known for playing the boy who lived in "Harry Potter" or for playing some eclectic guy in the newest super-weird movie. In "Guns Akimbo," the actor gives up his wand for guns to defeat his enemies. The Jason Lei Howden-helmed film stars Radcliffe as a down-on-his-luck video game developer who becomes the next participant in a real-life death match that streams online. Oh, and one day he wakes up with guns physically bolted to his hands. He is forced to go on the run even before he can get completely used to his hands being out of order and is chased by Nix (Samara Weaving), a relentless killer at the top of her game.
The fast-paced action movie follows Radcliffe struggling with the consequences of wielding guns on his arms, wearing only a robe and slippers, and navigating cartoonishly violent, inescapable situations. When Radcliffe read...

Jason Lei Howden has directed a couple of very cool movies – Deathgasm and Guns Akimbo – and his third feature is already sounding quite promising. Deadline reports that Howden will be directing a film called Monsters of Metal, based on the comic book he created with Llexi Leon. The first issue of Monsters of Metal won’t be in stores until October 19th, and is coming our way from Opus Comics.
Monsters of Metal is described as “an R-rated mockumentary – a cross between Spinal Tap and The Monster Squad“, since it’s about a bunch of iconic monsters who are in a heavy metal band. Here’s the comic’s description:
Frankenstein’s monster (named Frank) and his bandmates Medusa, Jack O’Lantern, Werewolf and the Bride have spent the last few centuries squatting in Dracula’s castle – unbeknown to their slumbering host. But after a band rehearsal gets out of hand and wakes the fearsome vamp,...

Exclusive: Jason Howden (Guns Akimbo) will co-write and direct a film adaptation of his first comic series Monsters of Metal, which launches with its first issue via Opus Comics on October 19.

Guns Akimbo is a little-known 2019 New Zealand film which has recently been added to Amazon Prime in the United States. It’s a film that has flown under the radar, but after viewing, it’s a film that deserves to have a wider audience.
In an alternate future, but maybe not with how 2020 is going, an underground fight club, Skizm, is gaining popularity by live-streaming real death matches between criminals. The police and the government want to shut it down, but they cannot find the criminal mastermind, Riktor (Ned Dennehy), or Skizm’s deadliest and top competitor, Nix (Samara Weaving), to stop the popular enterprise.

Daniel Radcliffe said that he was “immediately intrigued” by the character he plays in Jason Lei Howden’s new indie “Guns Akimbo” — a man who has guns surgically attached to his hands.
“When I got to about page 10 of the script and there was this scene where my character Miles with his new gun-attachment hands has to work out and try to go to the bathroom,” the actor told TheWrap’s Beatrice Verhoeven last September at the Toronto Film Festival, where the film premiered. “That was the moment that I was like, ‘You’re fully exploring the premise, I’m in!'”
The rest of the film proved just enticing to Radcliffe, who’s been eager to shed his image as Harry Potter in the long-running film franchise. “It was both insane and crazy and violent but also incredibly funny and just exciting and really fun to read,” he said.

Violent movies are nothing new to cinema. In fact, when done well, there’s an undeniably visceral thrill to seeing unspeakable acts in real life perpetrated in film. Video games have made a literal fortune with this sort of content, be it any number of shooting games, the Grand Theft Auto franchise, etc. Opening this week, the action comedy Guns Akimbo tries to merge the two formats, while attempting to satirize our silence obsessed culture. Unfortunately, it’s so ineptly handled that it comes closer to being offensive than it does to being a biting satire. This is one of 2020’s worst efforts, by far. The movie imagines a world where a game called Skizm has taken the country by storm. Social media users flock to their screens to watch two individuals fight to the death, as it all gets telecast like gladiatorial combat. Miles (Daniel Radcliffe) has no interest in it,...

In the lead up to a film’s release, the director normally has one job—promote. These filmmakers will be interviewed by countless outlets and discuss every aspect of their project in the hopes that moviegoers will buy a ticket and check out the film. But in the case of now-notorious filmmaker Jason Lei Howden, the man behind the upcoming Daniel Radcliffe-starring actioner, “Guns Akimbo,” the director made headlines in the days leading up to his movie’s release by inserting himself into— and deeply exacerbating and inflaming—an already painful, distressing and complicated social media debacle and subsequently harassing female film critics in its aftermath.

Despite a Twitter scandal in which “Guns Akimbo” director Jason Lei Howden’s allegedly targeted film critics of color whom he accused of cyber-bullying, distributor Saban Films said it still plans to open the actioner starring Daniel Radcliffe on February 28.
“We are releasing ‘Guns Akimbo’ this Friday, February 28,” a Saban Films representative told IndieWire on Monday. “While we do not condone, agree or share Mr. Howden’s online behavior, which is upsetting and disturbing, we are supportive of the film and all the hard work and dedication that has gone into making ‘Guns Akimbo.'”
The controversy began to unfold late last week after Dilara Elbir — a film journalist and editor-in-chief at a small film site, Much Ado About Cinema — was the subject of a fast-spreading tweet which included a screenshot of a Twitter Dm in which Elbir used a racial epithet. In response, social media exploded with messages that targeted Elbir.

Saban Films has acquired North American rights to Bruce Willis-starring sci-fi-action project “Cosmic Sin.” One of the hottest projects being pitched at the Berlin Film Festival’s European Film Market, the picture is written and directed by Corey Large and Edward Drake (“Breach”) with Large also producing.
“Cosmic Sin” follows a group of warriors and scientists who must fight to protect and save their race when a hostile alien species with the power to infect and take over human hosts sets its sights on a futuristic human society.
“Saban Films has been partnering on films at earlier stages and this is a project we knew we wanted to be involved with from the beginning,” said Saban Films’ Bill Bromiley, who negotiated the deal, with Large on behalf of the filmmakers.
The film is currently in pre-production, with The Exchange handling international rights in other territories. Stephen Eads is executive producing.

Guns Akimbo, the wild action comedy film starring Daniel Radcliffe, will be coming out soon and to get fans excited, a new clip has been released online showing off some of the action as a badass Samara Weaving fires off a rocket launcher like a boss.
The movie was first announced back in 2017 and now, the Jason Lei Howden-directed motion picture will finally arrive later this month. For those who haven’t been keeping up, it follows Radcliffe’s character Miles, a regular video game programmer whose life gets turned upside down when he becomes a contestant on Schism, a dark web site that live-streams people killing each other gladiator-style.
In the film, Miles wakes up with guns bolted to his hands and is forced to compete in the insane contest. He isn’t a killer though, so his first instinct is to run, which we can see in the clip above.

It was only a couple of days ago that the first trailer for Guns Akimbo was released, and it was clearly decided that a mere two minutes were not enough to adequately convey the film’s sheer volume of unremitting chaos. As such, another is now available for your viewing pleasure, and looks even more glorious.
The plot sees waster Miles (Daniel Radcliffe) run afoul of Skizm, a gang running a dark net site that livestreams urban gladiatorial death matches, and discovers his first battle is against the reigning champion Nix, played by Samara Weaving, who after this, Ready Or Not and Mayhem is fast establishing action credentials that should see her headline a new franchise in the imminent future if there’s any justice left in this hellhole of a world.

Admit it. That's the first thing you would think about when you heard that a guy gets guns bolted to his hands. Never mind putting on clothes, opening doors, pulling anything out of your pockets. I expect especially for anyone with a penis, the thought of a gun being that close such a sensitive body part would cross their legs and grimace a bit at the thought. But such is just one part of the insane yet clever premise of Guns Akimbo, the second feature from Jason Lei Howden. His first feature, Deathgasm (about two hapless teenager metalheads summon a demon who wreaks havoc) was a hit on the festival circuit, and its looks like this new film is a similar combination of craziness, violent...

Emma Watson may be breaking hearts in Greta Gerwig’s Oscar-nominated “Little Women,” but there’s no doubt that Daniel Radcliffe has forged the most provocative and unexpected career of the original “Harry Potter” franchise trio. He established himself as a deft comedic actor in TV shows “Miracle Workers,” “2 Dope Queens,” and voices on “The Simpsons” and “Robot Chicken.” The performance that completely reset his career was 2016’s “Swiss Army Man,” the feature debut from dynamic filmmaking duo the Daniels, which was so singular and inventive that it wiped the image of Radcliffe in a wizard robe from the mind of anyone who saw it. After that, and Radcliffe’s continued insistence on working with up-and-coming filmmakers on genre-pushing films, and “Guns Akimbo” doesn’t seem like such a stretch.

"When the sh*t goes down, you better be ready!" Saban Films has followed up with an official Us trailer for Guns Akimbo, the totally insane New Zealand action movie that we featured the first Australian trailer for earlier this week. The concept for this is crazy: in a near-future world where a live deathmatch video game rules the internet, one online troll find himself in deep shit when he wakes up to find two pistols bolted onto his hands. Things get even worse when he's pulled into the game and forced to go up against one of the meanest players to ever exist. Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Samara Weaving, Ned Dennehy, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Hanako Footman, Mark Rowley, Set Sjöstrand, and Rhys Darby. From my review of the film: "it's all out, totally insane, uber violent, wildly hilarious, unbelievable action movie fun." Fire it up. Here's the alternate Us trailer...

Continuing his trend of offbeat genre features, Daniel Radcliffe’s latest role finds him locked in a live-streaming, real-life death match. Directed by Jason Lei Howden, Guns Akimbo premiered back at Tiff last year and also stars Samara Weaving, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Ned Dennehy, Rhys Darby. Ahead of a late February release on VOD and in theaters, the first trailer has now arrived.
Jared Mobarak said in his Tiff review, “Just because you can troll the trolls on the internet from the comfort of your couch while wearing nothing but underwear and a bathrobe doesn’t mean you should. It’s not because it’s a waste of time, but that you probably didn’t activate your Vpn and the death match website you’re commenting on now knows your address. And they don’t take kindly to anonymous nerds projecting on them the aggression they’re too afraid to unleash on their bosses.

Daniel Radcliffe has guns for hands in the first trailer for his long-awaited action flick, Guns Akimbo
Guns Akimbo has been a meme for so long that it's been pretty easy to forget that it's an actual film that exists and that will be happening to (some of) our eyes in just a couple of months time, but having only popped up at Fantastic Fest last year to some bemused reviews, this upcoming potential eyesore is sure to be catnip to those of us who find ourselves ferociously defending the likes of Shoot 'Em Up and Nerve in polite company.
Deathgasm's Jason Lei Howden is behind the bonkers actioner, in which former Pottah Daniel Radcliffe finds himself taking part in a deadly game against Samara Weaving who, if you saw last year's Ready or Not, seems to be quite good at deadly games.
Here's the official synopsis,...

Daniel Radcliffe is far away from his Harry Potter days in the new trailer for action flick Gun Akimbo.
Directed by Jason Lei Howden, the film reveals a near-future world where Internet comments may have truly deadly results. The high-energy trailer has tones of The Purge, but seems like it will have a more comedic flair.
The official synopsis for the film notes: “Nerdy video game developer is a little too fond of stirring things up on the internet with his caustic, prodding, and antagonizing comments. One night, he makes...

Daniel Radcliffe is among the child-actors of the last decade who has managed to emerge mostly unscathed as an adult talent though he's done so via a series of oddball roles in movies that are far from mainstream. He's been Ginsberg, Igor, a farting corpse, and the latest appears to be another example of Radcliffe playing by his own rules.
In Guns Akimbo, the sophomore effort from Deathgasm director Jason Lei Howden, Radcliffe plays Miles, a video game developer who finds himself at the centre of a streaming action game with guns welded to his hands. There's a point, something about a girl, but that seems beside the point.
Along with Radcliffe, the movie also stars Ned Dennehy and Samara Weaving who had a breakout last year with Ready or Not.

Could you imagine a world where watching people die for your entertainment was the norm? Twitch would be one hell of a different place if so. Well, “Guns Akimbo” will show people fighting for their survival in tournament based death matches.

Guns Akimbo is an action comedy from the creative bosom of Jason Lei Howden, due to make its stateside debut on February 28th. It stars Daniel Radcliffe as Miles Harris, whose “mundane existence is turned upside-down when he finds himself enrolled on a dark net website that forces complete strangers to fight in a city-wide game of death so that their gladiatorial battles can be live-streamed worldwide to a fanatical audience.” Something tells me the Wikipedian who wrote that synopsis didn’t pull it from an official press release.
The trail of thought that Radcliffe springs to mind for me seems terribly unfair, but I have a paucity of time and a paucity of alternative conversational topics. If you hadn’t already gathered, you are indeed about to read the meaningless word-babble of a simpleton, so strap in.
The thought in question concerns legacies. Can’t fight them, can’t escape them.

Just when you think, "they've done it all", someone will come up with some other crazy-as-shit idea and turn it into a movie. The next evolution in the wild action comedy subgenre is a movie titled Guns Akimbo, this time coming from New Zealand (though it was filmed partially in Germany in addition to New Zealand). Guns Akimbo is the second feature film from a New Zealand visual effects artist-turned-filmmaker named Jason Lei Howden, following up his debut film Deathgasm from 2015. The crazy-as-shit concept in this one involves a random guy waking up one day with guns bolted to both of his hands - he can't remove them or do anything because they're drilled right into his bones. But, why? What happens next? Will he survive? You'll find out in Guns Akimbo, which is as totally insane and as totally entertaining as that concept sounds. Set in the near future,...

For years, the moviemaking industry has been obsessed with video games. For even longer they've been obsessed with inserting social commentary into films where it's largely unexpected. Guns Akimbo fits the mold of holding both elements tightly wound together with mixed results. While it begins firing with both barrels (had to be said) in regards to its manic action set pieces, it loses steam when trying to find footing in a message. Thankfully, it's kept afloat by two sterling, go-for-broke lead performances.

How did “Guns Akimbo” director and writer Jason Lei Howden convince Daniel Radcliffe to play a character with guns nailed to his hands? Easy, he sent him the script.
Radcliffe joined Howden and “Ready or Not’s” breakout star Samara Weaving in the Variety’s Toronto Film Festival studio, presented by AT&T to talk the limits of acting with weapons attached to your hands, snorting vitamin C and the worst parts of the internet.
“Guns Akimbo” takes place in a world where a nefarious underground internet movement, called “skism,” live casts random strangers fighting each other to the death. When the morbid streaming service turns its eye on Radcliffie’s mild-mannered, troll-hating desk jockey, Miles, things get even more violent. His character is kidnapped, knocked out and revived with guns literally bolted to his hands. Now stuck inside this real-life, video game hell, he must fight or die.
