A gripping episode of ABC’s “20/20” delves into a spine-chilling case that unfolded in Laredo, Texas, where Melissa Ramirez and Claudine Luera were discovered murdered and abandoned on the city’s outskirts. Authorities were quick to recognize the eerie similarities between the crime scenes, leading them to a nightmarish conclusion: a serial killer was haunting the city’s red-light district.
As the investigation deepened, the shocking truth emerged – one of their own, border patrol supervisor Juan David Ortiz, was actively assisting in the hunt for the very serial killer he was pretending to help catch. ABC News correspondent John Quiñones takes viewers through the compelling narrative of the case, offering exclusive insights into the investigation.
The two-hour special unfolds with key witness testimony, police body camera footage, and an in-depth exploration of Ortiz’s nearly nine-hour interrogation, which eventually led to his astonishing confession.

The third of four victims allegedly killed by Border Patrol agent Juan David Ortiz, who authorities are calling a serial killer, has been identified as 28-year-old transgender woman Janelle Ortiz. Though they share the same last name, she was not related to her killer.
Janelle was one of two victims authorities believe were killed just hours after a fifth victim, Erika Pena, escaped and gave a description to police, and before Ortiz was apprehended.

Chicago – If your ideal vision of prom is best represented by “Carrie,” then odds are Disney’s “Prom” is not for you. In fact, if you are a high schooler, were a high schooler or may become a high schooler, “Prom” is guaranteed to strike you as monumentally childish. It’s the sort of harmless dreck so mediocre and generic that it could’ve been made in any time period. In a sense, it’s timeless dreck.
See if this sounds familiar: a perky popular overachiever finds herself falling for the long-haired brooding loser with a motorcycle and a criminal record. “He’s a rude, arrogant menace!” she shouts early in the film, thus solidifying that she will undoubtedly end up in his arms at the final fade-out. Seriously, how many “Breakfast Club” retreads and Disneyfied teenage dramas does the human race need?

The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wasteoids, dweebies, dickheads — they all adore him. They think he’s a righteous dude.
–Grace (Edie McClurg), “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”
Though we might recognize and relate to the particular type of high schoolers Grace refers to in her famous roll call, the categories of cliques and the terms to denote them have changed since 1986. For example, I don’t think the emo hipster was a prominent enough breed to warrant its own category back in Ferris’ day. Nor does “mathlete” show up in Grace’s inventory, but by the time Tina Fey brought us “Mean Girls,” it was in common use.
But simply redesignating the categories might be missing a bigger point about the difference between high school categories of then and now. The landscape has changed more significantly than that. Now it seems though the groups still exist,...

For those who are in high school, or maybe work at one, the release of Disney's sweet and wholesome "Prom" movie kicks off that heavily hyped season of dress shopping, date anxiety and general excitement that surrounds one of America's most storied traditions.
When MTV News caught up with the film's stars, we asked them to discuss the challenging task of asking someone to prom and what should be done in order to get a prospective date to say "yes."
"An elaborate way," Janelle Ortiz said. "I think it has to be an elaborate way, because you're going to remember prom for the rest of your life."
"It's got to be creative," Joe Adler added. "Throw some effort on it.

How well do you remember your high school prom? No matter how good or bad the experience, yours likely could easily have been one of the various story lines in Disney’s newest live-action endeavor, “Prom” (written by Katie Wech and directed by Joe Nussbaum).
The film follows several high school students as the few weeks left before their senior prom tick away. Nova (Aimee Teegarden) — senior class president, head of the prom-planning committee and all-around good girl — wants to have the ideal prom experience, one where the cliques and torrid relationships of high school melt away “for one perfect moment.” Her plans are thwarted when a...

The idea behind Disney's new movie Prom is that every couple has a story, and most of those stories-- young love, new love, breakups-- are being told in this multi-stranded narrative based around the big event at one Michigan high school. But not everyone who goes to prom is part of a longstanding couple or part of a couple at all, and three of the main characters in Prom are what you might call floaters: Lloyd (Nicholas Braun), who is trying everything he can think of to get a date; Ali (Janelle Ortiz), the class gossip who's focused on knowing everyone else's business; and laid-back Rolo (Joe Adler), who swears his super hot girlfriend from Canada will show up in time to be his date. All three get some of the best comedic moments in the movie, and in person they seem to get along as three class clowns might...

Ah, prom, that yearly event that forces boys into tuxedos, girls into gowns and parents into renting limos. It’s a carefree, lighthearted final romp with your high school classmates before you’re off to college or jobs or whatever else comes after graduation. Or, if you listen to television and movies, it’s the single most transcendent evening that will ever grace the life of a young person (bar/bah mitzvahs be damned!).
This is most certainly the case for Disney’s Prom, a movie whose all-caps title shows just how much is at stake. The film opens with voice-over provided by Nova Prescott (Amiee Teegarden, from the Friday Night Lights television series) explaining that prom is the apex of all things high school, spoken over a montage of photos of the cast as they go through their fictional high school careers. It’s indicative of the film to come,...

Several intersecting stories unfold at one high school as the big dance approaches; ‘Prom’ portrays the precarious passage from high school to independence as some relationships unravel and others ignite. Fellow seniors Mei (Yin Chang) and Tyler (De’Vaughn Nixon) harbor secrets, while others face all the insecurity and anticipation that surrounds one of high school’s most seminal events. Prom is such a magical time… You get to dress up, hang out with friends, and hope that they boy/girl of your dreams will dance with you!
