Prince Harry is sending a message to Netflix, but whether or not it is an intentional snub is yet to be seen.
Netflix has been good to Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, over the last few years.
Harry and Meghan are in year four of their five-year 100 million dollar deal with the popular streaming service Netflix, according to the Guardian.
As reported by Monsters and Critics, there is speculation that Netflix may extend the deal. Bela Bajaria, a creative at Netflix, shared some projects the couple is working on.
The chief content creator shared that Harry and Meghan are working and “they…have… a movie in development, a [scripted] series” with Brandon Riegg, Vice President of Unscripted and Documentary Series at Netflix.
Harry would want to protect that relationship, but instead, he allowed a competitor, Hulu, to stream one of his documentaries.

Former NBC Universal Television Entertainment chairman Jeff Gaspin is taking a job as VP of unscripted series at Netflix — reporting to Netflix VP of nonfiction series Brandon Riegg. It’s a bit of a reversal for the two execs: In 2010, Riegg joined NBC as vice president of alternative series & development, reporting to the heads of alternative programming there, who in turn reported to Gaspin.
It’s a return to the executive ranks for Gaspin, who most recently ran Gaspin Media as president. It was there that his output included Netflix’s “The Tinder Swindler,” as well as its “Rhythm & Flow.” His other credits included “The First Lady.”
“Jeff is such a huge talent, with so much experience across unscripted and television in general, and I couldn’t be more excited that he’s joining us,” said Riegg. “From ‘Rhythm & Flow’ to ‘Tinder Swindler,’ he’s already been part of the...

Netflix is coming off a big last week. The streamer kicked off its Q4 earnings day last Tuesday by announcing a landmark 10-year deal with Tko Group Holdings for WWE‘s Monday Night Raw valued at an estimated $5 billion. Hours later, Netflix released strong fourth-quarter results to end 2023 with more than 260 million subscribers worldwide.
Two days later, a lawsuit raised disturbing allegations of rape, sex trafficking and more against Vince McMahon, the former majority owner of WWE who has been the face of the league for decades. Within 36 hours, McMahon was out as executive chairman of WWE parent company Tko Group Holdings amid whispers of pressure from Tko’s newest media partner, Netflix.
During an exclusive Next on Netflix press event last night, Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria was asked whether the streamer has concerns about the horrific accusations against McMahon who had previously paid more than $12M to women over alleged sexual misconduct.

Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria was a mix of confident and casual on Jan. 31 as she led a very network TV-like presentation to explain why Netflix is nothing like a traditional TV network.
“No entertainment company has tried to program with this ambition — for this many tastes, cultures and languages. Ever,” Bajaria told a few dozen entertainment reporters who gathered Wednesday at the streamer’s Tudum Theater in Hollywood for a TV and film preview event dubbed “Next on Netflix 2024.” She cited the sheer scale of the company’s 260 million worldwide subscriber base as something that can’t be compared to past network TV dynasties.
“We can’t define ourselves narrowly, even though many of you would always like us to. But we can’t. We have to think much more broadly about who’s watching and what they want,” Bajaria said. “The biggest mistakes I see creative...

The move is somewhat of a surprise given the success of Netflix’s recent reality pipeline.

Netflix’s Brandon Riegg, VP of unscripted and documentary series, spoke about the streamer’s dive into sports-themed content and the smashing success of “Beckham” — its docuseries chronicling the life and marriage of famed footballer David Beckham and Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice — at Content London on Wednesday.
Riegg said Netflix did not give editorial control away on “Beckman.” “We retained final cut in no different than any of the sports leagues,” he said, adding that Netflix “talked to all of the talent and partners. We want them to feel invested and as a stakeholder, but also understand that our job and the producer’s job is to tell the best version of that story and to encompass and cover whatever they think is meaningful.”
The executive also revealed Beckham didn’t watch the series until after it had premiered on Netflix. “I don’t think he or Victoria had seen any of it.

David Beckham did not watch his Netflix documentary until it premiered, the streamer’s head of unscripted has revealed.
Brandon Riegg used the revelation to talk up how Netflix retained editorial control on the series, speaking to a debate in the docs world that has caught fire since last year’s Harry & Meghan documentary.
The former football star’s Studio 99 outfit produced the hit series but Riegg said “we did not give away full editorial control and retained the final cut.”

After winning the Super Bowl this February, Patrick Mahomes is spending the summer on Netflix. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is one of the three leads in the streamer’s newly-announced docuseries “Quarterback,” set to premiere later this year.
“Quarterback” will focus on Mahomes, Kirk Cousins from the Minnesota Vikings, and Marcus Mariota of the Atlanta Falcons, and their respective journeys across the 2022-2023 NFL season, which ended in Mahomes winning the Super Bowl and being declared the game’s Mvp. All three had significant seasons this year, with Mahomes setting a record for total offense, Cousins leading the Vikings to an NFC North Division title in a comeback, and Mariota taking the role of starting quarterback in his first season with the Falcons. The show will provide access to the players on and off the field, as well as shining a light on their family life.

Emmy-winning “Squid Game” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is giving the Netflix reality series “Squid Game: The Challenge” the green light.
Following backlash to the news that the indictment of capitalism found in the life-or-death “Squid Game” contest would be turned into a reality competition series for the streamer, Hwang clarified that the 4.56 million cash prize for the separate series does not undercut his intentions with the scripted drama.
“I think that even though our show does carry quite a heavy message — and I know that there are some concerns of taking that message and creating it into a reality show with a cash prize,” Hwang said backstage at the 2022 Emmys, via Variety. “However, I feel like when you take things too seriously, that’s really not the best way to go for the entertainment industry. It doesn’t really set a great precedent.”
