John Suits, director of 2014′s The Scribbler – a personal favourite – is back behind the camera for Pandemic, a first-person look at a zombie outbreak that takes the tropes of the genre and pushes them through the eyes of a modern-day video game…
Set in the very-near future (CCTV footage carries a 2017 date), Pandemic sees a virus of epic proportions carving its way across the planet, wiping out entire cities. There are more infected than uninfected, and humanity is losing its grip on survival. Its only hope is finding a cure and keeping the infected contained. Lauren is a doctor who, after the fall of New York, arrives in Los Angeles to lead the hunt for uncontaminated civilian survivors. But nothing can prepare her crack team for the...

Earlier this month, John Suits' first-person apocalypse thriller Pandemic saw release. While in my review I lamented that it's becoming harder and harder to impress with zombie fare in a world jammed packed with it, I still found the film's Pov approach did add an interesting new flavour to the sub genre and there were some punchy moments of both intense action and creepy suspense that stood out.

Hey there, creeps! Pull up a coffin and gather ’round, because die-rector John Suits and Producer Gabe Cowan just stepped across my dismal doorstep to chat up their latest flick Pandemic!
Famous Monsters. Welcome, welcome, my fiends; please take a load off… mind that throw pillow; it’s genuine werewolf hide. Anyway, let’s get down to brass tacks. Pandemic, how did that come to be?
John Suits. We were reading through a bunch of scripts looking for our next projects and came across Dustin T. Benson’s script, Viral (the name was later changed to Pandemic), which was on the 2012 Bloodlist. We loved the story and the idea of shooting a movie in the style of a First Person Shooter.
Gabe Cowan. At the time we were looking for something fun and different for John to dig his visual mind into. We’ve always been guys who like to try new and different things.

Pandemic is a found footage film that never manages to feel like one because of it’s passion. Every little detail has been looked after here, and that might be half the reason it works. The beautiful sense of place, and gory action makes for a piece of worthwhile piece.
The plot here is simple. A few operatives are sent into a quarantine zone to retrieve a lost team. Lauren (Rachel Nichols) is the protagonist, and the audience Pov character (quite literally) but is hiding something
The fact is found footage is best used to either allow for creeping horror (as in Paranormal Activity 1) or putting the audience in a full on immersive intense situation (as in Cloverfield). Pandemic might benefit from falling a little bit into both. Pandemic does have a fast pace allowing only some of the suspense to really pay off, but...

*an online screener of this film was provided by XLRator Media. Director: John Suits. Writers: Dustin T. Benson. Cast: Rachel Nichols, Missi Pyle, Alfie Allen, Mekhi Phifer and Paul Guilfoyle. There are a number of zombie themed films in the horror genre. Some are better than others. Writer Dustin T. Benson borrows some of the better ideas from films such as 28 Days Later (2002), Dawn of the Dead (2004) and [Rec] (2007). Meanwhile, director John Suits shows all of the action through helmet cams'. This helps amp up thrills in these scenes. However, the film lacks believability, with a four man crew entering into the zombie Heart of Darkness. A pretty standard zombie thriller, Pandemic strings together a number of thought experiments; the result is slightly flat. A doctor has escaped the ravages of a viral pandemic in New York. In Los Angeles, Lauren (Rachel Nichols) is not much better off. The violent infected are roaming the streets,...

I hate making claims like the one you’re about to read, but here goes nothing: Pandemic is the Alien Outpost of 2016 – assuredly my most inconsequential critical comparison. “Alien Outpost” will mean nothing to the hordes who never discovered its existence, and I’m confident that many of you might never have heard of a little first-person thriller called Pandemic until now. But that’s why I’m here! It’s my job to constantly chug away at a never-ending pile of horror’s lesser publicized efforts while insomnia sets in and the voices keep me company.
In this who’s who of “where are they now” talents from Hollywood’s yesteryear, director John Suits dives head-first into a zombie plague that’s a little bit 28 Days Later, a tad Battlefield La (in feel), and reminiscent of Rec (not in quality, though). Beginning as any video game would (an introductory tutorial...

Tagline: "You are Humanity's Last Stand." As Armstrong Williams stated: "if it bleeds, it leads." In this case, a distraught mother pays the ultimate price. The promotional material for the apocalyptic Pandemic continues to show dire situations. This film is slated for an early April release, through XLRator Media. And, Pandemic stars Rachel Nichols (Alex Cross), Mekhi Phifer (Dawn of the Dead) and Alfie Allen. Dustin T. Benson developed the script, with John Suits directing. The film's latest clip is hosted here. Fans of zombified feature are surely starting to piece together the film's storyline. For others, a virus is going global, turning the infected into bloodthirsty animals. A team of scientists and researchers are tasked with entering a quarantined zone, to find clues for possible immunization. However, an army of killers stand in this team's way. The film has been shot with the viewer as the protagonist. Viewers will...

The Scribbler
Release Date: Theaters, VOD, and iTunes September 19th Written By: Dan Schaffer Directed By: John Suits Starring: Katie Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, Eliza Dushku
Man o’ man, creeps. What we have here is a lil’ independent gem that serves as one of the most original and entertaining superhero origin films I’ve seen in many a day!
But I’m getting a bit ahead of myself… ya see, at first, The Scribbler plays out like a kind of murder mystery (albeit a surreal and ultra-stylized one), as Suki (Katie Cassidy), a young girl with multiple personalities, arrives at Juniper Tower, a boarding home for recently released mental patients—all of whom have their own unique quirks (think Arkham Asylum subdivided into low-rent housing).
After Suki arrives and does a lil’ of the ol’ self-medicating (which in this case involves her eliminating individual personas from her psyche via a machine...
