After scoring the scoop on the Atlanta set of Necessary Roughness from Ep Kevin Dowling and actors Mehcad Brooks and Scott Cohen, Sean McKenna is now here to wrap up his interviews with various cast members from this USA hit.
And who should finish it off by the leading lady herself, Callie Thorne.

Thorne's excitement and enthusiasm for a second season was as infectious as her smile when she talked about slipping back into the role of caring therapist, Dr. Dani Santino.
"This was the first time coming back into the second season of a show, being number-one on the call sheet and I was very nervous about that... really I think what our cast, what we all respond to the most is laughing with each other and even if it’s dramatic scenes or silly scenes, that’s how we get into it with each other and I...

Callie Thorne, who stars in the new USA hit "Necessary Roughness," admits she was worried about headlining a series after so long as an ensemble player. "It seemed very daunting to me. I liked being part of the supporting layer that is there to push the 'A' storyline along." Inspired by New York Jets psychologist Donna Dannenfelser, Thorne plays Dr. Dani, a recently divorced Long Island mom, juggling her home life with her new job as a therapist for the fictional New York Hawks. This is just the latest in a line of tough-talking women for Thorne that included roles on NBC's lauded "Homicide: Life on the Street" and FX's "Rescue Me." As she tells senior editors Rob Licuria and Chris Beachum, "They've all had a lot of sass; they've had a lot of balls." Meeting the woman that inspired her character, Callie admits to being "very nervous; and it...

USA Network Dr. Donna Dannenfelser with husband Buzz Dannenfelser and actress Concetta Tomei (who plays Angela)
Dr. Donna Dannenfelser doesn’t coddle her patients. A psychotherapist based in Long Island, her straight-talk no-nonsense approach gave her entree to the world of professional athletes and high profile clients beginning in the 1990s. Her life and her work is the inspiration for USA Network’s newest show “Necessary Roughness.” In the series, Dannenfelser is renamed Dr. Dani Santino and played by Callie Thorne.

Watch out, leading men of USA Network. Callie Thorne is coming through.
Thorne stars as psychotherapist Dr. Danielle Santino in USA's new summer series "Necessary Roughness," premiering Wednesday, June 29.
Dr. Dani's life unravels after she find her husband cheating and must tackle single parenthood. She takes on the challenge of rehabilitating a football player (played by "True Blood's" Mehcad Brooks) whose misbehavior off the field threatens his career. Soon, she becomes the go-to therapist for other high profile athletes.
The show is actually inspired by the real life story of Dr. Donna Dannenfelser, the show's supervising producer.
"It wasn't so much about research and researching her actual history," Thorne explains. "What was important to me mostly was I just wanted to soak up her spirit because I think that's partly what makes her so extraordinary and her story so extraordinary."
Thorne continues, "You know though the show isn't a documentary,...

Craig Shapiro had to have Callie Thorne.
Like a general manager who sets his sights on the free agent most suitable to his team, Shapiro wrote Necessary Roughness - which debuts June 29 on USA - with the former Rescue Me star in mind.
But there was a problem for Shapiro and his co-creating wife, Liz Kruger: Thorne was signed to another series. Should they wait three months to see if her pilot was picked up? Or move ahead with an alternative actress?
After auditioning over 120 possibilities, Shapiro chose the former option. When Thorne's new show was not picked up, and after she sent the staff a tape from New York, Necessary Roughness had its leading lady.
Why the focus on landing Thorne?
"Her voice on Rescue Me and on The Wire, she had the right sound for the character and the right attitude," Shapiro said during my set visit this week.
