Netflix is teaming up with a TV legend, Norman Lear, for a new series, tentatively titled The Corps. It will be led by 13 Reasons Why and Parenthood alum Miles Heizer. The comedic drama will be executive produced by Lear alongside Andy Parker, Brent Miller, Rachel Davidson, Scott Hornbacher, and Sony Pictures Television. Set in 1990, The Corps follows Cameron Cope (Heizer), a bullied, gay high school student who joins the Marine Corps with his straight best friend, Ray (Liam Oh). While these two best friends plunge into Marine Corps boot camp, where landmines are both literal and metaphorical, they join a platoon of young men on a harrowing journey of transformation. Representing Focus Features at this year’s The Contenders London was this year’s not-so-surprise Brit hit Downton Abbey, which brought producer Liz Trubridge, actor Michael C Fox — who plays footman Andy Parker — and costume designer Anna Robbins to the stage. Speaking to Deadline’s Peter White, the trio confirmed that bringing the popular TV show to the screen had been no easy task.
“I think we started talking about it probably during series five,” said Trubridge. “We knew were going to wrap up in the next season, we had an idea for the story, and we really, really wanted to achieve it, but we knew it was going to be an incredibly difficult task because no one in their right mind sets out to do a feature film with 20 main characters. So we just thought, ‘Well, we’re gonna do it, but if we’re going to do it,...

Father Of Alison Parker Accuses YouTube Of Promoting Conspiracy Theories About His Daughter’s Murder
The father of Virginia-based local news correspondent Alison Parker, who was shot and killed on air in 2015, is working with the Georgetown Law Civil Rights Clinic to push Google into better addressing YouTube’s longtime problem with conspiracy theory content.
In an opinion piece for the Washington Post published today, Andy Parker says he found a “rabbit hole of painful and despicable” YouTube videos about his daughter, “including claims that Alison had plastic surgery and was living a secret life in Israel.”
After Alison’s death, Andy and his wife Barbara began publicly campaigning for increased gun control in the U.S. Like many people tied to recent shootings (notably school shootings like those at Sandy Hook and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School), they subsequently faced an onslaught of accusations on social media platforms that their daughter’s death was faked as part of a “false flag” attack arranged by the government.
