Edward Aschoff, a college football reporter for ESPN since 2011, died on Tuesday at age 34 after a battle with pneumonia, ESPN reported.
Aschoff was diagnosed with pneumonia shortly after covering the Nov. 30 Big Ten game between Ohio State and the University of Michigan, as he wrote in a Dec. 2 Instagram post.
“We are very sorry to have to share the devastating news of the tragic passing of friend and ESPN colleague Edward Aschoff,” the network said in a statement. “He died earlier today, his 34th birthday. Our thoughts are with his loved ones, including his fiancee Katy.”

After graduating from the University of Florida in 2008, Aschoff covered Gators football for The Gainesville Sun. He joined ESPN in 2011 as an Atlanta-based SEC reporter for ESPN.com.
