The just-concluded 2015 official ratings period has given all three commercial networks something to crow about, despite the continued shrinkage of free-to-air audiences.
New and returning Australian dramas performed strongly for the Seven and Nine Networks while Network Ten had just one fresh drama, the FremantleMedia Australia telemovie Mary: The Making of a Princess.
The Seven Network was No. 1 in primetime for the ninth year running, Seven was the most watched primary channel and 7Two the most popular digital channel.
My Kitchen Rules (2.473 million) was the top-rating regular program and 800 Words (2.103 million) the most successful new series and new drama.
Seven also scored handsomely with Catching Milat (2.55 million). Peter Allen: Not The Boy Next Door (2.36 million), The X Factor (1.95 million). House Rules (1.86 million) and Winter (1.57 million).
The Nine Network claimed the crown as No. 1 in the key demographics of 25-54, 18-49 and 16-39 for the fourth successive year.

Sadly, two more acts were eliminated tonight — but luckily we saw an amazing performance from One Direction to cheer us up! Read on for more details.

One Direction Performs On ‘The X Factor’
The boys of One Direction came home Nov. 21, as they performed “Story Of My Life” on The X Factor, the very franchise that first spawned them three years ago. The performance was technically recorded on Nov. 20, then aired during the live results show, but that didn’t make their electrifying rendition of any less memorable.
All five Directioners – Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne – were in rare form, crooning the emotional lyrics over the hordes of screaming fangirls. 1D’s performance was the perfect...

Steve Brookstein has expressed his disappointment that The X Factor hasn't included him on its upcoming Greatest Hits album.
The singer won the first series back in 2004 under the guidance of Simon Cowell, but has since fallen out with the Syco boss and has frequently criticised the talent show.

Scary Spice, a.k.a. Melanie Brown, has apparently been banned from working on "Australia's Got Talent," the down-under version of the talent competition show for which Brown currently judges in the U.S.
The Australian AP reports that the Nsw Supreme Court ruled that Seven Network, the network that broadcast's the Australian "X Factor," had an exclusive agreement with Brown in regards to the "Factor."
When she signed an agreement with Nine to judge "Got Talent" after believing she was not returning to the "X Factor," she violated said agreement with Seven and is banned from working on a rival station until Jan. 31, 2014.
It remains to be seen if Brown will end up back on "The X Factor," but either way, Nine has to find a replacement on "Got Talent."

She’s definitely one of the most in-demand stars in the land down under, and Melanie Brown's multiple shows are warring over her.
A judge has signed a restraining order preventing the former Spice Girl from appearing on Channel Nine’s new version of “Australia’s Got Talent,” despite an official report that she’d joined the cast.
The reason? Channel Seven already has the rights to Melanie for their program “The X Factor,” through 2014, so it would be unfair competition.
Furthermore, the court ordered Mel’s hubby Stephen Belafonte not to “assist, induce, or otherwise procure Brown” to enter into a deal with anyone other than Channel Seven.
A rep from the network declared, "As the matter is before the courts, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage."

Dannii MInogue has reportedly signed up to be a judge on the Australian version of The X Factor.
The former UK judge is said to have closed a six-figure deal with producers to join Ronan Keating on the judging panel, The Mirror reports.
Minogue turned down an offer to return to the UK series last year, but was reportedly "delighted" to be offered a spot on the Australian counterpart.
The 41-year-old is expected to be formally announced as a new judge on the series tomorrow (March 19).
A source said: "Dannii sees Australia as her home, and so this offer works perfectly for her family life with her son Ethan. Being on the Australian show also means she doesn't need to cross paths with Simon Cowell, and that is no bad thing either."
"He has very little to do with the Aussie version and she didn't even need to speak to him about this deal.

ITV has laid out plans for a new music-themed entertainment show in the same vein as Stars In Their Eyes.
Your Face Sounds Familiar will feature celebrities impersonating music stars in a new Saturday night format.
The show is a mix between Stars In Their Eyes and The X Factor and the format has been a success in Spain, Italy, Ukraine, Portugal, Romania and Chile.
Seven celebrities will perform over six weeks, with a panel of judges giving them points each week. Viewers will then vote for the winner.
While the same celebrities will feature each week, they will impersonate a different popstar in each episode. The judging panel will also do group performances.
The first week sees contestants choosing their popstar, but a random selection will be decided by a buzzer in further weeks.
Stars In Their Eyes ran from 1990 to 2006 on ITV, featuring non-celebrity contestants impersonating musicians. However,...

The Ten Network took out full page newspaper ads for its heavily pumped debut of American Idol but the program delivered an average result in the ratings.
It ran 15th for the night with average five city metro audience of 539,000, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTAM.
The show ran fourth between 7.30pm and 8.30pm – behind Seven’s tennis, Nine’s The Big Bang Theory and 7.30 on the ABC – but lifted to second in from 8.30pm to 9.30pm to beat Nine’s Person Of Interest and the ABC’s Nigellisima.
But Ten claimed it was happy with the result and has moved it to a 7.30pm and not the scheduled 8.30pm start tonight.
A Ten spokesman said the talent show – featuring Keith Urban as one judge – lifted its target 18-49 audience by 33 per cent compared to the same time last year, and ran fifth for the night in that demographic.

Less than 20 TV shows have reached more than one million metro viewers in a week for the first time since the current OzTAM system began 12 years ago.
The milestone was hit in week 47 of the TV ratings year – the week before last.
When the consolidated ratings – which cover both overnight viewing and catchup recordings viewed over the next seven days – were issued, the 20th most watched show of the week was Seven’s airing of the magic special Dynamo: Magician Impossible. Its consolidated audience was 998,000.
While top 20 shows will have scored below 1m viewers outside of the 40 official weeks of the rating year several times before, this is the first time it has occurred while the networks have been in competition.
If The X Factor had not been split into three shows for ratings purposes, two more shows in the two 20 would have also scored less than 1m.

"This might be the best episode of The Voice we've ever had." - Blake Shelton
Last week I was one of the screaming fans in the studio at the taping of The Voice (I mouthed a lot of the screams, I wasn't trying to lose my voice.). The performances gave reasons to yell, believe me. I tried to write notes on a folded piece of paper but found myself way too caught up in the beauty and magic that was happening on stage. I was truly entertained and that's what this show is all about.
Melanie Martinez, Seven Nation Army
When I performed this song last season on The Voice, I didn't know that it was the first time that Jack White had given permission for this song to be performed by someone else on television. Though I had a lot of fun performing it, Melanie's arrangement is my favorite rendition I've heard hands-down.

Seven’s coverage of The Melbourne Cup race was watched by an average audience of 2.664m yesterday – significantly up on last year.
However, the real number of viewers is likely to have been significantly higher because OzTAM only measures viewing at home, so does not account for people watching the race at work or in the pub.
Viewing was particularly strong in Melbourne where OzTAM recorded 1.354m viewers.
According to the preliminary overnight metro ratings, the presentation to winning horse Green Moon rated 1.951m while the pre-race programming rated 1.631m.
Last year’s race rated 2.3m for Seven.
The race was also the top program across all three key advertising demographics of 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54, while the presentation was second in 16-39 and 18-49. Seven’s The X Factor was second in the 25-54 demo.
Seven held the top seven ratings positions across the entire day, as it did last year.

‘Australia’s Got Talent’ Finds a New Home The Nine Network has picked up Australia’s Got Talent less than 24 hours after the Seven Network pulled the plug on the show after six seasons. Ratings for the FremantleMedia-produced show based on Simon Cowell’s format flagged this year against Nine’s The Voice. But it was a consistent ratings winner last year, averaging 1.8 million viewers per episode. Nine intends to freshen up the format and hire new judges; the judges on Seven’s show were singers Dannii Minogue and Brian McFadden and shock jock Kyle Sandilands. Nine Network has announced that it has picked up Australia’s Got Talent after the talent show franchise was dropped by Seven.
Although the show was included in Seven’s highlights reel for 2013, the network has now indicated it does not have a place for it in its schedule. Seven also airs The X Factor, which has been rating far more strongly than the last series of Agt.
Agt, produced by Fremantle Media, was hurt by running in the same period of Nine’s The Voice, which is produced by Shine.
Yesterday’s news that Seven was dropping Agt briefly increased the likelihood that Ten would bring Australian Idol back. Ten has already said it will air American Idol next year, increasing speculation that it was considering a return for Australian Idol if audiences take to the Us version which features Keith Urban among the judges. Urban was previously on The Voice.

The Grammy nominated songstress made it 'the old fashioned way,' but she tells HollywoodLife.com Exclusively that shows like 'The X Factor' are good for the music business. Despite having come up the hard way, Jewel, 38 - who briefly lived in her car during the early struggles of her career - doesn't begrudge new artists who have found quick success on shows like The X Factor. She talked to Hollywoodlife.com, Exclusively, at the Oct. 10 premiere of Seven Pyschopaths, hosted by The Cinema Society with Hugo Boss and Appleton Estate. In fact, the singer feels like these contests have exposed audiences to unconventional artists who might not have had a chance otherwise. "It's good for the industry. It reminds [everyone] that people care about singing - and even a show like America's Got Talent or The Voice - lets you know that the way you look doesn't always matter to the American consumer.

Big Brother’s first Tuesday live eviction show did not budge Seven’s ratings winner The X Factor last night.
Due to Nine’s broadcast of the Nrl grand final, no live eviction happened on Sunday’s Big Brother, which took place on Tuesday night instead.
In the first head-to-head of the two shows’ live 7.30pm episodes, the singing competition won the night in total viewers and two of three key ad demographics.
While the X Factor rated 1.471m in total viewers, according to preliminary ratings from OzTam, Big Brother’s eviction show rated 1.056m and its daily show rated 1.027m. The figures are similar to last Sunday’s eviction show, which rated 1.013m, and 1.02m the Sunday before.
However the singing competition show, could not make it a clean sweep of the key advertising demographics, with Big Brother’s live eviction show taking top spot in 16-39, while The X Factor...

The Chaser’s media and news analysis show The Hamster Wheel returned last night, slightly down in the ratings on last year’s debut.
The team’s opening sketch, a mocking show tune, lampooned not only themselves but ABC1′s struggling Wednesday line-up including mentor Andrew Denton’s Randling, Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell and Qi as well as ratings winners such as The Voice and Howzat.
The ABC1 comedy, which aired at 9.10pm, averaged 784,000 viewers across the five city metro markets according to preliminary ratings from OzTam. It was 12th for the night.
Last year’s premiere, which aired at 9.30pm, rated 857,000 and placed 10th for the night. Both season debuts aired after Gruen Planet.
The Hamster Wheel was seventh in 16-39 and eighth in 18-49 and 25-54.
The team also used music and the subject of ratings to promote their season return, parodying Coles’ ‘Down Down’ ad with Status Quo.
