Truth may be stranger than fiction, but it’s often scarier as well. After all, it’s not unusual for real life mysteries and deaths to leave Hollywood in the dust when it comes to producing genuine fear. With that in mind, we’ve previously published a couple of lists celebrating some of the scariest documentaries ever made.
However, there’s no shortage of authentic scares when it comes to filmmaking, and that’s why we’re back with another list recommending six more scary documentaries that horror fans might enjoy. After all, whether you’re into true crime or paranormal investigations, there’s something for everyone when it comes to non-fiction thrills.
As usual, we’ll be abiding by a couple of rules when selecting our movies. First of all, no docs that have been previously featured on any of our lists. Second, we’ll be excluding mockumentaries like...

The Dyatlov Pass Incident is the kind of story that will keep breathlessly speculative true-crime documentaries spinning for years to increasingly limited returns. It contains just about everything a televisual “what if?” show requires to keep viewers engaged for an hour or so: a multitude of tragic victims, an intensely cinematic natural backdrop, a baffling patchwork of clues and evidence, and several possible solutions ranging from likely to absurd which people can choose between. But all the right ingredients do not always produce the best outcome, as Liam Le Guillou’s not quite ready for prime-time documentary “An Unknown Compelling Force” shows.

"Just what were the hikers fleeing from?" 1091 Pictures has unveiled a trailer for a chilling investigative doc called An Unknown Compelling Force, about the mystery of Dyatlov Pass in Russia. You've probably heard of this place before, as they've tried to make horror films about it for years, but it remains a mystery. As it likely will forever. British adventure filmmaker Liam Le Guillou travels under the radar to Russia in search of answers. Braving the dangerous conditions and hundreds of kilometers in sub-polar conditions, the documentary team attempts to reach the very location of the incident, a place the locals call "The Dead Mountain." The film interviews Russian investigators, a former Moscow Times journalist, and friends of the hikers. To uncover the truth, the film also speaks to experts in the US including a former FBI Agent and the former Marin County Coroner to finally reveal the stunning...

1091 Pictures has acquired “An Unknown Compelling Force,” a documentary that explores the mystery behind the brutal deaths of nine student hikers in Russia. The film is directed by Liam Le Guillou and will be released on home entertainment platforms on June 15.
“An Unknown Compelling Force” digs deep into the so-called Dyatlov Pass incident, which took place in the Ural Mountains in 1959. After a group of hikers failed to report back, search parties led by their peers and the Soviet Government uncovered their grizzly remains, which were found a mile from their shredded tent. It appeared as though the hikers fled into the freezing temperatures without their winter clothes or boots. Adding to the mystery, many of the bodies had suffered inexplicable injuries, and some even showed traces of radiation. The case was closed by investigators at the time, who declared that the hikers died from “an unknown compelling force.
