Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul were upset in their respective acting categories, but Breaking Bad won the night’s top prize, taking home its first Emmy for Best Drama. It was an unpredictable night in several major categories: In addition to The Newsroom’s Jeff Daniels taking home the trophy for Best Actor in a Drama and Boardwalk Empire’s Bobby Cannavale winning for Supporting Actor, Veep’s Tony Hale and Nurse Jackie’s Merritt Wever were surprise winners — Wever was so shocked that she practically ran off the stage without delivering an acceptance speech.

Maybe, just maybe, Louis C.K. can do it. Bring home the Emmy for Best Comedy Series, that is.
Comedian Louis C.K.’s free form FX show, Louie, got six Emmy nominations with its biggest score in the category for Outstanding Comedy Series. It was also nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series (Melissa Leo) and Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series (Susan E. Morse, A.C.E., Editor – (“Daddy’s Girlfriend Part 2”).
This was the first time any basic cable show has been nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series and for once stop the domination of network comedies like Modern Family from taking all of the major awards in the comedy categories. Other basic cable comedies like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Psych, and Archer have long been ignored.

At ABC‘s upfront, there were a few things that the network wanted to make sure you knew. 1) They are really impressed with the idea that people are going to watch Rebel Wilson do just about anything, and 2) There isn’t anything they’re happier about than bringing you more episodes of television created by Shonda Rhimes.
On these notes, the network would love for you to know that more Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal are coming your way. These, ABC would like to impress upon you (as advertisers) are really good shows. Because… hellllooo… so many people watch them that we’re bringing them back. But wait, don’t think that you’re as excited as you can get yet, because if those are your favorite shows, then we have a new one for you to fall in love with, Betrayal.
Also on the agenda, and actually looking like they might be interesting,...

I was traveling during the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards last night. Jimmy Kimmel hosted the show, and I heard he was great. I've seen a few clips of the show, and it looked pretty funny. I'm also really happy with the outcome of the winners. I think most everyone that ended up winning deserved it. I was very happy to see Showtime's Homeland take home Best series, actor and actress for Drama, and Modern Family take Best Comedy Series.

Another year, another Hollywood award show where really fancy golden barbecue skewers are handed out. The 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards made for a relatively brisk (well, they stayed under three hours) while fairly predictable (well, at least drama had a new winner) evening. Host Jimmy Kimmel returned for the second time, and opened the show with a skit featuring some of the leading ladies of primetime. It was fitting, considering ladies stole the show in what was otherwise a relatively snoozy affair. Here is a look at the real winners and some should have been winners. Also, of course, the dresses.
Outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series: Julie Bowen, Modern Family
Her mention of nipple covers and sister wives in her acceptance speech felt a little like she was auditioning for her own show on TLC.

Well if you hadn't really heard of Homeland prior to this weekend, you probably have by now. The Showtime series pulled off a major upset at the 64th Annual Emmy Awards last night, winning a large chunk of the major awards in the Drama category over favourites like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. Claire Danes and Damian Lewis both took home awards for Lead Actress and Actor in a Drama Series, while the show also broke Mad Men's four-year win streak for Outstanding Drama Series. Elsewhere, Aaron Paul won his second Emmy for his supporting performance as Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus won Best Lead Actress in a Comedy for Veep. Modern Family still took the Outstanding Comedy Series, however, while the HBO movie Game Change took the Outstanding Mini-Series or TV Movie. Kevin Costner did manage to pick up some...

Jimmy Kimmel
The Emmys in five words: Modern Family. Homeland. Game Change.
But how do we feel about that? Speaking for myself, I'll quote winner Claire Danes's shout-out to her costar Mandy Patinkin: "Holla!"
This year's Emmys -- hosted by the palatable and deadpan Jimmy Kimmel -- was a success, a pleasant affair with dashes of gay goodness thrown in like garlic salt. I giggled right at the start, when nominated actresses Zooey Deschanel, Christina Hendricks, Mindy Kaling, Connie Britton, and a door-busting Kathy Bates comforted host Jimmy Kimmel in the ladies' room and assured him that his bizarre Botox injections weren't hideous. To be fair, I mostly laughed at the actresses, who showed distinct camaraderie, and not the sexist plastic surgery humor, but the bit's quickness set a pace for the evening that never felt like drudgery. For an award show, that's kind of extraordinary.

Last night saw the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards take place in Hollywood, and whilst a lot of the awards were utterly predictable, there were one or two surprises, including British series Downton Abbey receiving a massive four Emmys, Louis Ck (Louie) losing out in the lead actor in a comedy series to Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory, and Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler beating out Hugh Laurie, Jon Hamm and Steve Buscemi in the lead actor in a drama series category. There were actually some pretty fun moments during The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, and it's hard to argue with any of the winners. I think that everyone and every show that took home a award deserved it. I've got no problems with any of the winners at all, at least for any of the shows I actually care about. For me the best moment of the awards was seeing Peter Dinklage take home Best Supporting Actor for his role in A Game of Thrones, and they did a great little comedy sketch with The Office. All in all it was all pretty predictable. What are your thoughts on the list of winners?

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of The Amazing Race, Episode 1.
A new season of the Amazing Race is off and running, and as many of you know by now (and as was first reported here back in December), this season is sub-titled Unfinished Business, with 11 teams returning for another shot at the million dollars. I’ll reiterate my initial response to the Cast List: why are we seeing only teams from Season 12 onward? Nobody from the first 11 seasons warranted an invite?
To the returning readers, Welcome back! It’s nice to see you again. And for those of you new to my Amazing Race Recaps, a hearty welcome as well, and a couple of things you should know: a) the recaps should be up within 30 minutes (often less) of when the show ends on the East Coast, b) the pictures will all have hidden captions underneath, so make sure to...

The teams for The Amazing Race Unfinished Business have been announced, and unsurprisingly, they do not include many of the teams who were in the preview, such as Brook and Claire. However, beside calling Kynt "Kent" (did he change his name?), the announcement does elaborate on the name for this twist by explaining what each team's "unfinished business" is, which is simply the reason they were eliminated, which means that every single team who's ever...

The last three months of 2010 have one common trait which is getting stronger as the year inched closer to holiday season. Despite reasons to gather with family at Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year, a lot of celebrity couples chose to split. Meanwhile, the awards season were shaping up with the announcement of nominees and lots of artists were given "the most" and "-est" titles.

At the end of The Amazing Race 17, it mostly came down to cabs and the order that they left the airport, and in their exit interviews, the final three teams discussed their cab selection and whether it was a well-constructed leg or not. Home-shopping hosts Brook Roberts, 27, and Claire Champlin, 30, may have missed out on becoming The Amazing Race's first all-female champs — but don't think they're disappointed. "We're proud we helped make history. We're so happy for [Nat and Kat] because from Day One, we talked to them and said, 'We're going to be on that podium, so let's help each other out,'" Claire tells TVGuide.com. "To be standing next to them in second place was a huge accomplishment for us." So how close were they to first? Find out below — and if Claire has eaten watermelon since her face-smashing Roadblock.

Nat Strand and Kat Chang are two of the most adorably non-dramatic reality show contestants ever. The 17th season of Amazing Race had its fair share of squabbling couples (Nick and Vicki! Chad and Stephanie!) and passive-aggressive travel shenanigans, but the team of doctors made an inspirational portrait of courageous amiability under fire. Throw in the fact that Nat’s a diabetic with a fear of heights, and that vegetarian Kat had to devour a gloriously weird-looking sheep’s head in Norway, and you’re left with only one conclusion: These women deserved to win. As big finishes go, Dexter's was a nail-biter, leaving us pretty breathless — though tripping over at least a few loose ends along the way. The Amazing Race on the other hand coasted to its finish line with minimal suspense — but maximum satisfaction in crowning the first all-female champs, the likable doctor duo of Nat and Kat, who stayed comfortably in first place for the entire last leg. The unflappably perky Home Shopping hosts Brook and Claire landed in second, amusing themselves and the audience all the way to the end. Everyone seemed pleased, and even the ultra-competitive last-guy-standing Thomas (who ran afoul of an L.A. cabbie who'd never heard of the Internet) took his defeat like a pro.

Nat & Kat have made history as the first all-female team to win The Amazing Race. The doctors scooped the $$1 million prize on Sunday night's season finale of the CBS competition following a smooth journey from Seoul, South Korea to the Los Angeles finish line. Home shopping hosts Brook & Claire took second place, while dating couple Jill & Thomas finished third. Jill & Thomas had been the first team to depart Seoul but the running order was evened out at the airport as everybody waited for the ticket office to open. They then flew more than 6,000 miles to Los Angeles where they took taxis to Pier J at the Port Of Long Beach. "We have run hard and worked hard and played hard this whole time," said Jill. "The girls have a chance to make Amazing Race history but I don't think it's going to happen!" Brook said that if she (more)...

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of the Season Finale of The Amazing Race.Sorry for the delay in getting tonight’s post up, especially for those of you who are used to it being up at 9:30 Et. I’m still on the West Coast, so didn’t even get to watch the episode until it aired here. It’s Finale Night so let’s get right to it…
My Random Thoughts:
- The opening recap of the entire race was pretty much a 3-minute segment saying “Remember that Nick and Chad are both bad people.” The nifty little lingo that Phil used saying teams ‘sank, crashed, and clashed’ all showed video clips featuring Chad. And after seeing the watermelon smash one more time (seriously, I never get tired of it, do you?), we wrapped up Phil’s recap with the trademark eyebrow…now with a ‘ding!’ sound effect.

Last night’s finale of the seventeenth edition of The Amazing Race was not the most dramatic in series history.
Nat and Kat’s victory, while certainly awesome to see, was unfortunately predictable as their lead grew, impressively, throughout the episode.
What the season lacked in drama in the final leg it more than made up for it with an unusually likable cast. Only a handful of contestants were the kind you actively root against and even those were tamed by The Amazing Race standards. Instead we were treated to a cast without a dominant group, but one that was easy to root for.
Take the final three contestants from last night. Most people were likely rooting for either Nat and Kat or Brook and Claire. Does this mean that Jill and Thomas were not likable? Ok, perhaps they were not our favorites, but they were a very deserving team if they did win,...

After 16 seasons, "The Amazing Race" finally has a two-woman team winner. Doctors Nat and Kat crossed the finish line first to win the race on Sunday, December 12 broadcast, thus making a history as the first woman-woman team to ever win the U.S. version.
The odds actually were tipping to this possibility for the final consisted of another woman-woman team. Home Shopping hosts Brook and Claire came second in the race, followed by dating couple Jill and Thomas.
During the final hours of their 32,000 miles journey, the three teams went back from South Korea to Los Angeles, California where they had to do a bungee jump off a giant crane in Port of Long Beach, decorate a float for the Tournament of Roses parade and play a trivia contest with Bob Eubanks.
After four continents and 30 cities, the race ended in Beverly Hills' Greystone Mansion. Nat gave a phone interview to AP,...

Could an all-woman team win The Amazing Race? That was the big question going into tonight’s season finale. On one side: Nat and Kat, a brilliant and classy pair of doctors. On the other: Brook and Claire, twin dynamos of ridiculous energy. Caught in the middle: Jill and Thomas, the divisive (at least among EW.com readers) dating couple who have had a dominating run in the last few legs of the race. Did the ladies succeed? Teams shown in the promo include mother/son Margie and Luke, the Harlem Globetrotters Flight Time and Big Easy, dating Goths Kynt and Vyxin, father/son Mel and Mike, brothers/bull riders Cord and Jet, sisters/athletes Lakisha and Jennfer, poker players Maria and Tiffany, a capella singers Connor and Jonathan, father/daughter Gary and Mallory, father/son Michael and Kevin and home shopping hosts Brook and Claire, both from the most recent season.

['The Amazing Race' - 'Hi. I'm Sorry. I'm in a Race.']
Usually the season finale of 'The Amazing Race' isn't such a nail-biter. In previous seasons, there's always been one team in the finale that makes you scratch your head and wonder how they made it that far, and another team that could've been named the winner a handful of episodes back.
That wasn't the case this season. The three remaining teams were quite evenly matched in skill, although Brook and Claire didn't have the record for winning legs that Jill/Thomas and Nat/Kat had. But, looking at the final three pairs, all deserved their places in the finale. They'd all performed well. So who won?

It's here! It's finally here! The final leg of The Amazing Race! There goes my exclamation point quota. Teams will fly from South Korea to their final destination city: Los Angeles. Really? I guess it's easier to get all the other teams there for the final Pit Stop. I hope everyone ties up at the airport because I don't want anyone (Jill and Thomas) to have an advantage.
Brook and Claire wore their cheetah pants and I couldn't approve more. But we don't know if they're all on the same flight or not; what we do know is that The Amazing Race is going to milk the hell out of that Katy Perry song. Nat and Kat shoot out of the airport in first place, followed by Jill and Thomas then Brook and Claire. It's a real race now!

Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan swears on his passport that season 17's finale, which airs Sunday on CBS, is chock full "memorable and very cool moments." And that's saying a lot considering this season saw a contestant get a runaway watermelon to the face, an on-air proposal, the longest penalty and a team who slept through their pit stop departure time by more than two hours. "It's hard to believe, but this is the first time in our series history that we've ended the race in Los Angeles. Nothing like maneuvering your way to the finish line through L.A.

Dating couple Nick and Vicki were eliminated in the last episode, leaving home shopping hosts Brook and Claire, dating couple Jill and Thomas and doctors Nat and Kat left standing. The last episode ended in Seoul, South Korea, but Elimination Station has shown the eliminated teams arriving in Los Angeles to welcome the final three teams at the finish line.
The final episode title, which are always taken from something a player says over the course of the episode, is "Hi. I'm sorry. I'm in a race." So who do you think is going to win "Amazing Race" 17 and the $1,000,000 prize? Vote now!

Last night’s episode of The Amazing Race, “I’m Surrounded by Ninjas” had some fun aspects to it, but because of Nick and Vicki’s huge deficit, was more like the final leg of the Tour de France. Everyone was racing for first place, but no one was worried about being eliminated. Despite the producers best efforts to make it seem that way.
With Nick and Vicki’s easy elimination, we’re left with the final three teams racing for the one million dollar first place prize. Even more interesting is the 66% chance that an all-female team wins The Amazing Race for the first time in seventeen seasons. With little to discuss from last night’s episode, let’s just dive in to a preview of next Sunday’s finale.

Nick & Vicki have been eliminated from The Amazing Race meaning that Jill & Thomas, Brook & Claire and Nat & Kat will battle for the $$1 million prize in next week's finale. The dating couple were the last team to check-in at the pitstop in South Korea. They had started the leg in Hong Kong with a six-hour penalty and had a speedbump to complete and never managed to make up the time on the other teams. This week's leg saw the remaining four teams traveling 1,300 miles from Hong Kong to Seoul before having to drive themselves to a bridge in the Demilitarized Zone near the North Korean border. Nat & Kat were the first to depart for the airport and thought they had a good chance of making the finale unless they made any "big mistakes". Jill & Thomas were next to leave and also though they were contenders to win although Thomas admitted there...

It was a close call, but one scraped knee, a scraped elbow, a twisted ankle, and a spectacular pen explosion later…I limped to my hotel couch at 7:57. This is my commitment to these recaps, people!

At the beginning of this week’s episode of The Amazing Race titled “I Hate Chinese Food,” Nick admits in an interview that before Vicki he didn’t care about other people’s feelings, but that she has shown him the errors of such an attitude. He continued by tearing up and commenting on what a blessing she has been for him.
Say what?!?!
All we can hope is that interview occurred after this leg. The way it was shown to us suggests that it was a pre-leg interview, but I really hope not. I prefer to see the interview as something that Nick reflected on after a stressful leg and realized what a jerk he was to his amazingly patient girlfriend.
Perhaps I’m giving him too much credit. However, I really don’t want to watch this guy anymore if he said what he did before this leg...
