[Note: With the film set for its digital debut tomorrow, here’s a reposting of our review of Midnight Peepshow from its festival run back in 2022]
British horror cinema has a long-standing tradition of producing some of the best anthologies of all time, in particular in the era of Hammer, Tigon et al. So when a new anthology comes along it can be hard to separate it from history and tradition. But with Midnight Peepshow, filmmakers Andy Edwards, Airell Anthony Hayles, Ludovica Musumeci and Jake West actually tap into British cinematic history, setting their film in the formerly sleazy streets of London’s Soho – a place where, once upon a time, sex and cinema were often intertwined.

One of the earliest films featuring the name Scott Jeffrey, that we reviewed here on Nerdly, was Darker Shades of Elise, a film Jeffrey produced back in 2017 and a film that didn’t really reflect where the rest of the actor turned director/producer’s oeuvre would head. But now Proportion Productions are back, only this time not with a low-budget monster movie, terrifying slasher film or brilliant metaphorical horror. No, with Graphic Desires the company bring us back to another time, the 90s post-Basic Instinct, with another erotic thriller.

A couple months ago, director Kevin Smith released his horror anthology KillRoy Was Here as an Nft. Now writer/director Jonas Odenheimer is bringing us a film that puts a horror twist on the concept of NFTs and crypto currency. The title of Odenheimer’s film is Nft, and a teaser trailer has just arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.
Nft centers on
a group of crypto-savvy millennials who are trying to escape their 9-5s by flipping NFTs as a side hustle. After buying into a supposedly ‘cursed’ Nft collection, they begin experiencing mysterious occurrences and will now have to fight for their lives.

Making movies is not an easy game… Making a movie on little to no budget is even harder. In my time as a reviewer and podcaster I have spoken to countless industry folks about their upcoming project, only for it to never actually see the light of day. Which is why when I come across a super-low budget Brit indie film I get excited to see that another one got made. Which means I am always so willing to at least try the film in an effort to put some respect on it.
Sometimes my willingness to do this yields very positive results when I discover a real gem. Other times… Well I rarely review the ones at the opposite end but there are definitely a few duds. This...

"As long as you have him by your side, nothing can ever hurt you." "Not even the demons in the hallway?" Epic Pictures has released an official trailer for an indie horror comedy called Benny Loves You, marking the feature directorial debut of British filmmaker Karl Holt, who also co-stars in the film. This played at last year's FrightFest and Sitges Film Festival, and also stopped by the New York City Horror Film Festival a few years ago. We've seen evil animatronics, and evil dolls, now it's time for an evil plush toy. Jack is desperately trying for a new start in life, but when he throws away his childhood bear Benny, it's a move that can only end in death. Benny doesn't want to be thrown away! So tread carefully... The film stars Karl Holt, Claire Cartwright, George Collie, James Parsons, Lydia Hourihan, and David Wayman. This definitely does...

The thing I noticed most about The Heiress while watching it, is that it is very, very, British for a variety of reasons that I will go into later… The story followss two sisters who live together, Clare and Anna. Clare has seizures and soon starts to see ghosts or at least what she thinks are ghosts, while her sister just thinks she is going crazy. This being a horror movie, the ghosts are real.
So why is it a very British movie? It’s kinda hard to say if you’re not from Great Britain or have never visited here but the locations, the fashion, the dialogue and the characters and the actors they play are all just so…...

As supernatural horror film The Heiress goes on digital release this week, lead actress Jayne Wiseman talks about her love of singing, coping with lockdown and her new period drama, Glow & Darkness.
You star in a new British supernatural horror film, The Heiress. Tell us how you got the part and what is was about the script that appealed to you.
I worked with David Wayman a few years ago and he mentioned me to Chris when they were discussing the project. Chris reached out me and we had a great chat about the project. I was really excited about the concept. I love supernatural horror in general and this was something I’d not quite seen before.
What did you find most demanding about playing Anna?
I found the role came quite naturally to me. Weirdly I was even five weeks pregnant when we started filming! I have...

Child’s Play has a lot to answer for… actually scratch that. The killer doll cliche in horror films goes back a lot further than that , in fact it goes all the way back to the 1930s with The Devil-Doll. Since then there have been a myriad of killer doll (or killer toy to be more precise) films – culminating in the late 80s renaissance and films like Child’s Play, Dolls, Puppet Master, Dolly Dearest; hell, even the Silent Night, Deadly Night franchise switched to killer toys for its fifth instalment in 1991.. The idea of dolls and toys coming to life and attacking their owners is one that still instills fear in audiences. If the films are done right that is.
And Benny Loves You is done very, Very,...

One Man, One Mission, One Choice. If you haven't already seen this trailer, it might be worth checking out. Capsule is an indie film about Britain's first manned mission to space. It's not actually a true story (as they never sent anyone into space at that time), so this technically counts as "sci-fi", but considering it plays very much like a real thriller that's probably how it should be categorized. Edmund Kingsley plays Guy Taylor, the first British pilot ever sent up into space in 1959, but his capsule malfunctions and he starts to suffer from hypoxia (oxygen deprivation). The cast includes Lisa Greenwood, David Wayman, Nigel Barber and Michael Koltes. This looks like a nice contained thriller, there's just something off about it. See below. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Andrew Martin's Capsule, found direct on YouTube: The year is 1959. It is the height of the Cold War.
