Eight months after MSNBC named Brian Shactman new anchor of Way Too Early — its pre-dawn lead-in to Morning Joe — the cable news net has tapped Thomas Roberts to replace him starting Monday. Roberts said in the announcement the job is “right in line with my career goals and aspirations.” Shactman, meanwhile, said in this morning’s announcement he’d come to the conclusion that “I don’t want politics to be my only focus. … I want to continue to branch out, making sure my career is not solely defined by that.” Shactman got the show when Willie Geist was named co-anchor of Today‘s 9 Am hour. MSNBC president Phil Griffin said Roberts got the gig because his “unique personality and point of view are just the right mix to lead-in to Morning Joe.” When The Daily Caller reported the openly gay Roberts was replacing Shactman because the left-leaning channel wants...

The announcement came on Friday from MSNBC president Phil Griffin. In a statement, Roberts characterized the move as "a very exciting opportunity and right in line with my career goals and aspirations." "I also appreciate Phil's faith in me and

Perhaps a little frazzled during a whirlwind promotional tour, Russell Brand took his interview into his own hands on "Morning Joe" on Monday (June 17).
As co-host Mika Brzezinksi and panelists Katty Kay and Brian Shactman awkwardly spoke about the British comedian, he became visibly agitated.
Finally, the 38-year-old star blurted out, "Is this what you all do for a living? These people are, I'm sure, typically very, very good at their job. You're conveying news to the people of America? People of America, we're gonna to be Ok. Everything's alright. These are your trusted anchors."
Later, he pokes fun at the co-host as she held her water bottle, calling her a "shaft grasper" and saying, "You need to lose that ring, Mika, 'cause it don't mean nothing to ya." Check out the entire awkward segment in the video below.

MSNBC got more than it bargained for on Monday when Russell Brand hijacked a segment on Morning Joe, chastising his interviewers for being rude. After several minutes of giggles, quips at Brand's expense and, eventually, calling him by the wrong name, Brand appears to tire of the shenanigans and takes the interview into his own hands. Don't mess with Russell Brand. The 38-year-old funnyman appeared on Morning Joe Monday morning where he was invited to chat about his upcoming world comedy tour, Messiah Complex. The chat started off with talk ranging from the tour's inspirations, which include world figures such as Che Guevara and Mahatma Gandhi, as well as Brand's boots. Which, was all fine, until panelist Brian Shactman followed up a "serious" question by saying he couldn't understand Brand's accent when he heard him on the radio. This led into more talk with cohost Mika Brzezinski and fellow panelists Katty Kay on the topic while referring to him in third person. Safe to say Brand, who was sitting right there,...

Despite the gruff, inappropriate side of him that he frequently shows the public, Russell Brand is one of the most intelligent comedians around. He took to MSNBC's "Morning Joe" talk show to discuss his new comedy tour "Messiah Complex," but apparently those who were there to speak to him didn't get the memo that Brand is a celebrity to take seriously.
Co-host Mika Brzezinski got the interview off on the wrong foot by making a point of how she has no idea who Brand is. During the rest of the eight minute segment, she and panelists Katty Kay and Brian Shactman proceed to mock Brand's accent, talk about him like he wasn't in the room and call him names like "Willy." Finally Brand seemingly has enough, reprimands the trio for their manners and then showcases how he believes professional news anchors should act.

Russell Brand ruffled feathers on Monday's "Morning Joe" when he jokingly hit on co-host Mika Brzezinski and upended the usual proceedings on the morning show.
Brand dropped by to discuss his first comedy tour "Messiah Complex." It was not long before he noted Brzezinski's "low-cut dress" and compared her hair to Princess Diana's. "I'm only flesh and blood," Brand told Brzezinski, noting that she appeared "nervous." "I've got instincts," Brand said. He jokingly instructed her to take off her wedding ring, and called her a "shaft-grasper."
His antics left panelists Katy Kay and Brian Shactman looking slightly baffled. At one point, Brand shouted at the staffers behind the set to "work more quietly" and wondered aloud whether they could look at porn on their work computers.
After goofing off for several minutes, he asked the roundtable, "Is this what you all do for a living?" Brand proceeded to take over the discussion,...
