Russell T Davies has a plan for Doctor Who’s survival: New. Fans.
It’s the same plan he had in 2005 when the show was first revived, but this time, it comes with a much bigger piggy bank courtesy of Disney+, and an appendix titled something like ‘Marvel(lous) World Domination’. International streaming, spin-offs, famous guest stars who bring crossover fandoms with them… It’s all about welcoming new viewers to the massive world of Doctor Who and creating lifelong fans in the making. Again.
Things are off to a solid start after David Tennant’s return in the three anniversary specials and Ncuti Gatwa’s debut adventure in “The Church on Ruby Road”, but there’s more fanfare to come, says Davies. Speaking at a Cardiff press conference in November 2023, he described the international streaming launch so far as low-key. “Disney are going to launch it massively when Ncuti’s first season comes along.

Carol Burnett’s 90 Years of Laughter and Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie were the big winners on night 2 of the Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday, while Queer Eye — already sick with Emmys — took home yet another for Outstanding Structured Reality Show. So did RuPaul (for hosting Drag Race) and The Simpsons (Animated Series), naturally.
Burnett’s sentimental trip down memory lane won Variety Special (pre-recorded), while Still won for Outstanding Documentary and Director (Davis Guggenheim).
“This is very encouraging,” Burnett said from the stage, before telling everyone to drive home safely.
Barack Obama, who was sadly Ma from the awards show in downtown L.A.’s Peacock Theater, picked up a trophy for narrating Working: What We Do All Day, while Welcome to Wrexham racked up wins for Unstructured Reality Show, Editing and Cinematography.

Chris Evans has opened up about tying the knot with actress Alba Baptista last month and how married life has been since.
The actor confirmed the news for the first time publicly while on stage Saturday at New York Comic Con, saying, “I got married. It was really, really great.”
Evans added that the couple had two ceremonies: “We had one on the East Coast. We did one in Portugal. My wife’s Portuguese.”
He also went on to explain how stressful the planning process of weddings can be, saying, “For those of you who are married, it takes a lot out of you.”
But Evans noted that now that he and his wife are “through that, we’ve kinda just been enjoying life, gearing up for autumn. It’s the best time of year right now. Now we’re just relaxing and enjoying life and reflecting.”
