Back in September, Sam Drayson Le Tissier and I got to take a very special trip to Austria. We had been invited by the lovely people at Triumph to witness for ourselves a recreation of one of the greatest moments in movie history as Guy Martin attempts to jump not one but both fences made famous by the legendary Steve McQueen in The Great Escape.
The production team were very lucky to find the actual location where the jump took place as well as partnering with Motorcycle collection Dick Shepherd who found and restored the original Triumph motorbike that was used in the 1963 movie.
During our trip we were lucky enough to meet John Leyton who starred in The Great Escape as Willie ‘Tunnel King’. Now 84, he still remembers shooting the movie like it was yesterday. We had a wonderful sit down chat with him which you can see below.

The BBC has finally made an official announcement regarding the future of Top Gear, with DJ Chris Evans becoming the show's new lead host.
Following Jeremy Clarkson's departure, it also looks as if James May and Richard Hammond will not be returning, although this has yet to be officially confirmed.
Evans has said that a female co-host will "definitely" be joining him, but who is in line for one of the biggest TV shows in the world? Here's a list of potential options tipped by bookmakers and fans alike.
1. Jodie Kidd
One of the most popular choices at the bookies, Kidd is a good friend of Clarkson and the Top Gear team, and knows her stuff when it comes to motors.
Primarily known for her modelling work before a career in TV, she is a keen motor racer and has taken part in the Gumball 3000 several times. At one stage,...

Michael Hewitt and Dermot Lavery’s emotionally charged documentary Road, is one not too far removed from that of TT3D: Closer to the Edge, which hit our cinema screens back in just 2011. However to cover this territory again is by no means a bad thing, as it makes for such intrinsically absorbing cinema. These racers are courageously dancing with death and this is no fictional account, these are not written characters. It may seem like a movie, or a video game, but Road serves as a painful reminder that this is real life.
In this instance, we’re exploring motorcycle road racing through the Dunlop family, who have dominated the headlines in the sport for the past four decades. The story begins with Joey Dunlop, who rose to prominence in 1970s, going on to achieve much success across an illustrious career in the sport. His younger brother Robert was also unusually gifted,...

Two documentaries which we implore you to watch this year have to be Senna and TT3D: Closer to the Edge. Both movies do feature motor-sport as a core area of the movie but as you’ll see when you watch them, neither are really about the sport but the people who take part in them.
By vividly recounting the Tt’s legendary rivalries and the Isle of Man’s unique road racing history, this 3D feature documentary will discover why modern Tt riders still risk their lives to win the world’s most dangerous race. The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy is the greatest motorcycle road race in the world, the ultimate challenge for rider and machine. It has always called for a commitment far beyond any other racing event, and many have made the ultimate sacrifice in their quest for victory. A story about freedom of choice, the...

Commercials director Richard de Aragues has made a substantial cinematic mark with the thrilling documentary TT3D: Closer to the Edge (in cinemas now).
We talked to the filmmaker recently (alongside Ian Hutchinson, who managed the previously unprecedented feat of winning the five solo races in last year’s Tt) about the use of 3D to tell the story, and how the racers felt seeing their lives up close and personal.
If you missed our interview with Guy Martin yesterday, you can also check that out here.
Synopsis: TT3D: Closer to the Edge is a film about the Tt, the world-famous motorcycle race that takes place on the Isle of Man every year. Racing along public roads on bikes just inches apart – with speeds hitting 200mph – drama, tension and tragedy all combine to thrill the audience and tell a very moving human story.

The world of The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy and the racers who risk everything to in their attempts to win, is vividly brought to life (via 3D) in cinemas this weekend with TT3D: Closer to the Edge.
We had the opportunity to sit down and chat with one of the most popular and colourful characters from the race world (and the main focal point in the documentary), Guy Martin. Martin is known for being somewhat of a maverick on the track in his refusal to play by the rules, and the loose and relaxed interview (below) demonstrates his endearingly down-to-earth attitude.

If you’ve ever wondered what the appeal of riding is, no matter how we bikers try in vain to convert you to two wheels from four, Richard De Aragues’s new documentary film is an excellent place to start. Ok, it’s the extreme version of riding, but it absolutely hammers the message across in the bluntest and rawest of terms.
TT3D: Closer To The Edge is an exhilarating and heart-stopping adrenaline rush full of big ballsy biking, which like the race magic the petrol-head ‘gladiators’ cherish, draws you in and injects you with the Tt lunacy drug. And from some of the people present at our screening, attended by two of the riders in the film, Ian ‘Hutchy’ Hutchinson and John ‘Sheep Skin’ McGuinness, you don’t have to ride to begin to understand the passion of dicing with death – and the biking bug. With the utterly entertaining Elvis-and-Wolverine cross,...

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Pixelschatten Trailer This one is a visual and aural delight. Anil Jacob Kunnel isn't a name anyone ought to know offhand but this from-out-of-nowhere filmmaker...

If you're a petrolhead, there's a few documentaries to lock into your diary for the weeks ahead. Alongside Asif Kapadia's acclaimed bio-doc Senna comes TT3D: Closer To The Edge, an equally high-revving look at the Isle of Man's week-long motorbiking bonanza that's part racing doc, part character study. The Isle of Man Tt brings the cream of world motorbiking talent to the island for a week of bat-out-of-hell racing through its lanes and byeways every year. TT3D, as you can see from the trailer below, captures all this in a blur of thrills and spills, as screaming tyres and screeching breaks punctuate the island's usually serene villages. Think Days Of Thunder across the set of Postman Pat. The Cole Trickle of the show is Guy Martin, a motor-mouthed maverick and showman who frustrates his sponsors, annoys the powers-that-be and generally scares the hell out of the wildlife, all...
