‘American Idol Live!’ 2012 touched down in Newark, N.J. on Tuesday night, and while the pacing of the show suffered more stops and starts than an octogenarian trying out a stick-shift for the first time, the Season 11 Top 10 nevertheless proved they have plenty of gas in their tanks as the tour enters its final two weeks.
Paired with the right material, a number of the finalists confirmed they can indeed command a stadium-sized crowd: Country gal Skylar Laine dropped charisma-bombs all the way to the cheap seats. Erika Van Pelt put on a display of vocal firepower that left me...

For American Idol (TV) fans, nothing beats a concert packed with live music, psychedelic lights, and their very own Top Ten belting out the season's most popular Idol performances. This time, however, there's no judges, no tireless, never-ending commercials (except for the occasional, strategically placed plugs for Idol sponsored products), and no abbreviated songs. This year's Top Ten made Chicago their second stop in the 2012 American Idols Live! tour following an opening night in Detroit, Mi. Fresh out of rehearsals in Los Angeles, the tour is young, and the fatigue of a rigorous travel schedule and an inevitable bout or two of homesickness has not set in with it's cast. Full of excitement and anticipation, they are steadily making their way across America to meet their fans and spread some Idol love. On this occasion, three of the Idols - Colton Dixon, Joshua Ledet and Skylar Laine sat down with...

If you’re going to describe Jessica Sanchez’s American Idol journey as a rollercoaster ride, make sure there’s a “you must be this tall” sign at the entrance.
There was her introduction to the Idoloonie Nation with a legendary group performance in Las Vegas and that buzzworthy Whitney Houston cover in Top 13 Week. There was her shock elimination at No. 7 (with subsequent need for the Judges’ Save) and not one, but two stunning renditions of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.”

If you think Nigel Lythgoe has an easy job, consider this: Despite producing the No. 2 show of the 2011-2012 TV season in terms of total viewers and the coveted 18-49 demo, American Idol‘s executive producer is still in the unenviable position of defending the show’s ratings and creative direction in the face of public criticism from his own boss.

The moment we have all been waiting for has arrived. After over 132 million votes, 21 year old Phil Phillips from Leesburg, Ga has been crowned the winner of American Idol Season 11. What a glorious moment this was. The finale was jam packed with surprise performances, a two hour celebration concert leading up to the big moment, the win that many may have wanted but not anticipated actually happening. That’s what makes this win so fantastic! The underdog took it home! The one contestant who made no apologies or excuses for being true to himself all season long took the win. Congratulations Phil Phillips! A win well deserved!

Last night, America crowned Phillip Phillips, the 21-year-old pawn shop worker from Georgia, as the latest "American Idol."
This should've come as a surprise to exactly no one, given that Phillip is now the fifth in an uninterrupted line of "White Guys With Guitars" who have snagged the coveted crown over the past few seasons. I was noting the bias towards "Wgwg" way back in my recap of the Top 24 -- although in those halcyon days, I was foolishly giving the edge to Colton, just because he was more conventionally attractive (and more annoying), even going so far as to note: "He's white, male and can play an instrument, so he'll probably win." Close enough, right?
Clearly, I was discounting the sympathy votes Phil-Phil would earn for his kidney problems, but I did note that he had one of the stand-out performances in the first live round. I've enjoyed a...

America has voted, and Phillip Phillips is the new "American Idol!"The 21-year-old pawn shop worker from Georgia bested 16-year-old singing sensation Jessica Sanchez of California to claim the title. A record 132 million votes were cast in the finale.Phillip is the show's eleventh winner and the fifth male contestant in a row to win. His winning single, "Home," will be released this week.Phillip was consistently praised for his originality and never found himself in the bottom group. Jessica was actually the lowest vote getter among the Top 7, but got a reprieve from judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.Had she won, Jessica would have been the first saved contestant to win "American Idol" and also the youngest (Jordin Sparks, "Idol's" last female winner, was 17 when she won Season 6).The two finalists will join Joshua Ledet, Hollie Cavanagh, Skylar Laine, Elise Testone, Colton Dixon, DeAndre Brackensick,...

American Idol Season 11 Winner: Announced!
The 10 castoffs open the night with "Runaway Baby" by Bruno Mars. Man, there was a whole lot of talent in this season's contestants. This is easily one of the best group numbers I've ever seen on this show and I'm almost never a fan of the group sings. I even feel like there's more choreography than we've seen in years. Dare I say it, I think this tour will be a fun one.
In Phillip Phillips' first performance of the night, he's teaming up with John Fogerty from Ccr for "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" and "Bad Moon Rising." The performances aren't spectacular,...

American Idol Finale Part 2: A Winner is Crowned
I rewatched last night's episode of American Idol, and I have to say, Phillip did better than I gave him credit for. I can say all I want that I think Jessica deserves to win, but I won't be mad if Phillip does. I'll comment more on the whole 'white guy with guitar' phenomenon later in this post, and how the show can fix itself. On to the show!
The night starts out with a group song to Bruno Mars' "Runaway Baby" (I believe that is the title, I am typing this as I watch), and it's the typical all-in-white mess we've come to expect from finale night. There's a weird, unnecessary dance break, and then it's time for the show to really start. Ryan and the judges come out, Ryan building up the show with 132 million votes cast. When Phillip and Jessica come out,...

Unlike the actual "American Idol" results show, we don't intend to keep you in suspense about the winner with two hours of filler. After 132 million votes cast last night (really, people?), the 11th winner of the juggernaut reality competition is ...
Phillip Phillips.
The White Guy With Guitar strikes again! Looks like that stereotypical streak on "American Idol" isn't being broken any time soon. Whatever else you might say about P-squared (and I fully expect you to in the comments section), the ladies seem to love him. He's got a radio-ready sound -- especially with his Mumford & Sons-esque winner's song, "Home" -- and he probably has the greatest chance of making an impact on the charts, as so many previous "American Idol" winners have failed to do.
Did he have the best vocals, an impressive range or the ability to work the stage? No. But that doesn't preclude him from being a successful artist,...

If the Phillip Phillips-vs.-Jessica Sanchez showdown of American Idol‘s eleventh season was an apples-vs-oranges kind of affair, then tonight’s season finale — featuring the inarguably terrific Top 13 12* — was a weird and occasionally wonderful smorgasbord. Miley Cyrus won't be performing on American Idol's finale Wednesday, but it doesn't look like the 19-year-old is too bummed out about it. Earlier this week, the former Disney star was all smiles in L.A., running barefoot through a parking lot wearing skinny jeans and a revealing top. She showed off her slim figure in the low-cut shirt (which she wore without a bra!) and grabbed at the sides of her top to prevent a wardrobe malfunction. Sources tell E! What did you think of tonight's elimination? Are you happy with who is going to the finals? After one of the most talent-filled season in American Idol history, the final two contestants were named in a dramatic results show May 17. Only a week after his friend Hollie Cavanagh was eliminated from American Idol, Joshua Ledet had another tearful night on the show Thursday - but this time it was because he was the one sent home. Ledet said afterwards that he hadn't planned on crying but became overwhelmed when judge Jennifer Lopez and others came up to hug him after the results were announced. "I felt good about the whole situation, but when people come up to you and try to comfort you and hug you, then the tears start coming, and then a whole bunch of other stuff," said Ledet,...

Well, well: We have three finalists of varied musical taste, technique, and style. No matter who dropped out during Thursday's telecast, we'd be better off than last season when the righteous, riled-up Haley Reinhart tried everything to crack the top 2, failed, and left us with the most uninteresting final duo in the show's history. Though I'm slightly peeved that Phillip Phillips has survived this long, he is plenty more interesting and cool than Lauren Alaina, who is still a miniature Sally Struthers figurine with no verve, and Scotty McCreery, who is still the creepiest.

Jessica Sanchez reveals why she's nervous about the outcome of eliminations May 17 and what she'd change about the 'American Idol' process! American Idol has been quite the vehicle for Jessica Sanchez to get her name out to the masses -- but even though she's been really successful on the show, she still would change the way producers pick the songs she's supposed to sing. "It was kind of frustrating, because you are trying to win a competition and people are like 'here try this song,'" the 16-year-old San Diego native explained to reporters after the performances May 16. She added, "We had to sing Billy Joel one week and I was like, 'Who is that?' But he's an amazing artist and we seemed to pull that off so I was trying to put my self in that element again." After his performances May 16, Joshua Ledet revealed what would happen if he doesn't make it to the 'American Idol' finale. Do You think he'll be eliminated? Joshua Ledet has made it all the way to the final three on American Idol, but the 20-year-old Louisiana native is prepped to say his good byes during the elimination this evening. "If I were to go home tomorrow, best of luck to Jessica and Phillip," he told reporters after his performance last night. Despite being called "the best singer in the last 50 years" by judge Jennifer Lopez, Josh's final song, "Imagine," was sub par -- especially compared to Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips. Do you think Josh is in danger of being eliminated tonight, or will it be one of the others? Sound off below! More Idol: Recap: It’s Hollie Cavanagh’s Time To Go Skylar Laine: Why...

We’ve reached that point in the American Idol season — after 37 episodes, hundreds of magnificently awful images in the backdrop oval, and what feels like 73 hours of nonsense critiques from Tweedle-Huh, Tweedle-Abs, and Tweedle-Yo — where I start hunting for conspriracy theories with the vigorousness of Skylar Laine tracking an eight-point buck in the woods. (Run, Bambi, run!) And this week’s Top 3 performance episode had ‘em in spades:
* There was Ryan Seacrest’s intro, touting Phillip Phillips and his hometown of Leesburg, Ga, which might’ve been a not-so-subtle reminder of the last growly-voiced, guitar-playing, untucked-shirt-wearing Idol winner Lee DeWyze,...

The "American Idol" finale is set, and Joshua Ledet didn't get an invite.
Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez will compete in next week's season finale after Ledet was voted off the show Thursday (May 17). Ledet, the 20-year-old from Westlake, Louisiana, who was continually praised as one of the best contestants to ever grace the "Idol" stage, received the lowest number of votes from the 90 million votes cast, according to "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest.
Ledet set a record for standing ovations from the judges this season on "Idol"; barely a week went by when he didn't get the judges on their feet after one of his stellar performances. Ledet performed James Brown's "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" at the close of the show Thursday, repeating a...

Now things are about to get interesting. Last week, we dispatched Hollie Cavanagh, which was sad for Joshua Ledet, but pretty straight-forward for America. Leaving aside the only briefly relevant question of whether or not Colton Dixon would be able to ride in-song prayer to an "Idol" crown, we've worked our way down to what probably should have been the Top 3 from the very beginning of the season. Joshua, Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips belong here. But who deserves to be singing next Tuesday and Wednesday? That's more of a mystery. For me at least, Joshua is a no-brainer as...

Fox will not comment, but according to E!, American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez will call it quits after her second season reigning over the tiny teens. She’s had one-year contracts for seasons 10 and 11. Ms. Lo is just too busy! She’s launching a mega tour with Enrique Iglesias this summer in Latin America and the U.S. with plans to go worldwide in the fall, so she’ll be overseas when Idol auditions kick in for season 12.
Plus, she probably wants to spend some time being a mom — being on American Idol has made her so disoriented about her...

American Idol (TV) said goodbye to 18 year-old Hollie Cavanagh last week, leaving only three finalists in the competition. Jessica Sanchez, Phillip Phillips and Joshua Ledet will now sing it out to the end for the coveted title while Hollie cheers on her friends and gears up for Idol's summer tour. This Liverpool England native who migrated to McKinney, Texas in 2002 finished in fourth place and was known as the little girl with the big voice. She took on some mammoth songs like Christina Aguilera's "Reflection," Billy Joel's "Honesty," Adele's "Rolling in the Deep," and Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love." She received praise from former Idol winner Carrie Underwood and last season's runner up Lauren Alaina throughout the season, but didn't always receive the support many thought she deserved from the judges. Hollie sat down to talk about the journey that brought her to fourth place, and...

Jennifer Lopez put on a sexy show with boyfriend Casper Smart last night in Hollywood. The duo performed her track "Dance Again" during the latest episode of American Idol. Following her dance duet with Casper, J Lo and her fellow judges, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson, said farewell to American Idol hopeful Hollie Cavanagh. It was an emotional evening for the entire cast and crew, though Jennifer had the support of twins Max and Emme in the audience. The 3-year-olds showered Jennifer with hugs and snapped a photo with her at the judges' table. The fun didn't stop there for Jennifer, since she made a quick change into nude shorts and Christian Louboutins for another event at the Bel-Air hotel. She was honored by Coty for her 10-year partnership with the brand. Jennifer's Glow kick-started the celebrity fragrance industry and has sold more than $2 billion since it was first released over a decade ago.

Hollie may be out of the running to become the next 'Idol,' but she tells HollywoodLife.com she left the show inspired, not defeated. Read on to find out why! Hollie Cavanagh sadly didn't make the Top 3 on American Idol on May 10. The 18-year-old isn't letting the elimination get her down, though! She told HollywoodLife.com all about how judge Jennifer Lopez's sexy performance on the show gave her motivation. "I honestly thought it was amazing, I think of it as a inspiration because she dominates the stage," Hollie says about J.Lo's steamy Idol number with her backup dancer beau, Casper Smart. Hollie Cavanagh may have been sent home from American Idol on Thursday night, but she seems to be handling her elimination better than her friend and fellow competitor Joshua Ledet, who cried as Cavanagh performed Miley Cyrus's "The Climb" after the results were announced. "I saw him crying, and he was like, 'I love you. I love you,' " Cavanagh tells People. "I was like, I know. I don't know why that boy is crying. I'm gonna see him in a few days. Stop crying!" As for herself, "I'm doing fine," she says. "You can't really complain when you're [in the] top four.

Hollie Cavanagh, the British-born 18-year-old singer from Texas, had an inkling her American Idol journey would be ending Thursday night. “I kind of woke up today with a gut feeling,” Cavanagh told EW backstage about an hour after being eliminated. “I was staying positive throughout the day and still staying hopeful, of course, but when my name wasn’t called, I wasn’t like, ‘Oh, really?’”
It was her undistinguished performance of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” on Wednesday that drew criticism from the judges and baseball cap collector Jimmy Iovine, and may have been Cavanagh’s undoing.

With nearly 70 million votes cast this week, one young hopeful met the end of their Idol journey last night as the final four became the final three. Before the results were read, sticking with the theme of the week, the final four opened the show with a performance of “California Dreamin’.” While the vocals were good, the choreography was cheesy and the finalists made no point in pretending that it was anything but. Their movements were stiff and their exhaustion was read all over their face. Hang on final three, the competition is almost over!
Prior to the results being read, this week’s Ford music video, set to Jennifer Lopez’s “Feeling So Good” had a behind the scenes feature with director, Ethan Lader and the finalists on location in Downton La. The behind the scenes footage was longer than the music video itself. It’s a shame because...

After weeks of finding herself in the bottom three, the inevitable happened Thursday night: Hollie Cavanagh was voted off "American Idol" after failing to make America love her.
Cavanagh's voice always had incredible range but it was her lack of emotional connection to songs that was the judges' main concern. While the 18-year-old finally seemed to be coming out of her shell, she backtracked Wednesday night when covering Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me." But Hollie insists her nerves never got in the way.
"I didn't really feel nervous singing that song," Cavanagh told MTV News after the show. "I really did love that song, and I definitely felt it, but I've said this every time.
