Parents just don’t understand, and they haven’t been alone in trying to make sense of Will Smith’s angry assault on Chris Rock a year and a half ago at the Oscars. Perhaps to remind the world that he was once wholesome and didn’t have to cuss in his raps to sell records, he’s reuniting with his old compatriot DJ Jazzy Jeff for a surely noncontroversial performance at A Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop.

“Nope,” the highly anticipated third feature film from writer-director Jordan Peele, is coming this summer but, true to form, has been shrouded in mystery. That shroud is starting to get pulled back a bit, beginning with a new trailer debuting on Super Bowl Sunday, and a sneak peek just released teasing that debut.
The video (which you can watch above), titled “From Jordan Peele,” gives equal time to both his Oscar-winning “Get Out” and its successful follow-up “Us,” including the spooky “Us”-ified version of Luniz’s 1995 jam “I Got 5 On It.” Of course, at the very end of the spot we get a look at “Nope,” namely cast members Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun (who somehow looks even more dashing in a cowboy hat), all looking ominously to the sky. (The poster featured a sinister-looking cloud.)

“Dancing with the Stars” will miss Halloween by just one day (wait ’til next year though), so it has to spook it up six days early on Monday’s Horror Night.
The remaining 10 couples will perform routines inspired by scary movies… and also “The Vampire Diaries”? One of these is not like the others. But, yes, Suni Lee and Sasha Farber will do a tango for the Salvatore bros and Elena Gilbert, we guess. JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson have “It,” so expect them to clown around. Meanwhile, Melora Hardin and Artem Chigvintsev‘s “Cujo”-inspired jive will be to “Elvis Presley‘s “Hound Dog.” Incredible pairing. If no one’s dressed up as a dog, we riot.

Less than 24 hours ago, I was beginning to think that the most unsettling thing I'd end up witnessing this week was the official Cats trailer, which debuted late Thursday afternoon. But of course, I was wrong. Not long after the trailer was released - and subsequently met with some, uh, strong reactions from people online - Twitter user Ian Abramson managed to make the two-minute clip even more of a wild ride by swapping out the background music with that terrifying remix of Luniz's "I Got 5 on It." You know, the song that basically turned the Us trailer into nightmare fuel?
"I put the song from Us onto the Cats trailer and I think it fits better," Abramson captioned the video. I mean . . . he's not wrong.

Film journalists have already reacted in horror to the first trailer for Universal’s “Cats” musical adaptation, but that’s nothing compared to the overwhelming response from social media users. Less than 24 hours after the trailer’s debut, a viral meme mixing the “Cats” footage with popular music scores has taken over Twitter with terrifying results. One video that sets the “Cats” trailer to the “Us” remix of Luniz’s “I Got 5 On It” has exploded with over 1.8 million views, and best of all, it got director Jordan Peele’s seal of approval.
Other viral “Cats” trailer remixes set the footage to Mica Levi’s hypnotic “Under the Skin” score, Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow’s “Annihilation” score, and the music featured in Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut.” And of course the “Cats” trailer got mashed up with the “Just want to take another look at you” moment from...

Zoë Alyce Salnave was a year old in 1994 when her mother started renting out the garage of their quiet pink house to a young music producer named Anthony “Tonecapone” Gilmour. Acoustic foam nailed to the garage walls kept the house from vibrating as he perfected his songs — including a future classic called “I Got 5 On It.”
The song, which Gilmour produced for the hip-hop duo Luniz, became one of the biggest hits of 1995. It’s hot again now thanks to its creepy role in Jordan Peele’s “Us.” On the surface, it’s just about kicking in to buy weed. But the song also has moody, mysterious undertones that serve “Us” well.
Peele’s film arrived just in time for Salnave, who is graduating from USC’s film school next month and says she has wanted for years to tell the story of how “I Got 5 on It” changed the...

So much of Jordan Peele's second feature film, Us, is genuinely horrifying. The trailers are just creepy enough to intrigue us, and the haunting remix of "I Got 5 on It" by Luniz dictates its whole chilling vibe. Plus, the very premise of the film is terrifying - fans were so desperate to make sense of it all that they thought up their own wild theories practically seconds after the trailer debuted. But no theory could come close to the actual ending of the film, which we're here to discuss, below.
Warning: major spoilers for Us ahead!
Who Are the "Tethered"?
In the beginning of Us, we meet the Wilson family: Adelaide and Gabe (Lupita Nyong'o and Black Panther's Winston Duke) and their kids, Zora and Jason (Shahadi Wright Joseph and Evan Alex). The four travel to Adelaide's childhood vacation home in Santa Cruz, CA, for an idyllic Summer getaway,...

If there's one thing you should know about Jordan Peele's Us - other than that it'll give you nightmares for weeks - it's that the horror flick gives its audiences plenty of ideas to process by the time the credits start to roll. In addition to making you immediately cancel any and all vacations to California in the near future, it presents some intriguing ideas about America, the notion of "other," and the people we see when we look in the mirror. In short: it's a lot to take in.
Given the sheer volume of plot Peele squeezes into the film, you might be wondering if he also sneaks in a postcredits scene for one more spooky jolt. The answer is . . . nope! There's no need to stick around once the final terrifying scene wraps up if you're hoping for a zinger. Sadly, we'll have to wait for a third...

In most movies, a fight with red-robed doppelgängers to the tune of N.W.A.’s “F— the Police” would be the showstopper. But Jordan Peele’s “Us” has an even better musical trick up its sleeve — its deft dissection of the 1995 Luniz hit “I Got 5 on It.”
“I Got 5 on It” comes from an underrated school of hip-hop that discusses low-stakes and even trivial problems with high-level musicality. The “5” refers to a five-dollar bill kicked in toward the purchase of marijuana. The song basically says, if you want to smoke some of my weed, please kick in some cash. It’s a gripe everyone’s had at some point about weed, gas, or french fries.
But the song remains such an earworm 24 years after its debut because nothing about its music sounds trivial. The music has overtones of hurt and betrayal, and may owe those qualities to its surprising and contentious origin story.

Bay area hip-hop duo The Luniz can thank Jordan Peele’s “Us” for the 2019 reintroduction of their 1995 chart-topper “I Got 5 on It.” It’s become an instant horror anthem, earning new fans and serving as a nostalgia trip for older hip-hop heads. But the song (and the group) missed much earlier opportunities at a revival, as well as the licensing fees. Blake Leyh, music supervisor and composer for HBO’s “The Wire,” sought the track all the way back in 2002. But at the time, obtaining clearance was impossible because the writers and publishers couldn’t agree on how to distribute ownership.
“I don’t exactly recall my introduction to it, but I always just sort of knew of the song, because it was an international hit,” said Leyh. He tried to clear the track for episodes in seasons one, two and four of “The Wire,” to use as part of the landscape and ambient sound.

If you’ve seen Us, you’ve had Luniz’s “I’ve Got 5 on It” stuck in your head ever since. Though it’s initially framed in a lighthearted context, the song becomes a crucial component in the movie’s escalating dread. Using an upbeat song to craft a creepy mood in a horror movie is not a new technique—but it rarely fails…...

"Once upon a time there was a girl, and she had a shadow."It’s 1987: a child version of Lupita Nyong’o’s Adelaide (played by Madison Currie) watches a commercial for then-President Ronald Reagan’s racial tension appeasement stunt known as the “Hands Across America” initiative. Like the beginning of Gaspar Noé’s Climax, the TV set is flanked by rows of VHS tapes that make transparent the film’s influences: A Nightmare on Elm Street, C.H.U.D, The Goonies. Adelaide here sees her reflection upon the saturated blue skies of the broadcast, then again in more disturbing circumstances towards the end of this prologue, in the fun-house mirrors of a beachside carnival. In both cases, there is something discomfiting about the act of self-confrontation.So begins Jordan Peele’s intrepid new horror picture, Us. Though bedazzled with nods to the great American suspense films, Peele...

Most “Us” fans can’t stop talking about or listening to the cover of Luniz’s “I Got 5 on It,” which was featured in the movie’s official trailer and plays an integral role during the film’s climax, but that’s not the only song writer-director Jordan Peele ingeniously features in his latest horror movie. The Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations” is played during the murders of Kitty (Elisabeth Moss) and Josh (Tim Heidecker), and Universal Pictures film music president Mike Knobloch confirmed to Variety that’s the only song Peele ever considered for the moment.
“Jordan is very smart and savvy about music and knows exactly what he wants,” Knobloch said. “From very early on when he wrote the script and going back to the earliest days of the production, I cannot remember a time when ‘Good Vibrations’ was not the song that was going to go in that sequence.

In Us, Jordan Peele shuns ominous chords for a breezy ditty – and follows in the bloody footsteps of film-making greats
Ever since the first trailer for Jordan Peele’s Us was released, it was clear that music would be an essential part of the film. Who knew Luniz’s I Got Five on It could elicit such unsettling emotions? Peele did, and he managed to transform this chilled-out party tune into a sinister symphonic trigger-warning telling us bad things are about to go down.
Then there’s the Beach Boys’ Good Vibrations, which is played during a particularly violent scene. The thrumming melody that would normally fill you with joy and calm suddenly becomes a claustrophobic din as you watch people brutally murdered in their own home. The lyrics – “I’m pickin’ up good vibrations” – are jarringly at odds with the images on screen; nothing is good about this situation...

It’s scary as hell, and that’s just for starters. But Us, the new mesmerizing mindbender from writer-director-producer Jordan Peele, also carries the weight of expectation. Get Out, Peele’s smashing debut from 2017, was a brilliantly caustic satire of race division in America that won Peele an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay (he’s the first African-American to triumph in that category) and became a phenom with critics and audiences. How can Peele top that? Short answer: he can’t and doesn’t. In interviews, Peele insists that Us is a straight-up horror show.

In Jordan Peele‘s “Us,” Zora Wilson (Shahadi Wright Joesph) asks her family, “Are we just going to ignore the world’s problems?” after reading a conspiracy theory-like headline about fluoride in the water. After a pause, the radio changes to “I Got 5 On It” by Luniz, prompting the Wilson family to pivot on the topic and sing along and discuss the song’s meaning, because let’s face it, it’s inarguably more “fun” to deconstruct a beloved ’90s hip-hop hit than to bring down the mood with talk about politics, racism, fake news or environmentalism.

Examining the nature of humanity can be a dark and depressing venture, now more than ever. A world that feels divided, one which you fear, becomes your greatest enemy. These are the building blocks for “Us,” writer-director-producer Jordan Peele’s highly anticipated, thrilling and satisfactory follow up to his Oscar-winning 2017 debut “Get Out.” It’s also where he cements his place as one of the best horror creators of our time, knowing that life’s true horror stems from what humans are capable of doing to each other.

Ever since the Academy Award-winner announced the film last May, with its now-recognizable Rorschach test-esque logo, Peele’s Monkeypaw and Universal Pictures have been keeping all the details about the movie under a very tight lid. As the months went by, Peele left us a trail of bread crumbs that led to the first trailer on Christmas Day, a clip that had everyone’s eyes wide open and freaked the eff out.

Expectations are high for Us, but so far, the footage we’ve seen from Jordan Peele’s follow-up to Get Out offers little reason to believe that the director won’t have another commercial and critical smash on his hands.
Just take this new teaser for example, which includes a lot of familiar footage, as well as the same creepy variation on the song “I Got 5 on It” by Luniz that featured in the first trailer, but also offers a fair bit of fresh material that’s just as unnerving as the parts we’ve seen before. Perhaps the most memorable moment, however, comes courtesy of Lupita Nyong’o, when the Black Panther star utters just one word in the role of one of the film’s violent doppelgängers.

Regardless of who wins the Super Bowl, Jordan Peele fans scored big as the second trailer for the director’s upcoming horror flick, “Us,” has just been released.
“You know how sometimes things line up?” Lupita Nyong’o’s character asks in the spot. “Coincidences? Since we’ve been up here, they’ve been happening more and more. It’s like there’s this black cloud hanging over us.”
“Us” centers on Adelaide and Gabe Wilson (Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke) as they take their kids to Adelaide’s childhood home in Northern California for the summer. They unwind with their friends (Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker), but Adelaide, still haunted by a past trauma, becomes paranoid that something is about to hurt her family.

From bunny rabbits to murderous doppelgängers, the first trailer for Jordan Peele’s Us gives viewers a lot to process, right down to its noteworthy soundtrack choice.
“I Got 5 on It” by Luniz is first heard playing as the Wilson family drives to Adelaide’s childhood beachside home, serving as the basis for a sweet little exchange between generations. But once events take a turn for the sinister, the song itself follows suit, slowing down and transitioning into an ominous new variation. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Peele explained the track’s inclusion, drawing a comparison to another horror movie composition that makes a surprising amount of sense when you think about it.
“That song, it came pretty simple, I’m making a movie in Northern California, that’s a bay area hip-hop classic and I wanted to explore this very relatable journey of being a parent [and] maybe some...

Universal has dropped a Christmas Day present with the first look at Jordan Peele’s anticipated Us, the follow-up to his Oscar-nominated hit Get Out.
It opens with the Wilson family, Adelaide (Lupita Nyong’o) Gabe (Winston Duke) and their children, traveling up the Northern California coast to Adelaide’s childhood beachside home, to the strains of Luniz’s “I Got 5 On It.” We next see the family on the beach, chatting it up with the Tylers (Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker) when Adelaide notices her young son has wandered off. She finds him staring at a statue-like man standing alone on the beach. (Hint that terrifying things are about to happen).
Cut to later that night when Gabe finds four people holding hands and dressed in red, staring at the house and standing silently at the bottom of their driveway. Gabe approaches with a baseball bat and a warning,...

Jordan Peele blew your mind with the Sunken Place. Now the Get Out director wants to give you a full-blown heart attack. The blood-soaked trailer for his new film, Us, reveals the director is planting his flag firmly on planet horror.
The clip begins with a happy family of four — Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke play the parents, Shahadi Wright Joseph and Evan Alex are their young daughter and son — piling into their car on a bright summer day and rolling down the highway as they sing along to...

There's something about the holidays that brings out the worst in all of us. At least, that's how Jordan Peele must feel since he dropped the first trailer for his horror film Us, on Christmas Day! From the stellar cast, including Black Panther's Winston Duke and Lupita Nyong'o, to what already promises to be an amazing soundtrack (Luniz's "I Got 5 on It" is a classic!), there's so much to look forward to. The trailer is also terrifying enough to put hairs on your chest, so there's that as well.
During the trailer's screening, Peele stated that - unlike his award-winning film debut Get Out - the story of Us has nothing to do with race. The film is focused on telling the story about how "we are our own worst enemies." He also explained that he specifically wanted to have a black family at the center of a horror film.
