The saga of America's Next Great Restaurant's not-so-great end continues as Chipotle is getting the blame for killing Soul Daddy, which closed its third and final restaurant in June. Earlier this month, TMZ claimed that winner Jamawn Woods said Chipotle was to blame, although he wasn't actually quoted in their post, which did more to prove that no one at TMZ knows how to use ellipses or em dashes. But host and judge Bobby Flay...

NBC's recent reality series, America's Next Great Restaurant, wasn't a success in the ratings and was cancelled after one season. Fortunately, the TV series lasted long enough to to see a winner crowned on May 1st.
Jamawn Woods, the owner of a small Detroit catering business, won with his concept for a healthy soul food restaurant called Soul Daddy. As the prize from the show, Woods' eatery opened for business in three locations -- Manhattan, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis (in the Mall of America). Some of the investment money for the restaurants supposedly came from the show's judges -- Chipotle founder Steve Ells, and chefs Lorena Garcia, Curtis Stone, and Bobby Flay.
Now, it looks like two of the locations haven't lasted any longer than the seven episode series. Both the New York and Los Angeles branches of Soul Daddy have already closed, after...

Two of America's Next Great Restaurant winner Jamawn Woods' three Soul Daddy restaurants have closed, leaving just one location open. Both the New York City and Los Angeles locations closed forever yesterday, after opening May 1 following the lackluster and low-rated finale of the NBC reality competition. We were big fans of the recent reality TV show America's Next Great Restaurant and were sad to see it end this past Sunday. But the best thing about the series is, it's the gift that keeps on giving. Because at the end of the road the winner received a restaurant chain with three locations, New York, Minneapolis and right here in Los Angeles. And so even before we knew who took top prize, we planned a pilgrimage to the eatery's opening day festivities on Monday morning.
It turns out our top choice was also the favorite of the judges — Bobby Flay, Curtis Stone, Lorena Garcia and Steve Ells. Soul Daddy was triumphant over Spice Coast and the Brooklyn Meatball Company. Creator Jamawn Woods started out his career running a chicken and waffles catering company out of his apartment and now he's a restaurateur. We...

"America's Next Great Restaurant" has crowned its first ever winner, Jamawn Woods. The reality show by NBC which is a cross between "The Apprentice" and "Top Chef" named Woods' restaurant Soul Daddy as the winner of first season on Sunday, May 1 finale.
Soul Daddy beat Brooklyn Meatball Company and Spice Coast in the final challenge which was made ala "Hell's Kitchen". The finalists were tested with actual diners giving reviews on their meals. Before the soft opening, the restaurateurs were to meet architects to discuss the dining area and design the company's logos.
The judges, including Bobby Flay, Curtis Stone, Steve Ells, and Lorena Garcia, agreed that Soul Daddy's concept of healthy soul food was a success. They thought Spice Coast's concept was too similar to Chipotle Mexican Grill, and Brooklyn Meatball Company made them wait too long for their food, causing a backup.
"This is definitely the biggest moment of my life.

It was between the Brooklyn Meatball Company, Soul Daddy and Spice Coast for the title of "America's Next Great Restaurant" on Sunday, May 1. So who went home with the title and the chance to run a three-location chain of restaurants?
That would be Jamawn Woods and his concept Soul Daddy, which specializes in healthy soul food. The investing team -- which is made up of Bobby Flay, Curtis Stone, Steve Ells and Lorena Garcia -- chose Soul Daddy as Spice Coast was pretty similar to Chipotle (Ells' company) and Brooklyn Meatball Company's service was backed up over an hour during the final challenge.
The final challenge kind of resembled "Top Chef's" restaurant wars with each contestant developing a soft open for their concept restaurant. The contestants met with arthitects to design the eating space and graphic designers for their logos. Several hundred customers tried out the food.
