- Hoyle ran a funky little folk music club in Philadelphia in 1970 and 1971. It had the unlikely name of World Control Studios. David Bromberg recorded his first Columbia Records album there. Bonnie Raitt, Mike Seeger, Joseph Spence, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Ola Belle Reed, John Jackson, Jack McGann, Frank Wakefield, Peter Stampfel, Rosalie Sorrels, U. Utah Phillips, and Paul Siebel were among the artists who performed there. Hoyle got his real start as a performer by sitting in with many of those musicians.
