"Top Chef" winner Gabe Erales has issued a new apology amid his sexual misconduct scandal, admitting to past inappropriate behavior with an employee and committing to "personal growth."
"I have been silent not because I thought it would go away, but because I needed time with my family to start the healing process before making a public statement," Erales wrote in a post shared to Instagram on Friday. "To say I am sorry that I let my family, friends, staff, supporters, and my Top Chef family down may feel like an understatement at this moment, but it's the first step and a genuine start on my road to making amends."
Erales was let go as the executive chef of Comedor, a high-end Mexican restaurant in Austin, Texas, last December after he returned from filming "Top Chef." The Austin American-Statesman later reported that Erales was fired for cutting the hours of...

“Top Chef” host Padma Lakshmi called for an investigation into Season 18 winner Gabe Erales after allegations of misconduct were resurfaced following his victory this week.
In December 2020, Eater Austen reported that Erales was let go as the executive chef of Comedor, a high-end Mexican restaurant. Citing an email from chef and partner Philip Speer, Erales was discharged because of “repeated violations of our policies and for behavior in conflict with our values.” No further details were given at the time.
But on Friday, the Austin American-Statesman reported that Erales was fired after cutting the hours of an employee with whom he had a sexual relationship and engaging in “inappropriate communication” with her after that relationship ended.
“After I returned from ‘Top Chef,’ I made some business decisions as a manager that affected this employee and were found to be discriminatory and I realized that those were bad decisions,” Erales told the Statesman in a statement.

“Top Chef” Season 18 has placed its chef’s hat on a winner: Congratulations to Gabe Erales!
The victor of the 18th season of Bravo’s cooking competition, which took place in Portland, Oregon, amid the pandemic, was announced on Thursday’s finale episode. The installment featured a three-way showdown between “Top Chef: Portland” finalists Dawn Burrell, Gabe Erales and Shota Nakajima, who each prepared an epic spread for the judges and some special guests at Willamette Valley Vineyards.
After 13 grueling episodes of competition, which whittled down the Season 18 contestants from a group of 15 to this trio, Dawn, Gabe and Shota were given the assignment to serve up the best four-course meal of their lives for their final challenge.
The meals were served to “Top Chef” host Padma Lakshmi, head judge Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons, along with this season’s All-Star dining panel, and a few additional noteworthy guests, including Tiffany Derry,...
