Near the end of a November show at Dallas listening room the Kessler, singer-songwriter Joshua Ray Walker threw the assembled crowd for a loop when he brought out his friends Ottoman Turks for a surprise three-song set of furious, fast-paced Texas punk. Walker plays lead guitar in the band when he’s not performing solo, and their kinetic performance was the polar opposite of the traditional country and hushed ballads he had just finished singing.

Billy Law has left MasterChef Australia for a second time. The 34-year-old web designer was eliminated again last night when he lost out in a dessert-making challenge against Kate Bracks. Ellie Paxton-Hall, who had also been facing elimination, used her immunity pin to stay in the show. Law revealed in an interview with news.com.au that he was paid a weekly retainer of Au$$500 (£331) during filming. The national weekly minimum wage is Au$$589.30 (£390.23). "It's enough to survive to pay bills and things like that, but I'm not sure about a mortgage," he explained. "I'm lucky I don't have a mortgage." Law was originally eliminated earlier in the month when he failed to plate up an acceptable side dish during a (more)...

A MasterChef contestant has hastily deleted a Twitter message hinting at the show's next elimination. Billy Law posted a message suggesting that he had left the Channel Ten reality cooking show, the Sydney Morning Herald reports. He wrote: "Good to see you all again! I've cut the #MasterChef judges with my flavour and I'm outta here! Read about my experience." Law's message also included a link to his cookery blog A Table for Two. The blog post in question has since been removed, along with the tweet. The 34-year-old, who had not used his Twitter account since March, has already left the show once. However, he made a swift return when (more)...

Billy Law has revealed that MasterChef made him homesick. The 34-year-old web designer from New South Wales, who was eliminated from the Australian version of the cooking reality show earlier this week after failing to plate up an acceptable side dish in a pressure test, said that he did "badly" in his final challenge because he felt sad about being away from his loved ones for such a long time. Law told News.com.au: "I think one of the reasons I did quite badly recently is being away from home for five months. I did feel a little a bit homesick." He also said that the remaining MasterChef contestants are all feeling "homesick" too. MasterChef recently came under fire after psychologist Janet Hall said that bosses asking the competitors to spend six months away from their loved ones with only one brief phone conversation (more)...

Billy Law has left MasterChef. The 34-year-old web designer from New South Wales, who made it to the top ten contestants in the Australian version of the cooking reality show, was eliminated last night after failing to plate up an acceptable side dish in a pressure test. Law, Mat Beyer and Hayden Quinn went head-to-head in a task that saw Law fail to impress the judges with his salt encrusted guinea fowl and "raw" and "stained" beetroot salad. After the verdict was delivered, the wannabe chef said: "It was devastating to be told I was leaving and I really wanted to keep on going. I had achieved a lot and my experience on MasterChef was exciting."

Kumar Pereira has left MasterChef. The 62-year-old teacher, who made it to the top 11 of the Australian version of the cooking reality television show, was eliminated after failing to impress the judges with his pork neck steak with a thyme crust. Judges Gary Mehigan and Matt Preston told Pereira that while his pork was "beautifully cooked" and his apple sauce was "delicious", the crust on top of the meat tasted of "flour" and the dish was "loaded with butter". Pereira went head-to-head with Billy Law, Michael Weldon and Peter Vickery in the challenge. Law's chicken and prosciutto with roasted carrots was labelled a "wow" of a dish, with Preston adding: "You're right to be proud and confident. That's a dish that takes you not only to the top ten but potentially the top four." Vickery (more)...

Alex Glasson has described his time on MasterChef as "very stressful". The 27-year-old machinist from Western Australia, who was brought back to join the top 24 contestants on the reality show after fighter pilot Paul Lombardi dropped out, was eliminated in Monday night's show after going head-to-head with Billy Law and Ellie Paxton-Hall in a Bombe Alaska challenge. Glasson said in his official elimination interview: "Making the top 24 was outrageous for me because I didn't think it would ever happen, [but the competition is] very, very stressful. "My time in the kitchen was very hectic. I couldn't really find my feet with the timing of it all, because I'm used to taking hours and hours with the crazy stuff I do at home, so doing it within that tight timeframe was difficult. It was something I couldn't really adjust (more)...

Alex Glasson has left the Aussie version of MasterChef. The 27-year-old machinist from Western Australia, who was brought back to join the top 24 contestants last week after fighter pilot Paul Lombardi quit the show, was eliminated after failing to impress the judges with his interpretation of a cherry and coconut bombe Alaska. Glasson went head-to-head with student nurse Ellie Paxton-Hall and web designer Billy Law in the challenge. After the elimination, judge Gary Mehigan told him: "You should be proud of yourself. You put something up and it looked pretty good. So well done. It's a shame you're going home... you'll be missed sorely." Glasson said: "I'm not going to let this stop me. (more)...
