Clairo has returned to announce her new album, Charm, and shared the record’s first single, “Sexy to Someone.” Stream it below.
Set for release on July 12th, Charm is Clairo’s third album, and will arrive via her new label, Clairo Records. The album was produced by Leon Michels of the Dap-Kings and El Michels Affair, and it sees Clairo advancing on the ornate, jazz-and-folk-inspired work found in Sling. Recorded live to tape with an extensive ensemble of musicians, Clairo was inspired by the ambitious arrangements, songwriting, and recording technqiues of Harry Nilsson and Blossom Dearie.
After hopping on remixes of tracks from Phoenix and Beabadoobee and releasing a pair of singles on Bandcamp benefitting Doctors Without Borders last year, “Sexy to Someone” is Clairo’s first piece of new music since 2021’s Sling. With a driving drum beat, poppier melodies, a flute and saxophone line, and plenty of piano,...

Charm marks Cottrill’s third album, following 2021’s excellent Sling. She’s once again changed up her co-producer, working this time with Leon Michels, who previously produced Norah Jones, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings,...

Norah Jones has returned to announce her ninth studio album, Visions, out March 8th. She’s also mapped out a brief East Coast tour and shared the album’s lead single, “Running.” Stream it below.
Visions serves as Jones’ first album since 2020’s Pick Me Up Off the Floor, and is described in a statement as being about “feeling free, wanting to dance, making it right, and acceptance of what life brings.” Produced by Leon Michels, Visions features a more uplifting and soulful sound than her previous record.
“The reason I called the album Visions is because a lot of the ideas came in the middle of the night or in that moment right before sleep, and ‘Running’ was one of them where you’re half asleep and kind of jolted awake,” Jones said in a press release. “We did most of the songs in the same way where I...

Black Thought and El Michels Affair have shared another new song, “Glorious Game,” featuring Kirby, the title track from their collaborative album, out April 14.
The track is anchored by stuttering drums and a bulbous bass line, with Kirby’s from-the-heavens falsetto on the psych-soul chorus providing the perfect counterbalance to the Black Thought’s crystalline flow. “Glorious Game” is accompanied by an engrossing animated visual (helmed by Gugen Allan) that follows a panther as it roams through an otherworldly dreamscape.

The Roots’ Black Thought and soul outfit El Michels Affair have dropped a new song perfect for Valentine’s Day, “That Girl.”
The track finds Black Thought delivering tongue-twisting, devotional bars over an El Michels Affair groove anchored by heavy bass hits and clattering percussion but warmed by psychedelic touches. “At first love was elusive, this old heart was icy,” Black Thought raps, “The cold part, I thought the final wifey wasn’t likely/My lover, friend, my spiritual twin, yet nothing like me/And rightfully so I never met somebody/More striking than you.

Dan Auerbach’s the Arcs are on a search for the bright side on their latest single, “Sunshine.” The record doubles as a dedication to band member Richard Swift, whose background vocals and percussion are featured on the song he co-wrote in 2018 before his death at age 41.
“We’re waiting on the sunshine/Night was day now day is night/Won’t you help me see the light?” Auerbach asks on the chorus. “Sunshine” thematically circles lost time and missed opportunities, held together by a piano melody littered with punching horns.

The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach has reactivated his side project the Arcs for Electrophonic Chronic, the band’s first album since their 2015 debut Yours, Dreamily.
The LP features the Arcs’ original lineup of Dan Auerbach, Leon Michels, Nick Movshon, Homer Steinweiss, and the late Richard Swift, with the album paying tribute to the beloved singer-songwriter-producer-collaborator who died in 2018.
“This new record is all about honoring Swift,” Auerbach said in a statement. “It’s a way for us to say goodbye to him, by revisiting him playing and laughing, singing. It was heavy at times,...

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert closed out its third week on the air with musical guests the Arcs as the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach and company performed their Yours, Dreamily single "Outta My Mind." With the music video's psychedelic light show emanating in the background, the Arcs delivered a riveting take on the track, including a killer Auerbach guitar solo.
As Auerbach told Rolling Stone, the Arcs allow the singer to tap into his "Deadhead side," and the band's electric live performances showcase that musicianship. "The Arcs scratch...

Black Keys front man Dan Auerbach has a new band, the Arcs, and their debut album is streaming now via NPR. The Arcs' debut album is called Yours, Dreamily, and it has a more loosey-goosey psychedelic feel to it than the Keys' blues-rock. Auerbach has said of the album, “I wanted everything to flow [and] be cohesive. A lot of the songs bleed one into the other, a lot like the Grateful Dead — my favorite records that they did. So I’ve got a lot of connected songs. It’s basically everything I love about music all wrapped up into one record — that’s all!” The Arcs also consist of Truth and Soul Records founder Leon Michels, Black Keys touring bassist Richard Swift, Menahan Street Band member Homer Steinweiss, Amy Winehouse collaborator Nick Movshon, guitarist Kenny Vaughan, and an all-female mariachi band called Mariachi Flor de Toloache. Yours, Dreamily comes out...
