Buy low, sell high. Mark Cuban just proved himself a master of that tried-and-true investment mantra.
The Shark Tank mainstay is not only swimming away from that show after 14 successful seasons, he has now received approval from the NBA Board of Governors to sell the majority stake in his beloved Dallas Mavericks.
Cuban bought the Mavericks for $285 million in 2000 is now selling the team for about $3.5 billion. That’s a cool $3-plus billion over the purchase price and Cuban will reportedly retain 27% of the team and may well retain control of basketball operations. A pretty sweet deal.
Per Yahoo Sports:
Cuban is selling at a time franchise values are rising (in part based on a new national television broadcast deal starting in 2025 [that is] expected to double that national revenue) and likely expansion will bring a flood of cash to teams’ bottom lines (through expansion fees). They believed that the Kelce brothers, Travis and Jason, were the likely inspiration for this increase.

He played against his brother in the Super Bowl and released a documentary about his career this September.
This two-time Super Bowl winner even managed to be a finalist for People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” list.

With the launch of Pepsi Max’s “Uncle Drew” campaign in 2012, there was a touch of Eddie Murphy in Coming to America and a dash of Jackass, with a covert Kyrie Irving under piles of Hollywood makeup, pairing surprising improv comedy chops with his incredible hoop skills. What there wasn’t, however, was any overt sense that this irresistible short film happened to be, in fact, a soda commercial.

Update: Austin Reaves is returning to the Los Angeles Lakers. Reaves, a restricted free agent, agreed to a four-year, $56 million Early Bird maximum contract. He proved himself this season, averaging 16.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists for the Lakers in 16 playoff games.
The Lakers also reached a deal for guard D’Angelo Russell to return on a two-year, $37 million deal, ESPN reported. The Lakers also signed free agent cente Jaxson Hayes.
The deals keep General Manager Rob Pelinka’s promise to keep his team’s young core together. Pelinka is eyeing the future, when 38-year-old LeBron James is likely to no longer be with the team. James’s contract runs through the 2024-2025 season.
Earlier: Forget that fever dream of Kyrie Irving reuniting with LeBron James for one last charge at a championship.
Irving took the path of least resistance, agreeing to return to the Dallas Mavericks for a three-year, $126 million deal, his agent confirmed.

Dick Wolf is easily one of modern television's most prolific producers, if not the most prolific. His impact on network television can't be understated thanks to his work on the "Law & Order" franchise and "Miami Vice." What many may forget is that he's also had his hand in the film industry, writing the scripts for films such as "Masquerade" and "No Man's Land."
However, if there is one film of his that is worth talking about today, it's "School Ties." Starring a who's who of future acting stars, it centers around the conflicts surrounding a Jewish teenager in 1959 that starts attending a fancy prep school seemingly consisting of Anglo-Saxon bullies. David (Brendan Fraser) is, for a time, caught between two worlds — one where he needs to hide his Jewish faith and heritage, and another where he doesn't. Unfortunately, those worlds end up colliding in ways he could have never anticipated.

No stranger to controversy, Joe Rogan this week offered the following generalization about Jews on his massively popular Spotify show: “The idea that Jewish people are not into money is ridiculous. That’s like saying Italians aren’t into pizza.”
Rogan was speaking to onetime MSNBC contributor Krystal Ball about Rep. Ilhan Omar’s 2019 tweet that Israel’s defenders in the U.S. were motivated solely by money.
“It’s all about the Benjamins baby,” wrote Omar at the time. The tweet drew a swift rebuke from leaders on both sides of the aisle, including then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Omar later recanted, writing, “I unequivocally apologize.”
The Spotify host’s statements this week were part of a conversation about Rep. Adam Schiff.

The Dallas Mavericks have a problem. They have a star player in Luka Dončić, a generational talent who can handle, score, pass, boards Ok, has an eerie step-back three-point shot, good size, the exact sort of dude you want on your team. Aside from Luka, they are packing a bunch of role players. Last year, the Mavs won 52 games, beat an openly-choking Suns team in the second round, and lost to the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals. Luka, it appeared, had made it. He was a shit-hot boy from...

Los Angeles Lakers fans dreaming of a “Big Three” on the team if Kyrie Irving joined are not going to like what happened this afternoon.
Instead of joining LeBron James and Anthony Davis, Irving is headed from the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks.
Brooklyn gets back guard Spencer Dinwiddie (a former Net), as well as forward Dorian Finney-Smith, an unprotected 2029 first-round selection, as well as 2027 and 2029 second-round picks. The news was first reported by the Athletic.
Irving is averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 assists and 5.1 rebounds and was named to the all-star team. But his time in Brooklyn was filled with turmoil, culminating in a suspension for endorsing a film filled with antisemitic tropes. He also missed two-thirds of last season due to his refusal to adhere to New York’s Covid-19 vaccine mandates.

All-star guard Kyrie Irving will be on the move from the Brooklyn Nets as of Thursday, the NBA trade deadline.
The Los Angeles Lakers are among the teams in the hunt for Irving’s services. His addition would boost the Lakers chances to go far in the NBA playoffs this spring, adding a weapon to James and center Anthony Davis to create a formidable superstar trio.
James has had his difficulties with Irving, stemming from their time together on the Cleveland Cavaliers. But Irving has allegedly apologzed for his behavior back then, and James seems anxious to bolster his chances of yet another championship in the twilight of his career.
Asked Saturday night if he wants Irving to join the team, James was crystal clear.
“Obviously, that’s a — what’s the word you use — ‘duh’ question when you talk about a player like that,” James said following the Lakers...

“You People,” Kenya Barris’ feature directorial debut for Netflix, is laden with good intentions: Collaborating with Jonah Hill as a co-writer and star for this new comedy makes sense when one considers that both men are Los Angeles natives celebrated for their comedic flair and also devotees of hip-hop culture. Add to that the reunion of co-stars Eddie Murphy and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, both comic giants who came up together on “SNL” in the 1980s, and expectations run high.
But good intentions aren’t enough to float what is essentially a hip-hop–tinged, LA-centric comedic update of “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner.” It’s a concept that has seen a few iterations over the years — most notably 2005’s “Guess Who,” starring Bernie Mac, Ashton Kutcher, and Zoe Saldana — and “You People” also draws some inspiration from “Meet The Parents,” with faith-based differences providing most of the tension.

In the mood for a good haunting but don’t want to be scared?
Then, you might want to check out the new trailer for We Have a Ghost. The comedy is a Netflix original starring the streaming service’s Stranger Things star, David Harbour, and Anthony Mackie. The movie looks to have a fun twist on the typical tropes of a family moving into a new home in a new town that knows of rumors of an apparition in said home. Harbour’s spectre is the friendliest ghost outside of Casper and hijinks ensue when he and Mackie’s family start co-existing as local celebrities.
The official Netflix synopsis reads,
“Ernest the ghost, discovered by the homeowner who named him that because the apparation looks like Ernest Borgnine. The homeowner Frank, begins filming his ghost and posting it for the world to see on social media. Ernest becomes a viral sensation.

Nostalgia reigns supreme this holiday season with the Peacock limited series continuation of director/writer Malcolm D. Lee’s successful “The Best Man” film franchise. In a rarity for most networks — streaming, broadcast, or otherwise — that Lee, whose more recent hits include Tiffany Haddish’s breakout “Girls Trip,” got all his original stars from both the 1999 film “The Best Man” and its 2013 sequel “The Best Man Holiday” to revive their characters once again for eight episodes.
Considering that those stars aren’t exactly waiting by the phone, that is quite a feat, especially when other less ambitious efforts (“Friends: The Reunion” anyone?) haven’t quite gone as smoothly. With a cast that includes Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs (“All American”), Regina Hall Terence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long (“NCIS: Los Angeles”), and Harold Perrineau, it’s more than impressive. The fact that they are all here — including Lee himself and Melissa De Sousa,...

What seemed like an ordinary Friday evening commute turned into a raucous Toronto Raptors rally for several Go Train riders thanks to the team’s No. 1 stan.
Raptors Superfan Nav Bhatia ambushed Go’s Lakeshore West train as part of an “immersive” activation by The Bay to promote their second apparel collaboration with the team, which dropped last month.
The takeover began at Toronto’s Clarkson Station, where the evening’s emcee, Et Canada’s own Jedson Tavernier, announced to passengers that they were now aboard the most lit Raptors pre-game party in town, as free swag and snacks were handed out.

In the midst of his massive farewell tour, Sir Elton John took the time to say another goodbye this morning.
“I’ve decided to no longer use Twitter, given their recent change in policy which will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked,” John wrote on Twitter.
The platform has been at the center of a number of controversies of late, most notably antisemitic posts on the platform by Kanye West and Kyrie Irving, which were condemned by the Adl, Ari Emanuel, LeBron James and many others.
Then, less than two weeks ago, Twitter announced it will no longer enforce a policy to combat misinformation about the Covid pandemic.
“Effective November 23, 2022, Twitter is no longer enforcing the Covid-19 misleading information policy,” a note on Twitter’s transparency pages read.
There have also been Musk’s own erroneous and borderline anti-Semitic tweets, which have also drawn wide rebuke.

Ari Emanuel returned to his hometown today to decry “the virus of antisemitism and hate and division” that is “spreading and attacking the foundations of our culture.”
In an op-ed for the Chicago Tribune, the Windy City-born Endeavor CEO called out the “cartoonish Kanye clown show,” Dave Chappelle, the Republican Party and Donald Trump for “the normalization of white supremacy, antisemitism and racism” in American society. “In the last year, we’ve seen how antisemitic conspiracies from the far right about Jewish control of politics, finance and Hollywood have become mainstreamed,” the former agent to the ex-Celebrity Apprentice host wrote (see the full op-ed below)
“So yes, keep our eye on the bigger picture — of course condemn cartoonish antisemitism and racism and hate, but also condemn more subtle and insidious forms of conspiracy theories that have no basis in fact,” Emanuel concluded in the op-ed.

The Kyrie Irving-boosted book and film Hebrews to Negroes: Wake up Black America will remain for sale on Amazon, CEO Andy Jassy confirmed, despite a celebrity-backed petition calling for their removal.
In an appearance at the New York Times DealBook conference, Andy Jassy described the task of labeling or removing any works “whose primary purpose is not to espouse hate” a “very slippery slope.”
Moderating content for sale on Amazon “is one of the trickiest issues we deal with,” Jassy said. “Some cases are more straightforward — if you have works that actively promote or incite violence, or teaches people how to do things like pedophilia, those are easy. We don’t allow those. … When you have content whose primary purpose is not to espouse hate or ascribe negative characteristics to people, that is much trickier and a very slippery slope if we take a lot of those out of the store.

Kyrie Irving will be back playing basketball again for the Brooklyn Nets after an emotional apology today. He was serving an indefinite suspension and had missed eight games for supporting a film containing antisemitic tropes. The Nets lifted his suspension an hour after the apology.
He will be part of the team facing Memphis Sunday night at Barclays Center.
“I just want to offer my deep apologies to all those who are impacted over these last few weeks, specifically my Jewish relatives, my black relatives, all races and cultures,” Irving said. “I feel like we all felt the impact. And I don’t stand for anything close to hate speech, or anti-Semitism or anything that is anti- going against the human race.
“I feel it was necessary for me to stand in this place and take accountability for my actions, because there was a way I should have handled all this.

Dave Chappelle’s friend and fellow comedian Jon Stewart has come out defending the former’s controversial but highly watched ‘Saturday Night Live monologue’, which was criticised by the Anti-Defamation League for popularising anti-semitic sentiments.
During his appearance on ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’, Stewart pushed back on the belief that Chappelle “normalised anti-semitism” with his 15-minute commentary that involved Kanye West’s and Kyrie Irving’s recent scandals, reports Vanity Fair.
“I don’t know if you’ve been on comment sections on most news articles, but it’s pretty f***ing normal. As you know, it’s incredibly normal,” Stewart said. “But the one thing I will say is, I don’t believe that censorship and penalties are the way to end anti-semitism or to not gain understanding. I don’t believe in that, and I think it’s the wrong way for us to approach it.

Jon Stewart weighed in on the antisemitism debate surrounding Dave Chappelle, Kanye “Ye” West and Kyrie Irving during a guest appearance on CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night.
Giving one of his characteristically nuanced-yet-contrarian takes, Stewart earnestly told his former Daily Show colleague that he doesn’t “believe censorship and penalties are the way to end antisemitism.”
Stewart called Chappelle his “very good friend” in the wake of Chappelle’s Saturday Night Live monologue, which the Anti-Defamation League has described as “popularizing antisemitism.”
Stewart, who is of Jewish heritage, rejected the idea that Chappelle “normalized antisemitism,” and said: “I don’t know if you’ve been on comments sections on most news articles, but it’s pretty fucking normal … I don’t believe that censorship and penalties are the way to end antisemitism or to not gain understanding. I don’t believe in that.

Jon Stewart Defends Dave Chappelle from Antisemitism Controversy: ‘Censorship’ Is the Wrong Approach
On the most recent episode of “Saturday Night Live,” Dave Chappelle made headlines for his opening monologue — not for any jokes about the trans community, as the comedian has put in his stand-up, but instead for his commentary on the recent wave of antisemitic rhetoric from prominent figures like Kanye West and Kyrie Irving. While several prominent figures have criticized Chappelle’s monologue, he has a defender in fellow comedian and friend Jon Stewart.

Jon Stewart visited his old chum Stephen Colbert on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” ostensibly to promote Stewart’s own show, “The Problem with Jon Stewart.” But the two “Daily Show” alumni had a different late-night program on their minds: “Saturday Night Live.” During the talk, Stewart, whose Jewish identity is core to much of his comedy, ultimately came out, to a degree, in support of Dave Chappelle.
Chappelle recently gave a controversial 15-minute monologue on “SNL” in which he mocked Kanye West for his obnoxious and ignorant antisemitic comments of late, but he did so in a way that also stoked outrage. In the wake of the “SNL” broadcast last week, Chappelle was condemned for reiterating many Jew-hating tropes his jokes about West and Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving were meant to condemn.

Jon Stewart appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday evening, and addressed recent controversies surrounding Kanye West, Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving and comedian Dave Chappelle. During the 12-minute segment, Stewart told his former Daily Show colleague, “I don’t believe censorship and penalties are the way to end antisemitism.”
West was in the headlines last month as companies cut ties with him over repeated antisemitic remarks. Irving posted a link to a movie that espouses disproven antisemitic tropes and was suspended from the Nets and dropped by Nike.
Stewart began his chat with Colbert on a lighter tone before turning quite serious.
“The Kanye thing… he can be erratic and that didn’t surprise me. The Kyrie thing surprised me a bit — you don’t expect to get it from someone named Irving,” quipped Stewart.
He added, “Now everybody calls me and says ‘Did you see Dave on SNL?...

Jon Stewart defended his friend Dave Chappelle during his appearance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” Tuesday evening, commenting on the comedian’s recent “Saturday Night Live” monologue, which Anti-Defamation League leadership criticized for “popularizing” antisemitic sentiments.
“Everybody calls me like, ‘You see Dave on “SNL”?’ And I say yes, we’re very good friends. I always watch and send nice texts,” Stewart began. “‘He normalized antisemitism with the monologue.’ I don’t know if you’ve been on comment sections on most news articles, but it’s pretty normal. It’s incredibly normal. But the one thing I will say is I don’t believe that censorship and penalties are the way to end antisemitism or to gain understanding. I don’t believe in that. It’s the wrong way for us to approach it.”

Dave Chappelle’s “SNL” episode drew the sketch-comedy show’s best Nielsen numbers of the young season. This iteration of Chappelle’s biannual post-election “Saturday Night Live”-hosting duties drew a 0.90 rating among adults 18-49, the show’s best since Will Ferrell’s return in January. Chappelle attracted 4.8 million total viewers, the show’s largest audience since Jake Gyllenhaal hosted an April episode.
Previously, this season’s highest-rated (0.79 among adults 18-49) and most-watched (4.322 million viewers) “SNL” had come from Amy Schumer’s turn the previous week. Of the now-six episodes thus far, Megan Thee Stallion’s on October 15 was the lowest-rated (0.66) and least-watched (3.711 million).
So the Chappelle performance was strong. But it didn’t come without controversy. And it didn’t take Chappelle long to generate said controversy.

“Good Night Oppy” lived up to its name. The space doc about rovers on Mars took the top honors at the 7th Annual Critics Choice Awards in midtown Manhattan. The move from Brooklyn (where the show had been produced for the last six years) was an upgrade. “Take a look around the Edison Ballroom,” ‘Oppy’ filmmaker Ryan White said. “It was a theater for over 60 years and did ‘Oh Calcutta’ for 13 years. Totally nude with sex-related sketches written by Sam Shepard, Samuel Beckett, Jules Feiffer and John Lennon.” Okay, yes, this place in the Edison Hotel is cooler.
Comic Wyatt Cenac hosted. “Keep making good stuff,” he told the audience. “So next year we don’t have to turn this thing into an awards show for TikTok explainer videos.” The star power was amped up for the new digs. Paul Shaeffer gave “The Beatles: Get Back” its Best Musical Doc award.
