Exclusive: Asia-focused production, financing and sales outfit Est Studios has acquired international sales rights to Canneseries selection Streams Flow From A River, produced by Canada’s Fae Pictures.
Created by Christopher Yip, the English-language series is premiering in the Canneseries Short Form Competition at MipTV.
The series follows the struggles of a Chinese-Canadian immigrant family, who dream of owning land and place their bets on a laundromat in a tiny rural town in Alberta, Canada. When a freak snowstorm traps the dysfunctional family together, they are forced to confront events from a decade ago that tore them all apart.
The ensemble cast includes veteran Chinese-Canadian actors Jane Luk and Simon Sinn; rising stars Liam Ma and Danielle Ayow; Canadian TV actor Jinny Wong; Hong Kong-Canadian actor Raymond Chan, and newcomers Dana Liu and Adrian So.

Est Studios, the fast-rising finance, production and sales company specialising in Asian content for the global market, has expanded its team with the hire of Michelle Lee as acquisition and distribution executive.
Based in Los Angeles, Lee will focus on forging partnerships with Asian studios and production entities and represent Asian and Asian-American films for sales at the leading international film markets. She reports to head of film and TV Juefang Zhang.

Exclusive: Anderson .Paak, the eight-time Grammy Award winner born Brandon Paak Anderson, will make his feature directorial debut with the dramatic comedy K-pops! for Stampede Ventures—starring in the film alongside his son, Soul Rasheed.
The film centers on a washed-up musician who travels to Korea to write for K-pop stars, discovering that his long-lost son is set to front one of the country’s hottest new groups. He then jumps at the opportunity to capitalize on his son’s stardom for his own renaissance, but learns that fatherhood is much more fulfilling and meaningful than stardom.
.Paak developed the project with rapper Jon “Dumbfoundead” Park, writing the screenplay with Khaila Amazan (A Cuban Girl’s Guide To Tea And Tomorrow). Greg Silverman will produce on behalf of Stampede Ventures, with Jaeson Ma on behalf of Est Studios, Park on behalf of Big Dummie and .Paak via his company Apeshit Films.

Launching just ahead of the European Film Market — which officially kicks off Feb. 10 — the company specializes in premium film and episodic content.
