“While the Green Grass Grows” by Peter Mettler won the Grand Prix of the International Feature Film Competition at the 54th edition of Visions du Réel, in Nyon, Switzerland, on Friday.
The Swiss-Canadian director was competing with an unusual project: made in the form of a diary filmed from 2019 to 2021, “While the Green Grass Grows” is in fact a series of seven episodes with a total duration of about 11 hours. It was the finished parts one and six of the series, totalling 166 minutes, that were unveiled in world premiere at Visions du Réel and running for the Grand Prix.
The whole project was also presented in the Work-in-Progress section in order to find other financing and distribution platforms to finalize the remaining parts, which have already been widely edited. This is the second time that Mettler has won the Grand Prix at Visions du Réel, after his victory in 2002 with “Gambling,...

The first ever feature by young director Paloma Sermon-Daï, the film is an intimate and hard-hitting documentary about addiction as seen through the eyes of a devastatingly moving couple made up of a mother and her son. "An absolutely wonderful and incredibly modest film that’s overwhelming yet very funny, and beautifully shot", explained Samuel Benchetrit. The movie also won the Agnès Award for an Egalitarian Imaginary, created last year in honour of Agnès Varda. Produced by Michigan Films and presented in.

As Paolo Moretti prepares to take over as the new head of the Directors’ Fortnight, the Cannes festival sidebar on Tuesday unveiled a new selection committee.
The team comprises a handful of film festival veterans, including Paolo Bertolin, Anne Delseth, Claire Diao, Valentina Novati and Morgan Pokee.
The new committee is made up of three women and two men, which, counting Moretti, gives the selection committee an equal gender split. That reaches the sidebar’s promised goal of 50/50x2020, or a 50:50 gender split by 2020, which Moretti signed in May alongside Cannes Film Festival head Thierry Fremaux and Critics’...
