Life as a vampire in London 1918 isn’t an easy job to undertake, especially when you are a surgeon. With the streets full of vampire hunters and even the odd werewolf, you are in control of just how chaotic the streets are. So what will you do in Vampyr, feed off the innocent to get that lovely Xp, or keep them healthy to make sure London remains stable?
That is your job as Doctor Jonathan Reid. In the beginning of the game you wake up on a mass grave in London. Set in 1918 when the Spanish Flu is ravishing the city the medical services are struggling to help the districts of the capital, so you lend them a hand.
The problem with being a vampire of course is the need to feed. While you can take the Interview with the Vampire approach and feed off a few rats, the best...

Dontnod Entertainment, known for the Life Is Strange series, is well-regarded for their captivating stories and characters who are both tragic and believable. I was never particularly drawn to Life is Strange‘s investigatory gameplay and time-rewinding mechanics, but I knew the narrative was what drew people in. Vampyr sees the studio trying their hand at both the writitng and characters they’re known for along with action-oriented gameplay which, at a glance, is very reminiscent of Bloodborne. Basically Van-Helsing: check. Lots of blood and blood-related mechanics: check. Fluid, responsive combat: not check.
Vampyr sees the player in control of a healer-turned-horror, Dr. Jonathan Reid, as he tries to unravel the mystery of his assailant and newfound vampiric abilities. His motivations are reasonable, and he’s well-written enough to convey some empathy, if a little milquetoast. The irony of a doctor that must feed on the living to sustain himself is waxed on thick,...

Publisher Focus Home Interactive and developer Dontnod Entertainment revealed more details about their upcoming action role-playing game “Vampyr” during a Twitch livestream Thursday.
“Vampyr” takes place in 1918 London during the height of the Spanish Flu. As physician-turned-vampire Dr. Jonathan Reid, the player will work on a cure while fighting other supernatural creatures and stalking human prey throughout the city.
The stream, which takes place about six hours into the game, shows Dr. Reid investigating a shady nurse in Whitechapel. As a vampire, he obviously needs a steady supply of blood to survive, and all of the game’s non-playable characters are potential unwilling donors, said creative director Philippe Moreau. There are about 60 NPCs roaming the streets of London and each has a name, a backstory, relationships, and sometimes secrets.
They also each have a unique stat called blood quality. NPCs with higher blood quality are worth more experience, and collecting...

At last year’s E3, Focus Home Interactive’s Vampyr showcase was, by necessity, a lot more conceptual than visual (you know, seeing as how the game was still in the very early stages of development). But as someone who loved Dontnod’s work on Life is Strange, I found myself frustrated trying to imagine all the moral ambiguity and emotional impact that developers Stéphane Beauverger and Grégory Szucs said would be in the game without a longer, more detailed look at the actual mechanics. Well, it’s now a year later, and my wish to get a real feel for how Vampyr works has been granted. My hands may not have been on the controller, but just watching the creators play through a small section of the game was enough to bring it to the top of my most-wanted list.

Coming in November 2017 Vampyr looks like a dark ride.
I’ve always liked vampire games or Vampyr which I’m not sure why it’s spelled like that. But regardless the genre could use a little revitalization. I’ve professed before my love of games like Darkwatch, Legacy of Kain, and Castlevania Symphony of the Night. Vampyr from DontNod Entertainment has you assuming the role of Dr. Jonathan Reid in 1918 London. With London well into a flu plague at this point you find yourself returned from “The Great War” and forcibly attacked and turned into a creature of the night. The conflict of being a doctor and knowingly having to inflict pain on persons to stay alive will be a constant plot point throughout the game.
Your actions will determine the direction of the game as you’re torn between who you feed on. The other plot will be you...

Dontnod Entertainment is not a studio to rest on its laurels.
Three years ago, the French developer ventured into cyberpunk territory with the divisive action-adventure title Remember Me, before breaking new ground with Life is Strange in 2015. Released as an episodic series a la Telltale Games, Life is Strange won over the hearts and minds of players with a poignant time-travel story all wrapped up in the nostalgic seaside town of Arcadia Bay.
Fast forward to now and we arrive at Vampyr, a new IP crafted in collaboration with Focus Home Interactive that is literally worlds away from teenage angst and Neo-Paris. In the game, you’ll step into the grubby shoes of Dr. Jonathan Reid, a skilled professional who just so happens to moonlight as a vampire. Set in Victorian London during the devastating outbreak of Spanish flu – around 1918, then – Dontnod’s new creative venture is teeming with potential,...

After plenty of reveals and previews, Dontnod Entertainment, best known for their work on Remember Me, and more recently, the critically acclaimed Life is Strange, have finally pulled back the curtain on their upcoming title, Vampyr. While a concept teaser for the game was revealed last year, news and information has been rather slow to surface. However, earlier today, Dontnod released a brand new trailer, which shows off close to 15 minutes of gameplay.
For the uninitiated, Vampyr is set in London during the year 1918, a period where the city’s inhabitants are subject to a rather nasty strain of influenza. Of course, this parallels real world events, mirroring the Spanish Flu epidemic that broke out as the events of World War I were drawing to a close. The outbreak claimed the lives of over 50 million people, with over 500 million infected at some point or another.
During these events, the player takes control of Jonathan Reid,...

Last year, Paris’ own Dontnod Entertainment made its mark on the industry and sent ripples throughout it, when it released its episodic narrative, Life is Strange. A five-part tale, it proved to be exactly what the doctor ordered for a lot of people, and quickly cemented itself as one of the most popular and well-liked games of 2015.
This year, Dontnod returned to E3 with a new project to show off; that being its historically-set action-rpg, Vampyr. Existing as the developer’s first Focus Home Interactive-published effort, the game is scheduled for a 2017 release and looks to be worth the wait.
So, what exactly is Vampyr? Well, from the looks of things, it’s a rich and involved action RPG that will bring players’ morals into play. Why is that? Well, its main character — Doctor Jonathan Reid — just so happens to be a vampire with a conscience, and he feels that...

A doctor struggles to control his bloodthirsty urges in the E3 trailer for Dontnod’s Vampyr, a new action horror video game set in the early 20th century and slated for a 2017 release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC:
“Vampyr, the new Action-rpg from acclaimed game-development studio Dontnod, explores protagonist Jonathan Reid’s moral plight in the E3 trailer. Set in London, 1918, Vampyr promises to offer a unique and deeply immersive experience with a strong and engaging narrative steeped in vampire mythology. The E3 trailer unveiled today introduces the nightmare your hero must live every day now he has become a real monster.
You play as a veteran of World War I, Doctor Jonathan Reid as he tries to come to terms with his transition, and the hunger that drives him to kill. Vampyr includes a unique level-up system that plays on this narrative conundrum, where huge amounts of experience points can be gained by feeding on innocent people, compared to combat. As a doctor, you must decide how many lives must be sacrificed in order for you to find a cure for this “disease”, the ultimate goal of Jonathan.
Taking lives in London is not easy. Killing too many in a district may cause its infrastructure to collapse and turn into disarray. Every single life will also have a butterfly effect on the other NPCs surrounding them; a merchant’s wife could be killed and he could decide to close shop and leave town. Every life you take away will have consequences for the city and the people around them: Cursed be the choice!
Vampyr comes out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2017.”
