Paris – The intersection of Hollywood with the luxury industry just took an enormous leap forward with the acquisition of Creative Artists Agency by the French fashion and luxury giant led by Artemis CEO Francois-Henri Pinault.
While historic in the sense that a fashion-led company has never before made this kind of investment in Hollywood, it also says a lot about the changing face of entertainment economics. Endorsement deals and fashion contracts for actors, musicians and sports figures represent a significant source of income for top talent (especially during a labor shutdown).
And relationships to talent are a burning necessity for fashion brands, who effectively use actors rather than models to sell their wares.
The competition for relationships for those at the top of the talent chain — Rihanna, Beyonce, Zendaya, Ryan Gosling, Cate Blanchett — is stiff. Having an in-the-family relationship with a talent agency will make a difference.

That long line of cones splicing Sunset Boulevard on Thursday night, steering traffic away from the famed Chateau Marmont, came with good reason. Ashley Olsen and Elizabeth “Lizzie the Sundance Queen” Olsen Much like how their corporate cousin Vanity Fair swallows Oscar week’s glitterati, W Magazine Editor In Chief Stefano Tonchi, Best Performances guru Lynn Hirshberg, and their glossy squad drew the power players around Golden Globes weekend into a single.

One of the first to arrive was Natalie Portman. The Oscar winner chatted with the magazine's Stefano Tonchi and Lynn Hirschberg and then had a quick hello with Emma Stone before heading out the door to head to a screening of her film Jackie, hosted by Julia Roberts. Stone, who is recovering from strep throat, gave a big hug to Moonlight's Mahershala Ali at the inside bar. Nearby was Justin Timberlake chatting with his Trolls co-star James Corden (fingers crossed they were making plans for J.T. to finally...

This was the case for Gianni Versace who was 19 — and had not yet founded the revered Versace fashion house — when he directed his sister, Donatella Versace, to dye her hair blonde. She was 11. The inspiration? Patty Pravo, an Italian singer.

Last night, yet again finding myself at a New York party, I posed the very same question being posed, like clockwork, all over New York: Were culture and capital ever such charming bedfellows? The answer? Oh, why not! And so I found myself embracing a spirit of our time, and had a genuinely grand evening watching luminaries and luminary-adjacent people watch two of New York’s indefatigable culture creators — Stefano Tonchi, the editor of W magazine, and Ian Schrager, the Studio 54 entrepreneur and hotelier — suavely co-celebrate their new brainchildren. Like many great men, they are good friends. “He was the owner of the Royalton,” says Tonchi with spirited elegance, of Schrager. “Don’t forget! Nothing else came after that!” I have not forgotten — since I never knew — and instead direct the conversation back to the topic at hand: this party at the Clocktower building on Madison Square.

South Korea is the new South Africa is the new Uruguay — wait, that’s how it goes in terms of design hot-spots, right? Whatever the chronology may be — and as long overdue as a global conversation about design may be — there are always moments where we find ourselves returning, once more, to Italy, the cradle of a certain kind of luxurious, modern design. For the next installment of New York's Collective Design fair — held this coming spring at Skylight Clarkson Sq., and in its third iteration (and timed to coincide with Frieze New York) — the spotlight will be on innovation within Italian design. A heady assignment when one considers all there is to love — Cassina! Fornasetti! Alessi! — from the last century alone.Who will be answering as curator? None other than W's Stefano Tonchi, who, besides being an expert Italian, personally knows many of the exhibitors.

A bevy of Conde Nast fashion editors will soon be appearing on ABC Family, Women's Wear Daily reports this morning.
In January, Stefano Tonchi, Amy Astley and Brandon Holley, the editors in chief of W, Teen Vogue and Lucky, respectively, will appear on the kid-friendly channel.
