Toby Keith, whose history with the CMT Music Awards goes back to having co-hosted the earliest incarnation of the show, will get his due in the wake of his recent death, as an all-star salute is planned for Keith on Sunday night’s three-hour CBS telecast.
The tribute will feature performances by one of the hottest figures in country music, Lainey Wilson, along with his fellow industry veterans Brooks & Dunn, whose Ronnie Dunn is a fellow Okie. Rocker Sammy Hagar, who featured Keith on an episode of his TV series “Rock & Roll Road Trip” in 2022, will join the lineup paying homage.
Set for what’s being billed as special appearances saluting the late singer are Lukas Nelson and Roger Clemens. Nelson’s father, Willie, had a smash duet with Keith, “Beer for My Horses.” Baseball legend Roger Clemens’ friendship with Keith included the singer inducting the ballplayer into the Houston Sports Hall of Fame.

Exclusive: Into The Mystery, a documentary about South Carolina rock band Needtobreathe, will get a fall release in North America after Greenwich Entertainment snapped up the distribution rights.
The film, which is directed by Chris Phelps, will be released after the band’s 38-date fall tour across the U.S.
The doc chronicles the recording of the band’s latest album, during which the group decamped to a historic house-turned-recording studio in remote Tennessee to work on new music during the height of Covid and without telling a soul.

The band, featuring Bear Rinehart, Seth Bolt and Josh Lovelace, has sold over 2M albums and 2B streams. The film is produced in partnership with Elektra Records and Foundations Music.

It may seem counterintuitive that June’s annual CMT Music Awards would not premiere on CMT each year, but the formerly cable-only only show is moving up in the world, as it’ll move to the CBS prime-time schedule beginning in 2022.
It probably isn’t coincidental that CBS and the Academy of Country Music Awards have recently gone through a fairly public breakup, creating the opportunity for the network to look no further than within its own ViacomCBS house for a rebound romance. Moving the CMTs to ViacomCBS’ namesake network allows CBS to put all those resources into an in-house franchise and not pay the mammoth licensing fee that was a sticking point in ACM re-up negotiations.
If the usual June date for the CMTs were to hold, it would not be that far off from the April date that used to be set in stone for the ACMs on CBS every year.

Season 14 of “The Voice” begins its Top 12 live shows on Monday, April 23 when a dozen artists take to the stage and sing for America’s votes. Six-time champ Blake Shelton is coaching three of those hopefuls. Two of them — Pryor Baird and Kyla Jade— won the public vote. Shelton chose the third, Spensha Baker, from his four remaining contestants in the Top 24. That decision meant the elimination of Gary Edwards, Austin Giorgio and Wilkes.
We asked you which of these three artists that didn’t make the grade with Shelton was the most deserving to move on to the live shows. The overwhelming choice was Wilkes who garnered a whopping 82% of your votes. Giorgio netted 11% while Edwards managed just 7%.
If you haven’t voted in our poll yet, take read of the brief recap of each of these three artists and then cast your ballot as to which was the best.
