Iain McKinna is a sound engineer, musician, music and audio producer who has been in the recording studio business since 1976. He is currently involved in many successful recordings and audio projects.
Offbeat Studios and Offbeat Audio Ltd in Edinburgh's Royal Mile was established in 1994 along with his wife and studio manager Kirsty McKinna. Amongst many other companies the studio makes recordings for BBC TV & Radio, Channel 4. ITV, Sky Cinema, Fox TV, Bento Box, HBO & Titmouse animation as well as producing audio books for Penguin Random House, Harpers, Hatchette & Canongate Books.
Iain currently produces Audio for Voice Overs, Podcasts, Sound to picture, ADR, Voice Dialogue, Audio Editing, Music production and Composition.
Background Info:
He started out at Edinburgh's Southside Studios in 1976 and recorded many well known Punk and New Wavebands. TV21 / The Scars / Freeze and The Valves. He ran Sonic Studios from 1987 till 1992 and worked for Sony Records, EMI Music, Virgin Records, Charisma, Zomba, Polygram & Polydor Records. World Music chart success was achieved with Talitha Mackenzies 'Solas' For World Music Network with placements of no3 in the USA and no12 in the European World Music Charts. He produced the first Sufi Music album of Bayefall Music from Senegal with Hamed Kane in 1999. He was signed as a songwriter to Simon Cowell's publishing company E&S Music in 1982/4 with the band Flying Colours with musical partner Jamie Campbell, Other credits include Tam White - Mike Heron, Nick Straker, Whitehouse, The Bay City Rollers and Harmonic Overdrive
He recorded the commentary for all 15 episodes of the award winning series The Story Of Film, an Odyssey which won The Stanley Kubrick Award for best documentary in 2012. He recorded The Spirit Of The Glen trilogy for Universal Records and Decca Records. The album Journey achieved a Classical Brit award for best album in 2009 and reached no1 in the Classical Charts in 2009. The Eyes Of Orson Welles won 2nd prize for Best Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018. Iain recorded the commentary of Director Mark Cousins. The Ice Stupas Of Ladakh won best Documentary prize for New York Film Festival in 2017. Iain recorded the commentary of presenter Russell Beard for Al-Jazeera TV

With his wife Kirsty McKinna they have released two albums of their original music under the name Harmonic Overdrive and reached no1 in the Itunes New Age chart in 2018 with the album of the same name. The second album Along The Timeline features songs they have recorded over 35 years together
