When we last heard of the Broadway revival of the Pulitzer prize winning “Glengarry Glen Ross,” it was reported that Al Pacino would be joining the cast as the sadsack and desperate Shelley “The Machine” Levene, played by Jack Lemmon in James Foley’s 1992 film adaptation, instead of the role that nabbed him an Oscar and Golden Globe nod. And now, The New York Times is reporting that the role of the voluble Ricky Roma will go to the underrated Bobby Cannavale.
Cannavale, who fans will recognize from the Thomas McCarthy films “The Station Agent” and “Win Win,” is no stranger to the stage as he has a pair of Tony nominations, including one for his performance in the recent run of “The Motherfucker With The Hat,” which also starred Chris Rock in his broadway debut.

As You Like It is a crowd-pleaser by charter. (It's right there in the title.) And director Daniel Sullivan, after two summers of moodier outings in the Park (The Merchant of Venice, All's Well That Ends Well), has taken that brief very seriously indeed: There's nothing here but pleasure and pleasantry, making it a fine but minor dish on his long table of Delacorte delicacies. Working off a faintly cartoonish "Frontierland!" theme — rifles, slouch hats, and the sort of oily buckskins and asphyxiating corsetry that slow-cook actors right before your eyes — Sullivan has delivered a consistently winning, persistently inconsequential production of Shakespeare's wooliest cross-dressing comedy, to the amiable autopilot beat of Steve Martin's toothsome bluegrass tunes. (Martin, it turns out, is quite the gifted melodist when he's working with the right lyricist.)Ayli is, of course, a glorious piece of literature ("All the world's a stage ... ," "Your...

New York – Can we just go ahead and sign up Daniel Sullivan for permanent Shakespeare in the Park duty? More than any of the repeat directors of this favorite summertime ritual of New York theater, Sullivan consistently gets it right. His Twelfth Night three years ago with Anne Hathaway was a ravishing evening, its tricky balance of playfulness, darkness and dizzying romance pulled off with impeccable finesse. The same goes for another popular comedy, As You Like It. Headlined by Lily Rabe, the expertly calibrated production serves as an exaltation of love and community that erases the divisions of

New York -- Bobby Cannavale is doing double duty on Broadway this season, signing up to star opposite Al Pacino in the fall in a revival of David Mamet's 1984 Pulitzer Prize winning drama about a ruthless bunch of real estate sharks, Glengarry Glen Ross. The play begins previews Oct. 16 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, with official opening set for Nov. 11. Directing the production is Daniel Sullivan, who last steered Pacino to a Tony Award nomination two seasons ago in The Merchant of Venice. Producers said Thursday that the Oscar winner will play the role of Shelly Levene in a revival the marks the 30th anniversary of David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning play about the backbiting world of salesmen.
Pacino, who played the role of Ricky Roma in a 1992 film version of the same play, was last on Broadway as Shylock in "The Merchant of Venice," earning a Tony nomination.

Actor is reportedly on board to play the struggling salesman Shelley Levene in David Mamet's Pulitzer prize-winning play
With Broadway productions, as with real estate sales, it's all about your leads, and, in theatre terms at least, they don't come much bigger than Al Pacino, who is reportedly set to star in David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross for the second time in his career.
According to the New York Times, the actor is on board to play the struggling salesman Shelley Levene in Mamet's 1982 play, which was first seen at the National Theatre before winning a Pulitzer prize the following year. Levene, a former company star, has fallen on hard times and struggles to make a sale, a fact he blames on the poor tip-offs he's being provided.

Of David Mamet's many accomplishments for the stage, the Pulitizer prize winning "Glengarry Glen Ross" may still be his finest moment. And at least for cinema fans, it's the most memorable. With a script from Mamet, James Foley directed the searing 1992 movie that brought together the unforgettable cast of Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin, Alan Arkin and Jonathan Pryce to immortalize the work into one of the most quoted movies in recent memory, and also one that is said to be used by lots of actors for audition purposes. Certainly, there are some choice monologues to choose from. But if you're ever wanted to see it performed on stage, you'll get another shot.
The New York Times reports that "Glengarry Glen Ross" is poised for a Broadway revival for the 2012-2013 season, with Al Pacino set to return, but not as the voluble Ricky Roma.

New York – Equipped with arrogance, fearsome intellect, vitriol and the punctilious armor of a man forced to live in denial, John Lithgow fully inhabits influential journalist Joseph Alsop in The Columnist. Director Daniel Sullivan brings his customary clarity and focus to a series of pithy scenes that place Alsop near the center of some important chapters in 20th century American political life. But while this is a potentially fascinating character study with no shortage of meaty material, playwright David Auburn hasn’t managed to shape it into a drama with a discernible through-line. That’s not to say these eventful

From his sharp wit, profound devotion to language and characters which resound with contemporary audiences, Shakespeare's legacy is felt from the high school classroom to the nerdy fantasies of true love. After a busy life of 38 plays and 154 sonnets, the Bard has made an indelible mark on our minds and hearts.

The Public Theater's 50th Anniversary of Shakespeare in the Park will feature "As You Like It," with music composed by none other than comedic genius Steve Martin.
Though he won a Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album in 2009 and was named the International Bluegrass Music Association's Entertainer of the Year in 2011, Martin is still better known for his work on and behind the silver screen. This time around, he's bringing his bluegrass talent to the stage, composing an original score for "As You Like It" that'll be played by a live band during the performance. This Southern-bred music won't be out of place in Shakespeare, though. Director Daniel Sullivan is setting the play in the rural American South in 1840.
The play will star Lily Rabe, Macintyre Dixon, Renee Elise Goldsberry and Omar Metwally and run in conjunction with the theater's musical "Into the Woods."
