American Horror Stories, a streaming series spin-off from FX’s long-running horror anthology series American Horror Story, began with a seven episode first season in 2021, and an eight episode second season followed in 2022. For the upcoming third season, the episode count has been shortened to just four – and all four episodes of American Horror Stories season 3 are set to drop on the Hulu streaming service on October 26th! With that date just three weeks away, a teaser trailer has arrived online to give a quick preview of the Halloween (or “Huluween”) event. You can watch it in the embed above.

Television series’ depictions of single parents isn’t all that different from what viewers imagine, or have experienced, it to be. Struggling adults attempting to juggle a stable career while doubling as the book report editor, dinner maker and support system that their kids need isn’t exactly new. But the twist now is that scripted programming is putting the spotlight on single dads.
Comedies ranging from NBC’s “Mr. Mayor” and “Kenan,” to CBS’ “United States of Al” and “B Positive,” to Netflix’s “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!” have lead characters who are single dads — albeit ones who maybe get by thanks to their entourages of quirky friends, relatives or coworkers.
“I personally like shows, even in comedies, that still feel like they’re about something,” says “Kenan” co-creator Jackie Clarke, who, like the daughters of lead Kenan Thompson’s similarly-named character on her show, spent part of her...

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings assures people that the streaming platform is not cracking down on password sharing.
“Netflix wants you to relax: It’s not preparing a widescale crackdown on password sharing. Fears of crackdown came up last month when at least a few users encountered a new security measure that can block access to a Netflix account if you don’t live in the same household as the actual account holder.”

Netflix’s new sitcom “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me” stars Jamie Foxx in a story that’s loosely inspired by his relationship with his real-life daughter Corinne Foxx during her teenage years. And while the 27-year-old actress isn’t the one going toe to toe with her dad on screen, she is the one calling many of the shots behind the camera as a writer and executive producer on the comedy.
“I’ve been working with my dad for a while now, we obviously did ‘Beat Shazam’ together and we work on a lot of creative projects together. But this was definitely a different role for me because I wasn’t on the other side of the camera with him. I was behind the camera and actually kind of became his boss,” Corinne Foxx told TheWrap. “I am an EP on the show and I also wrote a few of the episodes.

The new Netflix comedy, starring and executive produced by TV veteran Jamie Foxx, follows single Atlanta entrepreneur Brian (Foxx) who suddenly has to father his teenage daughter Sasha (Kyla-Drew) after her mother’s untimely death, much to their mutual wariness. Brian’s eagerness embarrasses Sasha, Sasha’s stubbornness frustrates Brian; rinse, wash, repeat. Despite some strategic TikTok references and every episode title taking the form of a hashtag, there’s not much about “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!” that anchors it to 2021 beyond the fact that it is executive produced by Foxx and his real-life daughter, Corinne Foxx.
In the long tradition of sitcoms about chaotic people randomly inheriting children, Brian’s not totally alone. His independent sister Chelsea (Porscha Coleman) plays the crucial role of Sasha’s fun and worldly aunt, while his wacky father (Foxx’s former “In Living Color” co-star David Alan Grier) keeps things weird through his...

Netflix has ordered a comedy series starring Jamie Foxx titled “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me,” Variety has learned.
The multi-camera series is inspired by Foxx’s relationship with his daughter, Corinne Foxx. The series will also star David Alan Grier, Kyla-Drew, Porscha Coleman, and Jonathan Kite. Heather Hemmens and Valente Rodriguez will appear in recurring roles.
Bentley Kyle Evans serves as showrunner and executive producer. Foxx will executive produce in addition to starring, with Corinne and Alex Avant producing. Ken Whittingham will direct all episodes.
This is not the first time Foxx and his daughter have collaborated on a TV project. She currently appears with her father on the Fox competition series “Beat Shazam,” which Foxx hosts and on which Corinne serves as DJ.
The show marks a return of sorts for Foxx, who got his start in television on multi-cam comedies like “Roc” and “In Living Color.” He also previously...

Chicago – What would you do if your child was in jeopardy? We all love to answer quickly and instinctually that we would do absolutely anything but the fact is that we’re incredibly lucky to never be put in that situation. Would you torture someone else? What if you weren’t sure they were responsible?
“Prisoners” is a film about a man who believes the only way back to safety and light is through pain and darkness. It’s a harrowing, excellent piece of work, narratively inconsistent in the final act but a film for which all flaws are easily overlooked by incredible technical accomplishments and an ensemble of performers doing close to the best work of their careers.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
Remarkably so given its 150-minute-plus running time, “Prisoners” wastes absolutely no time on set-up. There’s one piece of overture to this dark symphony, a scene of Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman...

"Prisoners" is a mystery told with such skill that just when you think you've figured it out, it finds new blind alleys for us to visit.
Well-cast and wonderfully acted, it's a child kidnapping thriller with sorrow, intrigue, psychology and just enough urgency to suck us in. Then it almost outsmarts itself with a draggy, "let's explain it all" third act that undercuts the big theme it wants us to ponder.
The grey skies of a Pennsylvania winter set the tone. The Dovers and the Birches are friends and neighbors. Remodeling contractor Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman) is man's man, something of a survivalist, teaching his son Ralph to hunt and "be ready" in case things get hairy and society starts to break down. With his wife, Grace (Maria Bello), he's raising a teen (Dylan Minnette) and a tyke, Anna (Erin Gerasimovich), in their middle-class subdivison.
